The next morning, Su Huaiyue woke up in the rosy sky, with last night's conversation still echoing in her mind.
Wei Che was no longer in the room. She pushed open the door and saw him standing in the yard, staring at the desolate land at the east end of the village, thinking.
"Good morning."
Su Huaiyue walked towards him and smiled slightly, "Did you sleep well last night?"
Wei Che turned around, the fatigue between his brows slightly dissipated by the morning sun, "I'm fine. Any news from Lord Li?"
"Not yet."
Su Huaiyue shook her head, thinking in her heart, she knew that she couldn't just sit there and wait for death. "But I do have an idea."
A hint of confidence appeared on her face.
"Oh? Tell me about it."
Wei Che put down the stone in his hand, interested.
"Actually, I was thinking that although the villagers are temporarily short of food, they are not completely helpless in finding ways to be self-reliant."
Su Huaiyue dragged Wei Che to the courtyard of the village chief's house. "Look, every household has some land. But the village chief said that because they can't afford seeds and the weather is bad, the harvest has been poor."
Wei Che nodded in agreement. "It's indeed a problem. The seeds in town are expensive and may not be suitable for the environment here."
"But I happened to have some with me."
Su Huaiyue lowered her voice, a hint of mystery on her face, "Some seeds that grow particularly well."
Wei Che raised his eyebrows, obviously attracted by her expression, "Are you talking about the things found in your bag?"
"That's right."
Su Huaiyue patted the package gently, with a hint of pride in her voice, "These seeds don't require a picky environment. With a little bit of water, maybe they can help the villagers regain their confidence in planting."
"This land is extremely desolate. Can it be done?"
Wei Che looked at her suspiciously.
Su Huaiyue nodded without saying anything, but took him to the backyard of the village chief's house.
There was an open space in the yard, and she had been keeping an eye on it since last night.
She gently dug a hole and scattered some seeds in it, then took out a small bottle from her package and secretly poured some water into it.
"Let's give it a try, maybe there will be a surprise in a few days."
She said expectantly.
Wei Che looked at her, a little puzzled, but said nothing.
"We'll tell the village chief right away and ask him to arrange for someone to look after this land."
Just as the two were about to leave, the village chief came over. Seeing this scene, his eyes flashed and he asked curiously, "Madam Wei, what are you doing?"
"Village Chief, we are trying to grow some things."
Su Huaiyue explained, trying not to reveal too much, "If everything goes well, we will have new hope."
The village chief nodded half-doubtfully, but looking at the determined eyes of Su Huaiyue and Wei Che, a spark of expectation ignited in his heart.
“It would be great if it worked out.”
Su Huaiyue smiled at the village chief and said, "Let's work together and hope to bring a turnaround for the village."
Su Huaiyue and Wei Che left the backyard of the village chief's house.
When they passed by the village square, they found some women showing each other their handmade embroidery. Although the colors were bright, everyone's face was full of sadness.
Su Huaiyue stopped and turned to Wei Che and said, "Wei Che, I think we can start with these handicrafts."
"You mean, let them continue embroidering these things?"
Wei Che frowned in confusion, and doubts arose in his mind about what she said.
"But the village chief just mentioned that in a famine year, handmade embroidery probably won't sell."
"I have a plan."
Su Huaiyue smiled slightly, with a glimmer of confidence in her eyes.
"Let them continue embroidering. I'll find a way to sell these things."
Wei Che pondered for a moment and nodded in agreement.
"Then let's go find the village chief and ask him to help contact the village's embroiderers."
Su Huaiyue's eyes were full of determination, as if he had seen the dawn.
The two went straight back to the village chief's residence and found that the village chief was smoking a pipe in the yard, and seemed to be worried about the future of the village.
"Village Chief, we have another plan."
Su Huaiyue spoke straight to the point.
"Oh? You have a new idea?"
The village chief put down his pipe and looked at them expectantly.
"Well, this time we want the women in the village to continue embroidering their handicrafts. I will find a way to sell them."
Su Huaiyue explained seriously.
The village chief frowned, "But Madam Wei, even food and clothing are a problem now, let alone the sales of embroidery."
"I believe that as long as we look for a way out with all our heart, there will be a way out."
Su Huaiyue responded firmly, her eyes full of fearlessness.
The village chief pondered for a moment, then nodded and said, "Okay, then let's fight it out. Otherwise, there's no other way. I'll go gather these embroiderers later."
Su Huaiyue smiled slightly, and the plan in her mind gradually became clear.
"Thank you, village chief."
Back in the house, Su Huaiyue sat at the table, his thoughts in a tizzy.
She couldn't help but think of those women, whose every stitch embodied their hopes for the future.
And she must seize this opportunity.
Wei Che looked at her in deep thought and felt a surge of admiration for this woman.
He knew that this was not just a transaction, but concerned the future of the entire village.
In the evening, Su Huaiyue and Wei Che were discussing the follow-up action plan when they heard hurried footsteps in the yard.
Wei Che became alert and immediately stood up to check.
