Chapter 183: Attack on the Forest

After a moment's silence, several young yamen runners stood up. Although there was a hint of fear on their faces, their eyes were firm. "Miss Su, we will go with you. We can't let you take the risk alone."

Several elderly yamen runners chose to stay outside the mountain. They said, "We will guard here. If you are in danger, we will report back to the county government immediately."

In this way, Su Huaiyue and Wei Che, along with a few young yamen runners, walked cautiously into the depths of the forest.

With every step they took, they vigilantly observed the movements around them, as if danger might come at any time.

The forest was eerily quiet, with only the occasional bird calls adding to the tense atmosphere.

As Su Huaiyue walked, she carefully observed the plants around her, hoping to find the medicinal herbs she needed as soon as possible.

Suddenly, Wei Che, who was walking in front, raised his hand and signaled everyone to stop.

He whispered, "Listen everyone, there seems to be some movement."

Everyone immediately held their breath and pricked up their ears to listen.

Sure enough, there was a slight rustling sound not far away, as if someone was moving in the grass.

Wei Che said softly to Su Huaiyue: "Hide behind me, be careful."

Then he slowly drew out his sword, his eyes full of vigilance.

Several yamen runners also clenched their weapons and stared nervously at the direction where the sound came from.

After a while, a hare jumped out from the grass. When it saw the crowd, it ran away in panic.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Su Huaiyue patted his chest and said, "It seems to be a false alarm, but we still can't let our guard down."

Continuing on, they finally found some needed medicinal herbs in a valley.

A hint of surprise flashed in Su Huaiyue's eyes, and she said softly: "Everyone, be careful and don't alarm the people around. Let's quickly collect herbs."

The geology of this area is excellent, and these herbs should be abundant in it, but there are obvious signs that the plants around here have been pulled out, but because the "people" in the mountains are watching closely, no one has succeeded.

Su Huaiyue lowered her voice, "Everyone, keep your voices down. There are knife marks here, and sword marks on the surrounding trees. Let's finish this quickly."

As he spoke, Su Huaiyue quickened his pace.

Just as everyone was concentrating on collecting herbs and the atmosphere was tense and full of anticipation, the tranquility of the surrounding forest was suddenly broken by a burst of hurried footsteps.

In an instant, a group of mysterious masked men rushed out from all directions like ghosts.

These masked men had fierce eyes and held sharp blades in their hands. The cold light flashed under the mottled shadows of the trees, which was frightening.

Su Huaiyue was startled and subconsciously tightened the herb-picking tools in her hand, looking at the group of uninvited guests vigilantly.

She was keenly aware that the eyes of these people seemed to be fixed on her. They had no good intentions and their target was her.

Wei Che reacted extremely quickly, instantly drawing his sword and protecting Su Huaiyue behind him, shouting, "Who are you? Why are you stopping us from collecting herbs and saving people?"

The voice echoed through the mountains and forests, full of anger and majesty.

The masked leader sneered, his voice low and hoarse, like a curse coming from the depths of hell: "Hmph, stop talking nonsense! She's the one we want! If you know what's good for you, hand her over obediently, or you won't leave alive!"

After saying this, he waved his hand, as if giving a death order, and his men brandished their swords and shouted, rushing towards them fiercely like hungry wolves.

The blade flashed a cold light in the sunlight, as if it wanted to devour everything in front of it.

A fierce fight broke out instantly.

Wei Che is an expert swordsman, his movements are as fast as lightning, the sword in his hand draws streaks of cold light in the sunlight, and every move he makes is extremely fierce.

His figure flashed, sword flowers danced, and he spun like a whirlwind, forcing back the approaching masked man.

For a moment, the masked men around were unable to get close to him, and the only sound was the continuous "ding-dang-dang" sound of swords clashing.

Several young yamen runners were not afraid either. Although they were nervous as deer were beating fast, in order to protect Su Huaiyue, they gripped their weapons tightly, their eyes revealing firm determination, and they gritted their teeth and fought a desperate battle with the masked man.

Some of them brandished long swords and slashed at the enemy with all their might; others held short sticks and flexibly blocked the attacks.

However, this group of masked men were obviously well-trained, had good coordination, and had an absolute advantage in numbers.

They worked in groups of three or five, coordinating with each other in the attack. For a moment, the situation became extremely tense.

As time went on, the situation became increasingly unfavorable for Su Huaiyue and the others.

The young yamen runners gradually became exhausted, beads of sweat the size of beans kept rolling down their foreheads, their breathing became rapid, and their bodies were scratched by swords and knives in many places, and their clothes were stained red with blood.

Although Wei Che fought hard and his swordsmanship remained sharp, he gradually felt powerless in the face of the enemies who kept coming like a tide.

His movements began to slow down, veins popped out on his forehead, and each time he blocked an attack, it became increasingly difficult.

Su Huaiyue was extremely anxious. Seeing the people around her falling into danger one by one, she knew that if this continued, everyone would be in dire straits.

She quickly looked around, her eyes revealing anxiety and panic, trying to find a way to escape.

Suddenly, her eyes flashed, and she saw Wei Che fighting fiercely with the masked man, and she had an idea in her mind.

Taking advantage of the clanging sound of swords covering up her own voice, Su Huaiyue crouched down and approached Wei Che quickly and carefully.

She whispered in Wei Che's ear, lowering her voice and speaking urgently, "Wei Che, the situation is not good. I'll give you the prescription. Once you go back, ask County Magistrate Chen to find a doctor to prepare the medicine to save the people."

As she spoke, she quickly took out a piece of paper with a prescription from her bosom and stuffed it into Wei Che's hand.

Wei Che's heart tightened and he subconsciously wanted to refuse, but when he saw Su Huaiyue's firm eyes, which showed unquestionable determination, he knew that this was not the time to argue.

He held the note tightly, feeling mixed emotions.

At this moment, a masked man seized the opportunity and attacked from the side like a ghost, with the sword in his hand stabbing at Su Huaiyue like a poisonous snake.

Wei Che was shocked when he saw this, and turned around without hesitation to stand in front of Su Huaiyue.

With a muffled "puff" sound, Wei Che was accidentally hit on the back by another masked man. A mouthful of blood spurted out uncontrollably and splashed in front of Su Huaiyue.

Su Huaiyue looked at the injured Wei Che, feeling anxious and tears welling up in her eyes.

She knew that she couldn't let anyone get involved, so she made up her mind and broke free from Wei Che's protection, shouting, "Don't hurt them, I'll go with you!"

The voice echoed in the mountains and forests, with determination and helplessness.
