Chapter 40 Making a Human Skin Drum (1/2)

Chen Yulan, holding Lu Jiaojiao's hand, said sarcastically to Shen Qingtang, "Sister-in-law, you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Jiaojiao is so lucky to have someone to protect her. It's much safer for us to stay here. Why do you have to cause trouble for everyone..."

"My affairs are none of your business," Shen Qingtang interrupted her directly, her eyes chillingly cold.

Seeing this, Lu Jin wanted to stand up for Chen Yulan again. He had just opened his mouth to say, "Shen Qingtang, don't go too far," when Shen Qingtang slapped him twice across the face.

His cheeks swelled up instantly, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.

"If you dare to talk nonsense in front of me again, it won't be as simple as getting a slap." Shen Qingtang's eyes were sharp, and Lu Jin was intimidated by her aura, so angry that he trembled all over.

He dared not utter another word, and could only stare at her with resentful eyes.

Having resolved the farce, Shen Qingtang didn't linger any longer. Leading her family, Qin Xian and his daughter, Pei Wuwang, Pei Nian'an, and a dozen or so government officials who were willing to leave, she quickly disappeared into the dense forest at the foot of the mountain.

On the mountain, Lu Jiaojiao saw that Shen Qingtang had left.

He became so smug that he lay down on the grass to sunbathe, even imitating Shen Qingtang.

She casually pulled weeds nearby, pretending to look for medicinal herbs. Chen Yulan stayed by her side.

The more I looked at her, the more I felt she was my darling, and I held her hand and kept talking to her.

The Pei family members also surrounded Lu Jiaojiao, fawning over her by calling her "Jiaojiao Girl" repeatedly.

Grandma Pei leaned over to hand her water, and Pei Yurou fanned her.

Pei Mingxuan even went out of his way to gather firewood, hoping to share in her "good fortune".

Just then, the sound of rapid hoofbeats came from afar, followed by a group of cavalrymen dressed in northern desert attire and wielding scimitars charging over.

They were instantly surrounded. This time, there were several times more people than before, each one looking fierce and menacing, their eyes filled with murderous intent.

"Northern Desert people! It's Northern Desert people!" someone screamed, and the people who were just surrounding Lu Jiaojiao instantly panicked and retreated.

Lu Jiaojiao was so frightened that she jumped up from the ground, her face deathly pale. Her previous smugness vanished, and she screamed as she backed away, "Don't come any closer! I'm lucky! I can kill you all!"

But this time, the Northern Desert cavalry didn't buy her act at all. The leader sneered and waved his hand, saying, "Arrest them all! Anyone who resists will be killed without mercy!"

The cold glint of the drawn scimitars reflected on everyone's faces as Lu Jiaojiao watched the approaching cavalry.

She finally realized that Shen Qingtang hadn't lied to her; danger was really coming, and her so-called "good fortune" was gone.

In the face of absolute power, it is utterly worthless.

The Northern Desert cavalrymen were all strong and robust, their scimitars gleaming coldly in the sunlight.

They surrounded Lu Jiaojiao and her group, making it impossible for them to pass through.

Not even a fly can get out.

Lu Jiaojiao trembled with fear, but she still forced herself to maintain the posture she had adopted when she unleashed her power, and roared, "Don't come any closer! I'm lucky! I can kill you all!"

Lu's mother chimed in urgently, "Yes! My granddaughter is so lucky! Let us go!"

She still firmly believes that Lu Jiaojiao's "good fortune" can save everyone, but she doesn't notice the mocking smile on the faces of the Northern Desert cavalry.

The leader of the Northern Desert, a burly man with a full beard, glanced at Lu Jiaojiao with disdain.

He reached out and grabbed her like a chick. Lu Jiaojiao struggled desperately, trying to summon the strange power within her, but no matter how hard she tried, it was no use.

His body didn't react at all; the shockwave that had previously sent people flying didn't even appear in the slightest.

"Good fortune?" The leader scoffed, slapping her hard across the face and throwing her to the ground. "You piece of trash, you dare to talk about good fortune?"
