The atmosphere at the Metropolitan Police Department was so heavy it could be squeezed out of you.
Another fax, carrying the mockery of death and the distinctive burnt smell of a printer, was delivered to Inspector Megure's desk by a trembling clerk.
The content is exactly the same as before, filled with crazy metaphors of baseball terminology, arrogantly foreshadowing the mystery of when and where the next "explosive feast" will take place.
"You bastard!"
Megure slammed his fist on the table, his chubby body trembling with rage. "They have absolutely no respect for us police! What do they take the 12 million people of Tokyo for?!"
The entire First Investigative Division, and even the entire Metropolitan Police Department, were in an uproar.
This is no ordinary crime; it is a blatant provocation against the entire police force and the entire city.
It's like rubbing the policeman's face on the ground and stomping on it!
Police from all departments were in a frenzy, and all available officers were dispatched to various corners of Mikasa City, frantically searching for any possible hiding places for bombs, based on the experts' interpretation of the code.
Even the trash cans were turned upside down.
Traffic officers Yumi Miyamoto and Naeko Miike also drove patrol cars, weaving through traffic, their sharp eyes scanning every parked vehicle, trying to find any suspicious signs.
"Ugh! We were supposed to go to karaoke tonight! Now it's all ruined!" Yumi slammed her fist on the steering wheel in frustration. "That damn bomber, I hope I catch you!"
Naeko Miike, in the passenger seat, nervously stared out the window, whispering a prayer: "I hope nothing else happens..."
...
Meanwhile, a red Mazda RX-7, like an angry red comet, sped through the streets of Beika Town.
In the driver's seat, Miwako Sato gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles white, her eyes sharp as knives, burning with raging anger and unprecedented determination.
The shadows of the past still linger.
But this time, she will not be defeated again.
She was determined to catch that bastard herself and escape the shadow that had haunted her for three years!
As she was intently recalling every detail from three years ago, frantically analyzing the perpetrator's possible behavioral patterns and pondering where he might have set up the "overtime" venue...
Two heads peeked out from the back row, quietly and silently.
"Officer Sato."
A gentle, boyish voice rang out, tinged with just the right amount of curiosity, "Can you tell us what exactly happened? What do you mean by 'extra game' and 'blood-stained bases'?"
The sudden sound startled Sato Miwako, who was completely focused on her work, and she almost turned the steering wheel all the way to drift off.
She looked up abruptly and met two pairs of eyes in the rearview mirror—one pair was Yuzuru's deep eyes with a questioning smile, and the other was Ai's signature ice-blue eyes, seemingly calm but conveying "I'm analyzing."
What are you doing here?!
Miwako Sato's brain went blank for a second.
Ai's lips twitched almost imperceptibly as she stated the facts in her distinctive, slightly cold voice:
"Is it possible, Officer Sato, that you were the one who, in a fit of emotion, said, 'I'll take you back first, it's too dangerous outside,' and then shoved us into your car without saying a word?"
Yuzuru shrugged in agreement, looking innocent: "Besides, you stepped on the gas and sped off as soon as you got in the car, and we barely had time to fasten our seatbelts."
Sato Miwako: "...uh..."
It seems...that's indeed the case?
The scene of the explosion was too chaotic. When she saw that Yuzuru and Ai were still nearby, she instinctively felt that she couldn't let the two children stay in a dangerous area. She completely forgot to think about how they got there and whether she was in a suitable condition to be given away...
A blush of embarrassment instantly appeared on the face of this dashing policewoman, and she unconsciously slowed down her car.
really.
When people get excited and their adrenaline surges, they are more likely to do things without thinking.
The police are no exception.
"Sorry, I forgot..."
She rubbed her temples in annoyance, trying to regain some of her mature police officer authority. "I'll take you back to a safe place right now. Mihana Park is too chaotic right now, it's not suitable..."
“Officer Sato, perhaps we can help,” Yuzuru spoke up again. “Many hands make light work.”
"no!"
Without a second thought, Miwako Sato refused outright, her tone serious, "The other party is an extremely dangerous and insane bomber! This is not a game! I cannot let you take such a risk!"
Looking at Yuzuru Nan's excessively handsome face through the rearview mirror, she subconsciously didn't want this boy who had just saved her and gave her a strange sense of security to be harmed in any way.
This protective instinct even transcends their duty to ordinary citizens.
However, upon hearing the word "danger," Hanyu Nanasu and Ai exchanged a glance, their faces simultaneously displaying subtle expressions.
Danger?
One is a deity who walks the earth and occasionally gets the urge to cause trouble.
The other is a former scientist from the organization who has just signed a contract, possesses Clow Cards, and can transform into a magical girl.
Who is in greater danger?
This is indeed a question worth pondering.
Yuzuru smiled, not at all frightened into getting out of the car. Instead, he comfortably leaned back in the leather seat and even adjusted his posture: "Officer Sato, you are mistaken. Fighting crime and maintaining peace is everyone's responsibility. Besides, we are not ordinary people."
