At the dinner table.
Ai took a small sip of her milk and suddenly said, "I'm going out today."
"Oh? Where do you want to go for fun?"
"Yeah, Ayumi and the others invited me to go to Beika Department Store."
Hearing her sister's words, Mingmei was even happier than if she had won the lottery. She clasped her hands together, her face beaming with the contentment of a loving mother.
"Really? That's great! Ai should have gone out more with her friends, gone shopping, and bought some cute little things. That's what a little girl should do."
She was genuinely happy for her sister.
The former Shiho was either living in fear under the shadow of the organization, or after becoming Ai Haibara, she spent all her time in the laboratory dissecting all sorts of strange things, lacking the liveliness of an ordinary girl.
Seeing her now actively going out with friends, Mingmei was so relieved she almost cried, feeling like a mother finally seeing her autistic daughter step out of the house.
This can be seen as making up for the pain of my younger sister not having a childhood.
"I just happened to have some free time, and they were too noisy, so I reluctantly agreed to let them be quieter," Ai added awkwardly, maintaining her aloof persona.
Yu Sheng Nan smiled and ruffled her hair: "Have fun. If you see something you like, just swipe that card. Consider it a gift from your brother."
"Who needs you to deliver it..."
Ai muttered softly, but didn't slap his hand away.
She didn't really want to go out, after all, she's a research-oriented homebody and thinks shopping is a waste of life, but Ayumi kept pestering her with cuteness and charm yesterday, so she reluctantly agreed in the end.
Even a fake loli is powerless against a real loli.
Who can resist a truly adorable and cute little girl blinking her big eyes and acting cute in front of you?
...
I've had breakfast.
From afar, Genta's distinctive loud voice rang out from outside the villa: "Haibara-kun—! Are you ready—! We're here—!"
Then came Mitsuhiko's voice: "Genta, keep your voice down, that's very rude."
And then there's Ayumi's cheerful urging: "Ai, come out quickly!"
Upon hearing her friends' voices, Ai immediately jumped off her chair and quickly packed her small backpack.
"I'm leaving."
She left those words and walked toward the door.
As Mingmei watched her sister's retreating figure, a motherly smile of contentment spread across her face.
That's more like a little girl!
Having friends and going out with them is so great!
Yuzuru stroked his chin, watching Ai's figure disappear through the doorway, lost in thought.
Beika Department Store...
He remembered that something unusual, usually accompanied by screams and police sirens, seemed to happen there often... under the sway of the laws of science.
I hope they had a good time today.
Yeah, probably... probably.
...
Metropolitan Police Department, First Investigation Division Office.
"Miwako? Miwako! Hey! Snap out of it!"
In the office, Yumi Miyamoto reached out and waved her hand in front of Miwako Sato's eyes, almost touching her face, before finally raising her voice to pull her back from her reverie.
"Huh?! Yumi, what's wrong?" Sato Miwako suddenly snapped out of her daze, looking at her overly energetic friend with a somewhat blank expression.
"You're asking me what's wrong?"
Yumi, hands on her hips, leaned closer to her, her face a Sherlock Holmes-like expression of discovery. "What were you thinking about just now? Your mind was completely elsewhere! I called you several times and you didn't respond. You didn't even bother to organize your favorite case reports? Could it be... you were thinking about some man? Come on! Tell me the truth!"
A hint of unease flashed across Sato Miwako's face, and she immediately denied it: "What nonsense are you talking about! I'm just... a little tired, I probably didn't sleep well last night, I'm going out for some fresh air."
As she spoke, she picked up her coat and handbag from the back of the chair and prepared to get up.
"Huh?"
Yumi paused for a moment, glancing at the mountain of documents on her desk that was only half-organized. "Didn't you say you had to finish compiling the reports on these tricky cases today? We can't count on Takagi, so we're counting on you. Are you just going to leave already?"
Sato Miwako didn't stop walking. As she walked out, she waved her hand without turning her head and said, "Those aren't urgent. I... I suddenly remembered that there's a case that I need to go to the scene to confirm the details again."
Her tone carried a hint of haste and...preoccupation.
Miyamoto Yumi blinked as she watched Sato's slightly hurried departure, feeling that Sato was acting a bit strange today.
Just as Sato Miwako was about to walk out of the office door, Yumi suddenly remembered something and loudly reminded her, "Hey! Miwako! Don't forget to go to karaoke tonight! We agreed!"
Miwako Sato stopped in her tracks.
She turned around, her face showing genuine confusion: "Karaoke? Tonight? Did we make plans for tonight?"
"yes!"
Yumi's eyes widened, a "I knew it" expression on her face. "Didn't I text you yesterday? 9 pm, same place, the private room is all booked! You didn't forget again, did you?!"
Sato Miwako suddenly realized what was happening and quickly pulled her phone out of her pocket, her fingers flying across the screen as she searched.
A few seconds later, she looked apologetic, put her hands together, and sincerely apologized: "Ah... I'm so sorry, Yumi, I really didn't see it... I might... I might have accidentally cleaned it up..."
Upon hearing this, Miyamoto Yumi sighed dramatically, rubbing her forehead, and said, "I knew it! Miwako, when are you going to get rid of this habit of deleting text messages immediately after reading them? Important date information is so easy to delete along with them!"
