Wei Che turned around and thought for a moment before saying, "Master Li must be aware that he has lost the official. It is a serious fault for the official not to report on time this morning."
He paused, "There's something fishy."
Su Huaiyue frowned slightly, thinking silently in his heart.
She didn't have much trust in Lord Li, but for strategic reasons, she needed to test him.
"Anyway, I'll go check it out."
She said firmly.
Seeing that she was determined to do so, Wei Che stopped persuading her: "I'll go with you."
Su Huaiyue nodded: "Alright, if that Lord Li really knows something, we can ask him."
The two men walked side by side to Lord Li's residence. After knocking on the door, a servant came out and respectfully led them into the hall.
Lord Li was enjoying his morning tea. When he saw the two men come in, he put down his bowl and chopsticks and put on a formal smile. "Why are you here so early to see me? What brings you here?"
Su Huaiyue looked around and noticed that the walls were covered with exquisite antiques, calligraphy and paintings. She smiled slightly and understood something in her heart.
Such an elegant object has never been seen on the Road of Exile. How could Lord Li carry such a precious thing with him on the Road of Exile!
She asked tentatively, "I heard that two officials were lost last night. Does Lord Li know about this?"
Lord Li was stunned, then smiled apologetically and said, "You lost your official? Why do you say that?"
Su Huaiyue's mind was working quickly. She glanced at Wei Che, and he nodded slightly, indicating that she should continue to test it.
So, she pretended to be casual and said, "Oh, that might be because the storm was so intense last night that Your Excellency didn't know about it."
Su Huaiyue's words seemed to touch Lord Li's heart. His expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure. "Oh, the patrol officer last night didn't report this. It seems that something urgent has been delayed."
As he spoke, his eyes fell on the calligraphy and painting, which seemed to have an extra layer of meaning.
Su Huaiyue's mind became clearer - these antiques, calligraphy and paintings should not be his private collection, and may indicate some kind of transaction or alliance.
She decided to approach the question from a different perspective. "These scrolls are truly delightful to the eye. I wonder when you will collect them?"
Lord Li smiled and waved his hand in a hypocritical manner: "Oh, it's just something I found by chance, nothing to mention."
Su Huaiyue and Wei Che exchanged a knowing look, and had a clearer suspicion in their hearts.
The confusion that lingered in my mind seemed to begin to clear up, but it was not very clear.
In the stiff smile of Lord Li, Su Huaiyue was thinking in his heart, but he did not relax on the surface.
She looked at Lord Li and said calmly, "Lord Li, I'm afraid what happened last night wasn't as simple as you said."
Lord Li's expression was frozen, and the teacup in his hand trembled slightly.
He cleared his throat, trying to hide his inner uneasiness: "Oh? What do you mean, Madam Wei?"
"We followed the two officers last night," Wei Che interrupted, his tone intimidating, "and found that they went to the back mountain, and..."
Su Huaiyue took over the conversation, her eyes sharp as a knife: "That place is full of blood and bones. I think your two officials may have been killed by traitors."
These words seemed to create a whirlwind in the room.
Lord Li's face suddenly turned pale. He wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead with his sleeve and smiled awkwardly, "This... This I have no idea about."
Su Huaiyue raised her eyebrows, not missing any subtle expression on his face.
"Master Li, do you really know nothing? Or is there really someone manipulating this from behind?"
Lord Li glanced at the calligraphy and paintings on the wall, as if he was considering something.
"Madam Wei, do you know who...um...is involved?"
He asked reluctantly.
During the eye contact, Su Huaiyue saw the struggle and some implicit request for help in Lord Li's eyes.
She said suggestively, "Zhang Guzi, he showed up last night."
When he heard the name, Lord Li's hand trembled and the tea spilled out.
"Zhang Guzi did come last night. He gave me these calligraphy and paintings and said he wanted to lend me two of his capable men, and then... he took them away."
His voice was trembling, as if he was recalling the vague nightmare that night.
"Master Li, you don't actually know about this, right?"
Wei Che pursued.
"Yes... I have no idea."
Lord Li's voice became inaudible, but it revealed a hint of sincerity.
"Then please help us put on a play."
Su Huaiyue smiled slightly and suggested.
Her smile was as gentle as spring breeze, but the content of her words was not light-hearted.
Lord Li looked at the two people in front of him vigilantly, and finally sighed.
"I can cooperate with you, but I need you to ensure that Zhang Guzi won't get suspicious."
"Never."
Wei Che nodded, his eyes sharp.
"Tonight, we will explore the castle again. You just need to hold him back."
Lord Li took a deep breath and nodded heavily: "Okay, I'll follow your arrangements."
The details discussed next made Su Huaiyue feel a little relieved.
Suddenly, a scream was heard in the corridor, interrupting Su Huaiyue and Wei Che's discussion.
The two looked at each other and subconsciously rushed towards the sound.
I saw a group of people gathered at the door of Wang's room, all of them looked panicked. Wang's little grandson was lying on the ground, foaming at the mouth and unconscious.
"W-What the hell is going on?"
Wei Che's eyes were serious as he quickly moved through the crowd, and Su Huaiyue followed closely behind him.
"What happened to that kid?"
