At Ekoda High School, as the school bell rang crisply, students poured out of the school like a tidal wave.
As Nakamori Aoko walked out of the school gate carrying her schoolbag, she muttered to herself, "I wonder if Dad is back yet?"
"What? Officer Nakamori didn't go home last night?"
With his hands behind his head, Kaito, following behind, wore a smug look on his face upon hearing this.
It seems that the notice he sent yesterday has worked. Thinking of this, Kaito couldn't help but feel a small sense of accomplishment.
"It's all because of that Phantom Thief Kid. He said he was going to steal something again, and now my dad doesn't even have time to come home and get a proper night's sleep!"
Aoko seemed a little sullen and complained to Kaito, who was walking beside her.
However, Kaito was currently immersed in the thrill of having outmaneuvered the police again and was completely unaware of Aoko's low spirits. He casually remarked, "Then let's just give up and go to sleep. Anyway, that incompetent officer has no chance of catching Kaito Kid!"
Kaito's tone was full of sarcasm, but he didn't notice that the girl next to him's face turned ugly.
"Who are you calling an incompetent police officer?!"
Aoko stopped and glared angrily at Kaito. She hated it most when people spoke ill of her father.
"Of course it's Inspector Nakamori, the one who can never catch Kaito Kid! He's like a little shadow, always following me around..." Kaito rambled on, completely unaware of the danger that was about to strike.
When he felt a chill down his back and realized something was wrong, he stiffened his neck and turned around to look.
In that instant, a schoolbag flew towards his face like a cannonball.
"Bang!"
With a loud bang, Kaito felt everything go black, saw stars, and fell sprawled on the ground.
The students passing by were taken aback at first, then quickly took out their phones and started snapping photos.
"Wow! The embarrassing past of the popular Kuroba-kun!"
"Quickly take a picture and post it on WeChat Moments!"
"Quickly take pictures, quickly take pictures, first come, first served."
"Quick, quick, I need to send this to my sisters."
"Hehehe, this will be the way to threaten Kuroba from now on."
When Kaito finally recovered a little from his dizziness, he saw Aoko walking over angrily, her eyes wide open as if she could breathe fire.
"What kind of Phantom Thief Kid is he! So what if he's audacious! He'll be caught by my dad sooner or later!" Aoko shouted at Kaito on the ground.
"That might be something that happens in my lifetime."
Kaito, who had just sat up rubbing his head, subconsciously made another sarcastic remark, his face still bearing that nonchalant expression.
No sooner had he finished speaking than a foot flew into his face again.
"Ouch!" Kaito cried out in pain and collapsed heavily to the ground again.
"Hmph!" Aoko sneered as she looked at Kaito, who had fallen back down. "What do you mean by 'in my lifetime'? I believe my dad will catch that lawless thief this time!"
After saying that, she glared at him fiercely, then turned and walked home.
Kaito was left lying on the ground alone, surrounded by his classmates pointing and snapping photos.
"What? I'm telling the truth! That incompetent officer thinks he can catch me? That's impossible!"
Listening to the whispers around him, Kaito looked up at the sky and mentally groaned, feeling utterly hopeless.
Just as he was complaining, a shadow fell over him.
"Yo, isn't this our Lord Kid?" Izumi Akako's unique voice rang out, tinged with a hint of mockery, as she looked down at Kaito. "What's gotten into you, looking so disheveled?"
"Hongzi-kun?"
Kaito recognized who it was, a hint of surprise flashing across his face. He quickly flipped himself up from the ground and said, "None of your business!"
Koizumi Akako chuckled gently, "Don't be so fierce, I've brought you a new divination."
"A new divination?" Kaito's eyes twitched involuntarily upon hearing this.
Last time, this mysterious classmate of mine said that if I went to the party, I would have a terrible ending.
As it turned out, her bad luck came true. She encountered a man named Yuzuru Nanami and was almost mistaken for a murderer, becoming a wanted criminal nationwide.
And she somehow found out her identity as Phantom Thief Kid.
Thinking of this, Kaito couldn't help but shudder and said irritably, "Your fortune telling has never been reliable, I don't believe it!"
"Believe it or not, it's up to you," Koizumi Akako shrugged casually. "But I still have to warn you, if you continue with this plan, the consequences could be..."
She paused for a moment, her ruby-like eyes fixed on Kaito.
"What can you do?" Kaito asked anxiously.
Although he said he didn't believe it, deep down he was still a little curious.
After all, people always have some worries and expectations about the unknown.
Moreover, it wouldn't hurt to listen; you might even get some useful information from it.
"The consequence could be the loss of a loved one!" Koizumi Akako spoke slowly, her voice seemingly possessing a strange magic, each word clearly reaching Kaito's ears.
As he spoke, he gave a meaningful smile, "Oh, it might also mean having another relative."
"What nonsense are you talking about! This kind of joke isn't funny!"
Kaito rolled his eyes, thinking to himself, "What nonsense about having one more or one less relative? I shouldn't have wasted my time with her."
Koizumi Akako said nonchalantly, "I'm not joking. Believe it or not."
"Sister, how many times have I told you? This is the 21st century! Let's talk about science and stop with your mystical stuff!"
Kaito curled his lip in disdain. In his opinion, so-called fortune-telling was just a trick to fool children.
He firmly believed that science was the correct way to explain the world, and he completely disregarded Koizumi Akako's mysterious prophecies.
"science?"
Koizumi Akako chuckled softly, a hint of mockery in her smile. Her fiery red hair seemed to come alive, moving on its own even without wind.
The vibrant red color shone brightly in the sunlight, as if telling a story of her mystery and extraordinary nature.
The next moment, Kaito, who was standing still, was pushed away by an invisible force, to the astonishment of the passersby.
He felt a powerful force strike him, and his body flew backward involuntarily, finally crashing heavily into the wall beside him, unable to move.
"What... what's going on?" Kaito was full of surprise, trying to break free but finding that he couldn't muster any strength at all.
Koizumi Akako slowly approached, a hint of mystery in her eyes. "Kuroba-kun, you're too naive. Can science explain everything? There are too many mysterious areas in this world that science cannot reach."
