The dark sky seemed to be splashed with ink, depressing and deep.
The high-hanging stars twinkle in the vast fields along with the distant lights, like the faint light of countless fireflies gently fanning the tranquility of the night.
The village is shrouded in tranquility, with the occasional barking of dogs echoing. Orange lights shine through the windows of every household, as if guarding every warm dream.
But in a simple hut at the entrance of the village, there was a faint sense of tension that was incompatible with the tranquility of the outside world.
Su Huaiyue was sitting on the wooden couch. She should have been sleeping peacefully, but she was awakened by an almost inaudible sound.
Her long black hair was draped over her shoulders, gleaming faintly in the moonlight.
She put on her coat lightly, but the uneasiness in her heart couldn't be shaken off, as if a wild beast was spying on her in the dark.
Su Huaiyue has experienced many ups and downs over the years and has long developed the quality of remaining calm in the face of danger.
Although her face is gentle, the calmness and determination revealed between her brows cannot be underestimated.
Raising her hand slightly, she made a simple and powerful gesture, signaling several villagers around her who had not closed their eyes all night to follow her.
At this moment, the air outside the hut seemed to freeze, and even the night wind held its breath.
They moved lightly, as silently as shadows, their nervous eyes focused on the mysterious black shadow moving beside the house not far away.
Su Huaiyue narrowed his eyes, and a hint of sharpness appeared on his peaceful face in the night.
"Who is it?"
She asked in a low voice, her tone filled with irrepressible determination and calmness.
The dark shadow seemed to freeze briefly when it heard the sound, obviously not expecting to be discovered so quickly.
He struggled in panic, but the villagers were too strong and quickly pinned him to the ground.
With the help of the flickering light of the oil lamp not far away, Su Huaiyue walked closer and looked carefully at the black shadow in front of him who was breathing rapidly.
The man's face was covered in dust, and the years had mercilessly carved traces of it, making his face appear even darker and deeper in the light.
Su Huaiyue looked closely and the face in front of her overlapped with her memory. It seemed that she had seen him among the people in the Hu Mansion before.
"Are you a servant of the Hu Mansion?"
Although her voice was low, it echoed in the night like a drum. Her eyes were full of confusion and puzzlement. The other party pursed his lips, obviously unwilling to say more.
For a moment, the atmosphere seemed a little solemn.
Su Huaiyue turned and looked at Wei Che who had already arrived. "I'll leave the person to you, okay?"
Wei Che nodded slightly and led the man into the hut.
He once made the enemy's dead soldiers reveal secrets on the battlefield. It can be seen that he is very skilled and there is no intelligence that cannot be pried out of him.
Throughout the entire process, he maintained a calm demeanor, preventing the servant from making any unnecessary movements.
"Even if you don't tell us, we will know it."
Wei Che stood opposite him, his tone calm but extremely intimidating.
The servant kept his mouth shut and said nothing.
"I've seen many loyal men like you on the battlefield, but they all surrendered in the end under my command." Wei Che said, then he pulled out a dagger from his waist and said with a sigh, "What a pity! I haven't killed anyone in a long time. I'm afraid my dagger has forgotten the taste of drinking blood. How about..."
Before he could finish the second half of the sentence, Wei Che saw that the man's pants were wet.
"Promising." Wei Che felt bored and motioned Su Huaiyue to come over to listen to what was going on.
"If you confess everything, I'll spare your life. Otherwise, in this desolate wilderness, you won't even have a complete corpse by the time you get there."
Su Huaiyue happened to hear these words when she walked over, and immediately found that Wei Che was quite threatening when he threatened people. It was night time, and she felt a gust of cold wind beside her.
The servant finally spoke and admitted in a low voice that he was instructed by the butler beside Hu Qiu.
They hoped to prevent the price from falling by destroying the vegetables grown by Su Huaiyue, which would affect their ability to sell grain at a high price.
Su Huaiyue was not surprised by the result.
"I've suspected this a long time ago," Su Huaiyue said to Wei Che, her tone quite calm. "They are most likely behind this. We must be more careful and not let them affect the normal life of the village."
Wei Che nodded, "From now on, we must not relax our night patrols. If the Hu Mansion sends more people, we will be able to respond in time."
The silence in the hut seemed particularly heavy for a moment, and the only sound was the servant's slightly trembling breathing due to fear and anxiety.
Su Huaiyue and Wei Che looked at each other and exchanged a subtle glance.
Then, Su Huaiyue said to the servant in a gentle but firm tone: "Don't be afraid, we won't hurt you."
The servant raised his head with a hint of doubt in his eyes. He was obviously half-believing and half-doubting what Su Huaiyue said.
Su Huaiyue slowly approached him, took out a small cloth bag from her sleeve and placed it in front of him.
The cloth bag was heavy, obviously filled with a lot of silver and money.
She whispered, "Take this money and go back and tell your housekeeper that all the crops in Wangjia Village were flooded this year and the villagers are crying. In short, the more tragic the story, the better."
The servant looked at Su Huaiyue with some confusion, as if he couldn't believe his ears.
He hesitated for a moment and asked in a low voice: "You...you won't catch me?"
Su Huaiyue smiled slightly and shook her head. "We're not going to arrest you. On the contrary, we need your help. You can continue to inquire about the news in the Hu Mansion. If there is anything unusual, tell us in time."
Wei Che also added: "We don't want to be your enemy. As long as you are willing to help us, we will naturally not treat you unfairly in the future."
The servant hesitated, as if he had not expected such a turn of events.
He clenched the cloth bag and nodded, knowing that the people he met this time were completely different from those in the Hu Mansion.
