The Metropolitan Police Department's ace's landing maneuvers were far more professional and swift than the bomb maniac's.
Sato Miwako only crouched down briefly upon touching the ground to cushion the impact, and in less than a second, she regained her balance and chased after the alley like an arrow released from a bow.
That speed, that explosive power, that reckless momentum...
Hanyu Kusute, watching this scene from the overpass, sighed softly:
"She's practically a superhero."
He retracted his earlier statement that "the police are all useless."
At least this policewoman is definitely not one.
Megure also realized what was happening and yelled into the walkie-talkie, "Quick! Surround that area! We absolutely can't let this guy get away!"
A fierce chase through the alleyways ensued.
Meanwhile, Yuzuru walked leisurely down the overpass and strolled towards the alley.
It's time to bring this grand drama to a perfect close.
...
Deep in a dirty alley.
The sounds of hurried footsteps and heavy breathing echoed.
The once arrogant bomb maniac now ran like a stray dog, desperately trying to escape, but the figure behind him was like a death knell, drawing ever closer.
After a frantic run, he realized with despair that he had run into a dead end.
The three sides were surrounded by high walls, and the only exit was blocked by Sato Miwako, who had caught up with them.
"It's over...it's completely over..."
The bomb maniac leaned against the cold, damp wall, watching Sato Miwako approach step by step, his face filled with despair and extreme fear.
Especially when he saw Sato Miwako's bloodshot eyes, which seemed to be spitting fire, and the gun barrel that was steadily pointed at him without trembling, he clearly felt the chill of death.
This woman... she really will kill him!
"No...don't shoot! I surrender! I confess! I'll tell you everything! Don't kill me!" The bomb maniac frantically raised his hands, begging for mercy incoherently, tears and snot streaming down his face, completely devoid of his previous arrogance.
His eyes darted around frantically, searching for a glimmer of hope. Suddenly, as if grasping at a straw, he shouted:
“I…I have a mental illness! Yes! It’s schizophrenia! Those bombs! Those plans! They were all done by another ‘me’! Not me! It was that evil ‘me’! I am innocent! The law will protect me! You can’t kill a sick person!”
Hearing this clumsy and ridiculous sophistry, Miwako Sato felt an indescribable sense of sorrow and anger.
He is such a scumbag, a degenerate, a coward who doesn't even dare to take responsibility for his crimes!
They actually killed Matsuda, killed so many innocent people, shattered so many families, and brought panic to the entire city.
The anger in her eyes grew stronger, and tears welled up uncontrollably, mingling with sweat as they slid down her cheeks.
The fingers gripping the gun, knuckles white from the force, trembled slightly as he slowly pulled the trigger.
Reason told her she couldn't do it, but years of pent-up hatred, grief, and anger erupted like a volcano, threatening to engulf her.
She doesn't care about any damn laws anymore!
She just wanted that bastard to go to hell right now!
Pay with your lives for all the victims!
"Officer Sato! Stop! Don't shoot!"
Just then, Takagi Wataru rushed into the alley, panting. Seeing this scene, he was shocked and immediately shouted as he rushed over.
"Put the gun down, Officer Sato, calm down! We can't just kill criminals; we have to punish him according to the law!"
Takagi Wataru tried to dissuade him, his voice urgent.
Upon hearing this, Sato Miwako struggled violently, the muzzle of the gun swaying slightly, but she still did not lower it.
Seeing this, Takagi Wataru continued to earnestly persuade him: "Officer Sato! Have you forgotten? Didn't you always tell me that you dedicate yourself to the country and the people out of a sense of honor and mission? You would never bend the law for personal gain, and under any circumstances, you would abide by the law, respect basic human rights, and uphold the duties of a police officer! Didn't you teach me all of this? Have you forgotten it all?!"
Sato Miwako's body was shaken.
Of course she hadn't forgotten.
Those vows and those beliefs were her original intention in wearing this police uniform.
But... how could she allow such a cruel, cunning, and potentially exploitative psychopath to live on? She simply couldn't accept it!
You should know...
In this country, the death penalty is extremely difficult to carry out, with various appeals and delays, and in the end, it is very likely to be dropped.
Did those lives lost go to waste?
Where is justice?!
Upon hearing Takagi Wataru's words, the bomb maniac seemed to hear heavenly music, nodding vigorously in agreement, even revealing a hint of smug relief on his face.
"Yes, yes, yes! This officer is absolutely right! You can't kill me, you have to obey the law! I'm a patient, I need treatment and psychological counseling, not bullets! The law will give me justice!"
His ugly face further aggravated Sato Miwako's nerves.
Just then, a calm voice rang out at the alley entrance:
"Officer Takagi is absolutely right; every word he said makes perfect sense."
Yuzuru walked in slowly, his face showing deep approval, like a fair referee.
When Takagi Wataru saw Hanyu Kusunoki, he was overjoyed, as if he had seen a savior: "Hanyu-kun! You've come at the right time! Quickly, persuade Officer Sato! She can't do this!"
He thought Yuzuru Hanyu had come to help him stabilize the situation.
Yuzuru smiled slightly at him, then turned his gaze to Sato Miwako, who was tense all over and on the verge of collapse.
