Chapter 70: The tide turns
Su Hanchu shook his head slightly when he heard this.
"It's not much, don't waste it. The Chen family won't be able to achieve anything great."
Upon hearing this, Jun Moye knew that this potion was probably very precious, so he pulled the quilt open slightly, exposing his head so that he could breathe.
"Go to sleep. You've been worried about a lot of things this day. Thank you for your hard work."
A night passed.
The next morning, the waiter came to Jun's house.
"Sir, there's someone outside looking for you. He said your Jun family has ordered something."
Upon hearing this, Su Hanchu went to the inn entrance with Jun Moye and gave the remaining silver. Then they took the buns and distributed them to the people from the Jun and Su families. After eating, they started on their journey.
When Captain Feng woke up, he was weak and did not ride his horse anymore. Instead, he sat in the carriage where supplies were stored.
Jun Moye looked at the carriage and pulled Su Hanchu to the front.
Su Hanchu noticed that one of the daughters of the Chen family was riding a horse with Ning Chatou.
Ning Chatou even put his arm around Chen Sipan's waist affectionately, and Chen Sipan lowered her head with a shy look on her face.
Su Hanchu glanced at it and then looked away. The Chen family was really generous, even giving their daughter away. In this era, a woman's future life would be difficult if she lost her innocence.
The weather was still cold, but it wasn't snowing anymore. However, the snow on the ground hadn't melted either.
Su Han and Jun Moye had already changed into heating insoles early in the morning. The people from the Jun and Su families felt much better than before because they had put on an extra cotton coat.
Jun Moye insisted on carrying Su Hanchu on his back.
It was not until near noon, when the warm winter sun rose, that Jun Moye let Su Hanchu come down and walk by himself.
At noon, the captain announced a one-hour break.
Su Hanchu distributed the steamed buns he bought in the morning. Together with the ones given by the escort, the people from the Jun and Su families had two steamed buns, which was more than enough to fill them up. Some people even secretly kept one for safekeeping.
Su Hanchu and Jun Moye leaned against each other, eating steamed buns and drinking spiritual spring water.
Chuntao came over and spoke.
"Young Madam, the second daughter of the Chen family seems to be pregnant. It's said that it's the Crown Prince's child. The whole team has spread the news. Captain Feng even arranged for the second daughter of the Chen family to sit on the supply carriage. Madam Chen was showing off all the way, and the eldest wife of the Fang family also became proud."
Upon hearing this, Su Hanchu looked towards the Chen family in the distance, but as expected, he did not see Chen Siting. He then looked at the carriage transporting supplies in the distance, and saw Chen Siting already sitting on the carriage with the package. He then looked at Chen Fangshi, who was chatting with people everywhere, talking about her daughter's pregnancy.
Su Hanchu let out a sarcastic smile. Since when did getting pregnant before marriage become an honorable thing?
"Jun Moye, what do you think the Chen Fang family is trying to achieve by showing off like this? This isn't the imperial city. If they were, there would probably be a lot of people congratulating the Chen family. But out here in the wilderness, with so little food and clothing, what does it matter if others find out?"
Jun Moye glanced at Chen Sipan standing next to Ning Chatou and spoke slowly.
"I'm afraid their purpose isn't to show off."
Upon hearing this, Su Hanchu looked at Chen Siting. Chen Siting was much smarter than Chen Siyu.
"I also think this purpose is not simple. The child in her belly is the greatest hope of the Chen family. If it is just to make Chen Siting's life easier, just let a few police officers know about it.
After all, she is the flesh and blood of the Crown Prince, so naturally no one dares to neglect her. Moreover, Chief Feng should know the relationship between Chen Siting and the Crown Prince from beginning to end. I am afraid that the Chen family has some purpose in publicizing it so loudly.
Jun Moye pondered for a moment.
"They might have wanted to tell the Crown Prince that Chen Siting was pregnant, but Captain Feng wasn't feeling well last night, so the Chen family must have made two preparations. The first was to ask Captain Ning to help pass the message, and the second was to publicize the matter and wait for the Crown Prince's men in the team to report it to him."
Su Hanchu understood everything immediately after hearing this.
"Indeed, if the Crown Prince wants us dead, he would naturally leave someone to gather information."
The couple was talking.
Suddenly the leader shouted loudly.
"Get ready to go..."
Su Hanchu and Jun Moye stood up and began to prepare to set off.
Jiang Like also came over to push the snowmobile.
Suddenly, Su Hanchu's eyes swept over to Old Madam Chen, and saw Chen Wenlin supporting Old Madam Chen and letting Chen Wenjie carry her on his back, but Old Madam Chen did not react at all. Chen Wenlin even took some cloth strips and tied Old Madam Chen to Chen Wenjie. Su Hanchu looked at the cloth strips wrapped around her, and Old Madam Chen's body seemed very stiff.
"Jun Moye..."
Jun Moye followed Su Hanchu's gaze and found this scene so familiar.
Su Hanchu spoke in a low voice.
"I'm afraid they've already gone."
Jun Moye's gaze was inevitably deep as he looked over there. After a moment, he held Su Hanchu's hand and walked forward step by step.
"Han Chu, do you think I'm heartless?"
Su Hanchu held his hand tightly.
"No, you're fine, Jun Moye. They brought this upon themselves. Besides, hatred can never be resolved with just a simple apology or admitting one's mistake. It only counts as an apology when the other party cries as bitterly as I did back then."
Jun Moye seemed to feel less depressed after hearing this, but he still looked towards Old Madam Chen from time to time. Not exposing the truth now would be his last act of kindness to the Chen family.
As Chen Wenlin hurried on his way, he picked up weeds from the roadside and slowly began to weave. Although his weaving was not very good, he still persisted.
Chen Siyu would also pick some hay for Chen Wenlin, but under the cover of snow, there was very little hay, only a little bit under the trees where it was not covered by snow.
At night, after settling down at the inn, some members of the Chen family went to collect firewood, while Chen Wenlin and Chen Wenjie went around looking for hay.
Su Hanchu and Jun Moye, who went out to collect firewood, happened to meet Chen Wenlin who was holding hay.
Chen Wenlin looked panicked, and he felt that Su Hanchu and the others had understood something.
Jun Moye just glanced at the hay in his arms and walked to the other side with Su Hanchu.
Chen Wenlin called out to them unwillingly.
"Jun Moye."
Jun Moye stopped and spoke coldly.
"Master Chen, is there something wrong?"
Chen Wenlin pursed his lips, looking sad.
"Your grandmother has passed away. Are you really not going to come and see her?"
Jun Moye didn't say anything after hearing this, and continued to walk forward with Su Hanchu.
Seeing this, Chen Wenlin spoke hurriedly.
"Mo Ye, death is the end of all things. Even if you hold a grudge against the Chen family, your grandmother paid the price for it. Can we be even from now on?"
Jun Moye did not answer him when he heard this, but turned around and looked at him.
"Master Chen, how does it feel to be carrying your mother's body on your back, trembling with fear that others will find out?
