After Xuanyuan Zhan boarded the carriage, the family headed to Jing'an Temple.
Inside the carriage, Xuan Yuanzhan stared blankly at Su Xuening's perfect profile, his mind drifting back to the first time he saw her in the palace as a child. He was as disheveled as she was then, and she was just as beautiful.
That day was that person's birthday. Just because that person praised him a little more, his three sons, Xuanyuan Duo, Xuanyuan Zhi, and Xuanyuan Yu, teamed up to beat him up. He was only eight years old that year. Except for Xuanyuan Yu, who was the same age as him, the other two were several years older than him. Even though he had practiced martial arts since he was a child, he was no match for their strength and was pinned to the ground and beaten!
He still remembers how disheveled he looked when she appeared, and he also remembers how stunning the little girl looked when she entered his eyes.
Wearing a bright red dress and with her hair in two little buns, she was chubby and adorable, like a little fairy fallen from heaven. She must have been five years old that year. Whether she was lost or frightened by their scene, tears streamed down her face, yet she was so endearing.
When Xuanyuan Yu saw that she was crying, he took her away, thus avoiding a beating later. He still remembered how proud Xuanyuan Yu was when he led her away, as if he possessed the most precious treasure in the world!
How the tables have turned! This treasure is now his!
Su Xuening felt Xuan Yuanzhan's gaze and turned to look at him with a puzzled expression.
Upon seeing the scar on the other half of Su Xuening's face, Xuan Yuanzhan subconsciously frowned.
Although the scar did not obscure her stunning beauty, it was certainly an eyesore.
"How did you get this injury? You have it on your arm too." This was a question that Xuan Yuanzhan had always wanted to ask.
What happened to such a beautiful face?
Su Xuening hadn't expected him to care about her face, and explained casually, "It was burned by fire."
Seeing that she didn't want to elaborate, Xuan Yuanzhan wisely refrained from asking any further questions.
Although they were husband and wife, they weren't really close, and neither of them were talkative, so the conversation quickly fell into an awkward silence.
Fortunately, the two of them were used to the quiet and found it quite pleasant.
Jing'an Temple is not far from Kyoto City; it takes a little over an hour by carriage. It is considered one of the temples relatively close to Kyoto. As it is also a nunnery, it attracts many female visitors, especially those of high status.
Jing'an Temple is located halfway up the mountain. When the carriage arrived at the foot of the mountain, a nun was already waiting for us.
Granny Shang first helped Bai Shi down from the carriage, and Xuan Yuanzhan also helped Su Xuening down.
When the nun saw Bai, she quickly performed a Buddhist salute: "Amitabha, this humble nun greets the benefactor."
"Amitabha." Bai returned the greeting and then introduced Xuan Yuanzhan and Su Xuening: "Zhan'er, Ning'er, this is Abbess Mingjing."
When Su Xuening heard the name of Abbess Mingjing, she was a little surprised. Mingjing was the abbess of Jing'an Temple, but when she thought of the Empress Dowager's identity, Su Xuening understood.
"Master." The two of them bowed to Mingjing in Buddhist salutation.
"Please follow this humble nun into the temple, benefactors." Mingjing quickly returned the greeting and invited them up the mountain.
The group followed Mingjing into Jing'an Temple, where, under her arrangement, they fulfilled their vows.
"We really have to thank Abbess Mingjing this time. Our Zhan'er was able to wake up thanks to the Bodhisattva's blessing!" Madam Bai said with a smile to Mingjing.
Upon hearing Bai's words, Xuan Yuanzhan's eyes twitched.
Didn't they say before that his recovery was thanks to Su Xuening's marriage to bring him good luck? How did it become the Bodhisattva's doing?
Mingjing glanced at Xuanyuan Zhan and bowed to them in a Buddhist gesture: "Amitabha, benefactors are blessed by Heaven!"
Bai glanced at Granny Shang, who immediately handed a money pouch to the young servant beside her.
Lady Bai smiled and said, "This is money for incense oil; I'm just doing my part."
"Thank you, benefactor." Mingjing and several young monks bowed to Bai Shi in Buddhist salutation.
“It’s getting late, please stay for a vegetarian meal,” Mingjing said, looking at Bai Shi.
"Very well." Madam Bai did not refuse and stayed for a vegetarian meal with Xuan Yuanzhan and Su Xuening.
When they left, Mingjing still personally saw them off.
While Bai was talking to Mingjing, Su Xuening saw Su Yuxin, who seemed to have come specifically to find her.
As expected, we ran into each other. It seems there are some people and some things that you can't avoid no matter how hard you try.
Su Xuening said something to Bai Shi, and then took Bihe and Lülian over.
Xuanyuan Zhan also saw the nun and immediately guessed her identity.
Su Yuxin stared blankly as Su Xuening approached from afar. Seeing her glamorous and elegant attire, Su Yuxin was filled with envy and jealousy, especially when she saw Su Xuening's jet-black hair, which drove her to the brink of madness with jealousy.
When Su Xuening got closer, Su Yuxin saw the burns on her face and froze.
Su Xuening walked over, looked at Su Yuxin's nun attire, and said with a smile, "It seems that Third Sister has adapted to life here."
Seeing that she still had the nerve to say such things, Su Yuxin gritted her teeth angrily: "Isn't this all thanks to you?"
Su Xuening remained noncommittal: "Even in this sacred Buddhist site, the fierce aura of my third sister cannot be suppressed. She still needs to cultivate more!"
Su Yuxin was once again enraged by Su Xuening. Staring at the burns on her face, she mocked, "I never thought that even in this state, you could still marry the Holy King!"
Su Xuening used to be beautiful, and every man would fight to marry her. But now that her face is ruined like this, why is she still so lucky to become the Holy Princess?
Su Xuening raised an eyebrow and said, "I'm really sorry, and it's a marriage bestowed by the Emperor!"
Su Yuxin was instantly furious. She glared at Su Xuening's burned face and sneered, "What's so smug about? Your face is ruined like this, and you still can't beat Su Feiling and Su Muyao!"
