Chapter 122 Rescue the Villagers

"I see."

Wei Che nodded, a hint of solemnity in his tone.

"So, you're going to help us now?"

"Yes."

Uncle Ping answered solemnly, his eyes unwavering.

"For the sake of my son and granddaughter, I will make sure those beasts can never harm anyone again. This time, I will help you deal with them."

Su Huaiyue's doubts were gradually replaced by hope, and she couldn't help but whisper, "Thank you, Uncle Ping. With your help, our plan will be more reliable."

"Don't thank me."

Uncle Ping shook his head and whispered bitterly, "If it weren't for revenge, I might not have the courage to stand here."

After a moment of silence, Wei Che's lips curled up slightly. He stretched out his hand and said firmly to Uncle Ping, "Then let's complete this plan together."

Several people exchanged a firm look. At this moment, the only thought in their minds was to burn all the evil.

The two of them walked slowly along the path directed by Uncle Ping, their slightly bent figures almost blending into the rock wall in the dim environment.

Su Huaiyue lowered her head, and pieces of dark green moss stretched under her feet. Her footsteps were so light that they seemed to dissipate at the touch of a finger.

She couldn't help but listen carefully to everything around her: in the silent cave, water dripped from the stalactites, making a crisp ticking sound; the faint breeze in the air stirred the flying bats, and the sound of their flapping wings rose and fell like heartbeats, pulling at her increasingly tense nerves.

Su Huaiyue became increasingly nervous, but also felt an anticipation that was difficult to suppress.

She turned her head and looked at Wei Che beside her. In the darkness, his eyes flashed with a firm light like stars.

Wei Che patted Su Huaiyue's shoulder, giving her silent support and encouragement, with the corners of his mouth slightly raised, flashing with a sense of certainty.

The moonlight shone through the cracks in the cave, casting a soft and cold light, falling on the cliffs around them, as if jumping between their steps.

The three of them couldn't help but quicken their pace and finally arrived at the door of the dark room that Uncle Ping mentioned.

There is no alternation of day and night here, only deep darkness and cold silence.

Uncle Ping stood still, his expression still as usual, his face showing immense calmness.

He gently placed his palm on the door panel, as if having a silent conversation with it, feeling the secrets and movements that might be hidden behind the door.

After a while, he turned his head and said to Su Huaiyue and Wei Che in a low and firm voice: "This door is not secure. I will open it. Get ready."

His old but steady fingers pushed lightly a few times, and the door panel creaked.

It opened with a sound, revealing a gap. In front of me was a dim room. In the corner was a large cage surrounded by iron bars. The cage was densely packed with bats and the smell was foul.

"It's right here."

Uncle Ping said in a low voice.

Su Huaiyue couldn't help but cover her mouth and nose and took half a step back. The dark room where the bats were raised smelled extremely bad, making people want to vomit.

She was secretly shocked by the number of bats and the people imprisoned not far away. She was unsure of their identities and reasons, but she knew that saving them was the top priority.

"What should we do? If we use fire, these people will..."

Wei Che frowned and glanced at the cage and the innocent captives.

"Yes, we have to find another way."

Uncle Ping sighed, but his eyes remained firm.

Just as they were discussing countermeasures, Uncle Ping suddenly mentioned another exit - "The other end of the large iron cage where the bats are kept leads to the pharmacist's room in the castle."

"Castle pharmacist?"

Su Huaiyue was puzzled, "He is here?"

"Yes, that old man is in charge of making poison and feeding bats. I heard that he just sleeps all day long."

Uncle Ping spoke in a very low voice, afraid that anyone would hear him.

Su Huaiyue sighed, no wonder, otherwise Zhang Qu would not have set his sights on her and asked her to make the poison.

Uncle Ping then took a few light steps, walked in front of Su Huaiyue and Wei Che, and led them through a narrower corridor until they reached the castle's pharmacist's room.

This place seems far away from the hustle and bustle, and the surroundings are particularly quiet.

"It's right here."

Uncle Ping whispered, turning to look at Su Huaiyue and Wei Che, a sly look in his eyes, "That old man must be sleeping."

Sure enough, when they pushed open the half-open door, what they saw was a messy room. The pharmacist of the castle was lying on a tattered wooden bed, snoring loudly.

Su Huaiyue smiled and took out a small bottle of sleeping pills from her arms. She gently unscrewed the cap and sprinkled the powder around the pharmacist.

"This way he should be able to sleep more soundly." Su Huaiyue said in a low voice.

In this gloomy room, a few weak rays of light leaked in from the swaying broken windows, casting mottled shadows on the walls through the dusty air.

A shabby cabinet in the corner was covered with dust and had cobwebs in the corners. It seemed that no one had cared about it for many years.

After a few seconds, after making sure that the pharmacist had no reaction at all, Wei Che looked around the room, and then he gestured to his companions to move on.

The three of them searched the room carefully, gently turning over the waste papers and tattered books that seemed to have been discarded at random, for fear of making too much noise.

A faint musty smell mixed with the sour smell of rotting paper made people frown slightly.

Wei Che stretched out his hand and pulled hard, and a hidden corner of the wall began to slowly retreat. The heavy friction sound was particularly obvious in the silence, as if this place with a long history was giving an unwilling gasp.
