Chapter 100: Caught
“Bold!”
Lin Heng stepped forward in horror, and the guards behind him reacted very quickly, slashing at the black shadow fiercely.
The opponent seemed to have eyes, twisting his body to avoid the attack from behind, and at the same time kicking the side of the desk.
In a flash, the black shadow's fingers had touched the lock of the rosewood box.
"Oh no, get out of the way! There's a trap!" the guard shouted hurriedly.
The black shadow seemed to have anticipated this and quickly unlocked the secret lock and grabbed the wooden box.
"Put it down!"
Lin Heng's eyes were bloodshot and he drew his sword and stabbed at the black shadow.
A cold murderous intent flashed in Wen Ziyi's eyes. Knowing that she couldn't keep fighting for long, she turned around, rushed to the window, and jumped out.
"Stop her! Signal!"
Lin Heng shouted angrily, with endless panic in his heart.
The guards standing outside the door immediately took out their bamboo whistles and blew them with all their might. The sharp and piercing whistle sound pierced the night sky of Xiefang Garden.
Immediately afterwards, loud noises erupted from all over Xiefang Garden, flames shot up into the sky, thick smoke billowed, and endless chaos sounded in the front yard.
"The fire is happening!"
"There's an assassin! Protect the lord!"
"Don't panic! Don't be impulsive!"
Unexpectedly, the entire Xiefang Garden fell into chaos in an instant.
On top of the beams.
Wen Ziyi was startled by the sudden explosion behind her, and then she reacted and turned around to run. Almost a second later, countless arrows flew onto the roof behind her.
"It's up there, chase after it!"
Lin Heng rushed out of the study, flew onto the roof, and quickly chased after Wen Ziyi.
A fierce look flashed in Wen Ziyi's eyes. Just as she was about to turn around and fight back, a huge fishing net soaked in tung oil fell on her without warning.
“Sizzle!”
The barbs on the fishing net instantly tore her nightgown, leaving several bloody wounds on her arms and shoulders. She felt a burning pain and the rosewood box in her hand fell out.
"No!" Wen Ziyi was shocked and angry, and reached out to grab it desperately.
"Get it!"
A cold voice sounded in the darkness, filled with unhesitating decisiveness and without any mercy.
As the voice fell, several figures leaped out silently from the darkness and surrounded Wen Ziyi. Their movements were agile and ruthless, and they coordinated with each other tacitly.
Wen Ziyi reacted with horror, realizing that she was definitely being framed. The scene from three days ago flashed through her mind, and she instantly identified the real culprit behind the scenes.
It’s Jiang Qingning!
A series of heavy, orderly footsteps came closer and closer, and the light of the torches instantly illuminated the gate of Xiefang Garden.
"The Beijing Patrol Battalion has been ordered to investigate! Everyone, remain where you are!"
"Anyone who moves without permission will be killed without mercy!"
A loud roar, accompanied by the clanging of armor, resounded through the night sky.
When Lin Heng heard the sound outside Xiefang Garden, his heart instantly fell into an endless abyss. Everything was over.
On the rooftop, Wen Ziyi was subdued by the ruthless secret guards in a short while.
She stared at Lin Heng who was being controlled by the patrol soldiers below.
There was a sound of footsteps, and she turned her head to look. A dark figure slowly walked out from the shadows, holding in his hand the wooden box that she coveted so much that she was willing to sacrifice her life for it.
"Qin Xiu! This is your plan!"
Wen Ziyi shouted coldly, his eyes full of anger.
Qin Xiu's eyes fell on her, as if he was looking at an inanimate object. He turned indifferently to the distraught Lin Heng and spoke coldly:
"Lin Heng of the Fengguo Mansion failed to properly guard the important border defense equipment entrusted to him by the Crown Prince, allowing spies from the enemy nation to infiltrate and steal it, and we caught him red-handed! Arrest him immediately and escort him to the Heavenly Prison to await your Majesty's judgment!"
Qin Xiu's eyes swept over, "This woman sneaked in to steal the map and stubbornly resisted. She is suspected to be a spy for the enemy country. Take her away and interrogate her strictly!"
"No, Qin Xiu! You framed me for this!"
Lin Heng reacted, struggled and screamed, but was held down by the patrol soldiers behind him and a handkerchief was stuffed into his mouth.
Wen Ziyi was pulled up roughly.
She struggled to raise her face and stared towards the east of the city with resentful eyes.
“Take them all away!”
Qin Xiu stood in front of her condescendingly, and when Wen Ziyi looked up, he gave an order in an extremely cold tone.
Ning Pavilion.
Jiang Qingning stood alone on the highest viewing pavilion in the courtyard, her dress fluttering in the night breeze.
The walls of the capital were too high, so high that they blocked all her vision.
Zi Su appeared silently behind her and whispered, "Miss, there are lights on the west side of the city, and faint cries of killing can be heard. The patrol battalion also seemed to have headed that way half an hour ago."
Jiang Qingning slowly raised her hand and smoothed her hair that was messed up by the wind, her fingertips were cold.
"Zi Su, the wind is blowing." She said softly, and her voice disappeared into the night.
The bloody storm in Xiefang Garden was like a huge rock thrown into a calm lake, causing huge waves among the powerful and wealthy in the capital.
Lin Heng, the legitimate son of the Duke of Fengguo, failed to guard the border map properly, which allowed spies from the enemy country to sneak in and steal it. He was caught red-handed by the patrol battalion and imprisoned in the sky prison.
Also arrested was an unidentified female assassin who fought back stubbornly.
The news spread like wildfire, spreading throughout the streets and alleys overnight.
The gate of the Duke of Fengguo's Mansion was closed tightly. The once magnificent palace was now shrouded in a dead silence.
East Palace.
There were crackling sounds, and the palace maids and eunuchs knelt on the ground trembling with fear.
Lu Cheng smashed his favorite mutton-fat jade paperweight to pieces. His face turned ashen and his eyes were filled with anger that was almost bursting out.
"Qin Xiu, how could it be him? Why would Qin Xiu attack Lin Heng!"
Lu Cheng recalled Qin Xiu's words in his mind and immediately reacted.
All the friendship in the past was just superficial. Qin Xiu was a wolf in sheep's clothing, and he bit him back fiercely!
And now everyone in the imperial city knows that Qin Xiu’s action is tantamount to slapping him, the prince, in the face in public!
Lu Cheng gnashed his teeth, his eyes blazing with fire: "Qin Xiu, I will not let you go!"
Ning Pavilion.
Jiang Qingning sat upright in the study. The morning light was breaking outside the window and the chirping of birds could be heard, but it did not disturb her thoughts at all.
Zi Su walked in quietly and served a cup of freshly brewed cloud tea.
"Miss, Lord Qin entered the palace before dawn next door." Zi Su whispered, with an imperceptible nervousness in her voice.
Jiang Qingning picked up the tea, the hot steam blurred her cold eyebrows and eyes. She blew away the foam gently and hummed, but her emotion could not be heard.
Zi Su lowered her voice even more, "Wei Zhai and Fu Boqian left the west wing of the front yard before dawn in a hurry, leaving only a servant behind to say they were visiting a friend and would not be back for an uncertain time."
"I sent someone to follow them quietly and found that they did not leave the city, but entered an inconspicuous inn in the south of the city. They must have noticed Wen Ziyi's identity."
Jiang Qingning paused holding the cup, a flicker of understanding flashing across his eyes: "After all, they are the remnants of the previous dynasty. Even if their sense of smell is not very sensitive, they will be the next. It's better for them to leave. If they leave, my Ning Pavilion will be peaceful."
