Gong Yuanzheng carried Gong Ruanruan to the Zhiren Hall, where they happened to meet the Yu Gong brothers who had come with him. "Young Master" Gong Yuanzheng bowed to Gong Huanyu.
Despite his deep reluctance, Gong Yuanzheng knew he was a well-mannered child and absolutely could not do anything impolite. He absolutely could not be like that unruly Gong Ziyu.
Gong Ziyu pointed to herself, looking bewildered: What did I do again?
Gong Huanyu nodded and led Gong Ziyu inside.
The three men, known as "Zhi Ren," bowed to Gong Hongyu, who was seated on a high chair.
“I heard from them that the assassin’s identity was exposed last night,” Gong Hongyu said, looking at Gong Ziyu.
"My brother and I... the young master and I originally planned to use the secret passage's mechanism to lure out the assassins, but unexpectedly..." Gong Ziyu was interrupted by Gong Hongyu before he could finish speaking.
He looked sternly at the pathetic Gong Ziyu on the ground, coldly uttering the most hurtful yet truthful words, "I never thought you'd learn to lie, Young Master. Is anyone as stupid as you? You think you're so clever, trying to drag the Young Master down with you."
From the moment I said I wanted to kill the bride, it was all part of a scheme; Huanyu and I had already planned it all along.
Gong Ziyu looked at his brother standing in front of him in astonishment when he heard what his father said. He never expected that his brother, who always told him everything, would lie to him with their father. His face was filled with disbelief.
[As expected of Gong Ziyu's father, his words are always hurtful... and accurate.]
"So, you all knew it was a setup, but you didn't tell me, leaving me to foolishly try to be a hero."
[A hero? What hero? Wu Feng, the brave hero within the evil palace gates? How could Gong Ziyu even think of that? I really don't understand.]
'I really don't understand'
Gong Yuanzheng and Gong Ruanruan stayed to the side, watching quietly. Actually, it wasn't entirely Gong Ziyu's fault; after all, he was acting from the perspective of the brides' lives, while they were acting from the perspective of the Gong family's interests. Someone like Gong Hongyu, who constantly belittled his own son...
If it weren't for the fact that she was at the palace gates, where she was supported by superiors and cared for by inferiors, Gong Ziyu might have run away long ago.
Gong Hongyu, with a face that looked like someone owed him eight million, said, "Let me tell you this in advance: with your personality, what can you possibly hide? You're more likely to cause trouble than get anything done."
"You really don't trust me at all!" Gong Ziyu's eyes were red, and he was very stubborn. Even if he knew that he was wrong, was there no fault on his part?
Gong Hongyu suddenly stood up, intending to go downstairs, but stopped at the last moment. He forcefully flicked his sleeves, his expression fierce, and glared angrily at Gong Ziyu, scolding, "Look at yourself! You do nothing but run to Wan Hua Lou all day long. From the inside out, from beginning to end, what part of you do I trust?"
Hearing these hurtful words coming from her own father, Gong Ziyu forced herself not to cry, her hands tightly gripping the medicine bowl.
This action did seem to soften Gong Hongyu's eyes slightly, but Gong Ziyu was just as stubborn as him. Why should he, as a father, bow down and admit his mistakes to his son? Gong Hongyu, who felt he had done nothing wrong, looked at the medicine bowl in his hand and asked, "What are you holding in your hand?"
Gong Ziyu controlled his emotions and looked to the other side, saying, "Today I discovered that there is a problem with the Angelica and Golden Herb Tea sent to the female guests' courtyard. I suspect that Gong Yuanzheng changed the formula without authorization and used the bride as a test subject."
After speaking, Gong Ziyu looked at Gong Yuanzheng, who had turned to face him.
Upon hearing his name, Gong Yuanzheng frowned slightly, but quickly regained his composure. He gently patted Gong Ruanruan in his arms, then slowly turned around, his gaze fixed on her. "I did indeed change the formula."
Gong Yuanzheng's voice was deep and firm, as if this was a decision he had already made. After saying this, he slightly raised the corners of his mouth, revealing a faint smile.
