He was about to open the gift from the witch when he suddenly heard that familiar, emotionless notification sound:
"Ding, an item around the host has been randomly enhanced. Please select the direction of enhancement."
"Um?"
Yuzuru blinked and paused.
"System, today is my birthday, where's my birthday present?"
He grumbled as he immersed his consciousness into the system interface.
[Random Item: A vintage dial telephone from the corner of the host's living room]
Enhancement Direction 1: "Cognitive Hazard Phone (Safe Class)" from the SCP Foundation world.
Dial any number; there's a very high probability you'll be connected to an unknown entity that "seems normal and can answer most of your current questions." The information provided by this entity is a mixture of truth and falsehood, and a call exceeding three minutes may cause slight cognitive biases and logical confusion.
(Knowledge comes at a price, and chaos is part of the fun.)
This option consumes 1 point of spiritual energy.
"SCP? Or cognitive hazard?"
Yu Shengnan raised an eyebrow. "This is my birthday present? System, are you sure you're not up to something? Are you planning to send me straight to a mental hospital for further studies right after my birthday?"
Enhancement Direction Two: "Time-Space Communication Device" from a certain interstellar company.
It allows you to contact a random node on the past or future timeline. You might receive a tearful phone call from your childhood self, or you might be angrily scolded by your future self: "Stop eyeing my savings for a wife!"
(Time Ripple Warning! Do not reveal lottery numbers to your past self. Violators will face hefty fines from the Time Management Bureau. — Star Sea Group Limited)
This option consumes 5 points of spiritual energy.
"Lottery..."
Yuzuru Hanyu has a "MMP" that he doesn't know whether he should say or not.
Aside from lucky people like Xiaolan who have been kissed by Lady Luck, even if he had the ability to foresee the future, he wouldn't dare to be 100% sure he would win the lottery.
Is that something an ordinary person could win?
That's a statistical miracle!
Enhancement Direction 3: An "enhanced version of the 'what if' telephone booth" invented in the 22nd century.
Pick up the receiver and say "If..." to create a world that meets the stated conditions (not a parallel world, but directly overriding the current reality). Once the wish is granted, the phone booth will ring, and the world line will shift at that moment. (Each use will consume a large amount of spiritual energy; please make wishes carefully to avoid creating cosmic bugs.)
(Happy Birthday, Doraemon Department Store!)
This option consumes 10 points of spiritual energy.
"System, enhance the third option."
"Ding, enhancement successful."
Selected instantly, without any hesitation.
Upon seeing the third option, Yuzuru's pupils contracted slightly, and his breath almost stopped for a moment.
[Enhanced Version of the Phone Booth]!
It can directly create worlds that meet the assumed conditions and change the world line!
This was the tool he had been waiting for for so long, one that truly touched upon the level of causality. Compared to the previous two options, which were either dangerous or too random, this was undoubtedly the birthday gift that the system had given him, the one that best suited his wishes and was most worthy of his joy today!
He glanced at the simple instruction manual that appeared in his mind.
Using it once consumed a terrifying amount of spiritual energy, almost emptying his entire fortune.
But compared to the almost "laws will come" effect it can bring, this cost is simply too good to be true.
This is a magical artifact that can alter reality!
In the distance, the gentle and attentive Akemi seemed to notice his brief moment of distraction and the subtle change in his breathing. She walked over with a glass of juice and asked with concern:
"Young Master Yuzuru, what's wrong? Are you tired?"
Yuzuru quickly composed himself, turned back to her with a gentle smile, and said, "It's nothing, I just suddenly remembered something. You guys go ahead and have fun, I'll be right there."
The little maid, unsuspecting, nodded obediently.
Watching Akemi leave, Yuzuru took a deep breath and walked towards the relatively quiet front yard.
Throughout the journey, he remained remarkably calm.
In the front yard, the moonlight poured down like quicksilver.
Next to the whimsical little house in Popona, a retro-styled, red and white telephone booth has indeed appeared out of nowhere.
It stands there quietly, its interior radiating a soft and mysterious light, seemingly out of place yet also as if it were meant to be there.
Yuzuru walked to the phone booth, opened the door, and went inside. In the small space, only the old-fashioned dial phone emitted a faint light.
He reached out and grasped the cold receiver.
Just as he was about to bring the receiver close to his ear and utter the long-conceived "what if," his movement suddenly stopped.
He remained in the position of holding the receiver, but his gaze seemed to pierce through the red glass of the phone booth, looking towards some void, or more accurately, towards the vast dark dimension within his own body.
A meaningful smile curved his lips as he spoke in a clear and calm voice:
"Queen Keisha, after watching this show for so long... from the activation of the angel genes to this grand spectacle... are you satisfied with me, this 'wild' and unruly angel?"
After the words were spoken, the phone booth fell into a deathly silence.
Only the faint busy tone indicating that the call had been connected could be heard regularly from the receiver.
One second, two seconds...
It felt like an eternity had passed.
The sounds of laughter and joy coming from the backyard now seemed distant and indistinct.
After a long while, a clear, majestic, and sacred female voice, yet containing a hint of barely perceptible languor and a light laugh, resounded directly in the depths of his consciousness, or rather, in the resonance of his angelic genes:
