Chapter 73 The Man of Destiny

After Su Qi and Gu Beiheng emerged from the cave, they marked a spot nearby. They then restored the thorn forest to its original state and continued walking along the path.

No characteristics consistent with iron ore were found.

Could it be that my guess was wrong?

The iron ore mountain is not here, something is obviously wrong.

Seeing the sun gradually moving westward, Gu Beiheng looked up at the diminishing sunlight on the treetops. He rubbed his brows.

"Qiqi, let's go back first. I'll ask Ying Er, Ying San, and Ying Si to come and look for iron ore. According to the situation in the cave, the iron ore must be in this mountain range.

Otherwise, it would be impossible to put so many things in the cave. But, who is it?"

"No matter who it is, the capable one will take it, and it will be ours in the future." The things in the forest don't have the owner's name written on them, not to mention that they have to be mined secretly.

Otherwise, it would be a serious crime punishable by death and extermination of the entire clan.

Su Qi and Gu Beiheng were not afraid that the iron ore would escape, so they hurried down the mountain. As the last rays of the sun faded, Su Qi and Gu Beiheng arrived at the foot of the mountain.

The exit is from the north, and you have to pass by the shacks of the Gu family.

Since it was impossible to build houses in the winter, everyone had to build thatched huts to live in. They would not start building houses until the spring thaw.

In front of the shack.

Someone was burning firewood to cook porridge, and the aroma of the porridge drifted out with the wind.

In the darkness, a pair of eyes stared at Gu Beiheng and Su Qi, seeing that they were holding a paper lantern with a candle inside.

This was taken out by Su Qi from the space.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, they lit lanterns and walked along. Flashlights were naturally not allowed to be used, as they would have frightened these inexperienced people.

Gu Beiheng noticed something strange and shot a cold look at the other person.

Shadow moved and stood up, walking towards them following a ray of light.

Gu Beiheng stopped, and Su Qi stopped as well. Just as she was about to ask Gu Beiheng something, she saw Gu Beihan coming over.

"Beiheng, I want to talk to you about something." Gu Beihan was wearing a coarse cloth jacket with his hands tucked into his sleeves.

He looks so timid and cowardly, and there is no trace of his former glory.

Gu Beiheng glanced at him coldly and said, "Go ahead."

"Go to the side."

"Right here. I don't need to hide my affairs from Qiqi. There is nothing she can't know." Gu Beiheng stretched out his left hand and pinched Su Qi's sleeve. "If you insist, then there's no need to tell her."

Gu Beiheng saw Gu Beihan's hesitant look and interrupted him.

Gu Beihan hesitated for a moment, and finally took out a jade pendant in his hand.

"This is something you have carried with you since you were a child. It doesn't look like something from the mansion, so your mother secretly hid this jade pendant." Gu Beihan took the jade pendant in his palm, let Gu Beiheng and Su Qi take a look at it, and then put it away.

"I accidentally heard my mother say that this jade pendant is related to your life experience. If you want to know, you can take it back." Gu Beihan put the jade pendant in his sleeve.

His sinister look relaxed a little.

Gu Beiheng was stunned.

What is your background?

Why is it that I don't understand this?

Isn't he the child of General Gu's mansion? Could there be other secrets, like the bloody stories Su Qi told about the general's mansion?

Su Qi's eyes widened instantly, and her ears pricked up to listen more.

"If you want it, give me five hundred taels of silver. It's obviously top-grade old pit ice-type. I'll get this much even if I take it to a pawnshop." Gu Beihan's eyes moved back and forth between Gu Beiheng and Su Qi's faces, wanting to see if they were willing to part with it.

"Take it to the pawnshop. Who has five hundred taels of silver these days?" Gu Beiheng flatly refused, not wanting to know anything about his background. He felt a little better, though. If this old man was biased towards him, it made sense.

The little claws in Su Qi's heart were swinging back and forth.

We can bargain.

Gu Beihan hesitated for a moment, "Then how much do you want to give me?"

"One hundred taels."

Gu Beihan remained silent, seemingly considering what Gu Beiheng had said. "One hundred taels isn't enough. I need to buy a house at the foot of the mountain. You can add a little more."

"Are you crazy? Is the foot of the mountain where we can live now?"

"Don't worry about it. Just give me the money." Gu Beihan's eyes were scarlet, mixed with his usual sinister look that made people feel uneasy. "What am I doing here? Isn't it not manly to let people laugh at me for being rootless?

That damn woman jumps fast. Even after I die and go to hell, I won't let her go." Gu Beihan's back teeth creaked.

"If my Jingru hadn't insisted on playing with this jade pendant, I wouldn't have even remembered I was still wearing it."

Gu Beihan's unintentional words alerted Su Qi. The little koi wouldn't ask for the jade pendant for no reason, unless it truly held a secret.

"Brother, we don't have that much silver. We have some grains and coarse cloth here. How about I give you eighty taels of silver and convert the rest into grains and coarse cloth?"

Su Qi sighed and explained leisurely:

"These were all sent by Bei Heng's subordinates. They said they were concerned about our family's well-being. You know we spent all our money along the way.

If you agree, can we do it this way?"

"Okay. I believe what you say." Gu Beihan took out the jade pendant. He knew that Gu Beiheng's words were his bond.

Seeing Gu Beiheng nod in agreement, he handed the jade pendant over.

"Where's the silver?"

Gu Beiheng took out ten taels of silver from his pocket and said, "There are only ten taels here. Will you come back with me to get them?"

"Go get it tomorrow. I believe you won't owe me." Gu Beihan took the ten taels of silver and turned to leave.

In the dim light of the lantern, Su Qi looked at the jade pendant.

Faintly.

It felt like the jade pendant had come alive, and the totem on it seemed to be swimming. Su Qi couldn't help but reach out and touch it, it was warm and smooth.

"Good jade." Su Qi whispered softly.

There are many fine jades in the space, but it is rare to find a jade pendant like this one.

"Put it away." Gu Beiheng was too lazy to look at it and might as well go home for dinner.

Su Qi curled her lips.

He put the jade away, thinking that he would ask Xianghe to make a necklace for Gu Beiheng to wear.

The two walked along the path towards home.

The wind carried a faint voice over. "Gu Beihan, where is the jade pendant my Jingru wants? Jingru is weak and needs the jade pendant to nourish her body."

"Do you have anyone else in your mind besides Jingru Jingru all day long? Jingfeng is also your son, do you still remember him in your heart?" Gu Beihan's voice was gloomy and impatient.

"Dad, Mom. You don't have to worry about me."

"How could I not remember? He is also a piece of flesh that fell from my body. What do you want me to do as a woman?

Jingru needs that jade, or you can go and ask Gu Beiheng. Can you let Jingru stay at his house for a few days? Just a few days will be enough, Gu Beiheng, I beg you.

"Don't kneel to me. You are not homeless, so why let Jingru live in Beiheng's house?" Gu Beihan was furious.

Su Qi and Gu Beiheng stopped and both pricked up their ears to listen to the sound.

It seemed like Fang Xiaoya lowered her voice.

"I have no choice. Jingru has to go to his house. Or you can ask Dabao and Erbao to come over to play tomorrow..." Fang Xiaoya's voice was lowered and could not be heard.

Later on, even Gu Beihan's voice could no longer be heard.

Su Qi was furious. Was this a forced attempt to absorb his luck?

Sucking luck?

Could that really be the case? That would explain why being near her was bad luck. Someone's luck was being absorbed by her.

It's so fucking weird.

Su Qi noticed that Gu Beiheng's face was ashen and his fists were clenching and making crackling sounds.

"Beiheng, what did they say?"

Gu Beiheng turned to look at Su Qi, his eyes gleaming with cruelty. "They say our family is blessed with good fortune. Just kidnap Dabao and Erbao and keep them with Gu Jingru. Then her family's fortunes will naturally improve."

"It is said that Master Liaoran once said that there is only one person with destiny in this world."
