Chapter 79 Emptying the Second Prince's Belongings (1/2)

Pei Wuwang sat to the side, his gaze towards Shen Qingtang carrying a different kind of warmth.

He had always admired her decisiveness, and seeing her earnestly establishing the rules now stirred something within him.

Their eyes met by chance, and Shen Qingtang inexplicably understood the meaning in his eyes. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she quickly looked away.

After being reprimanded, Xiaoping became much more restrained and ate his meal quietly.

After the meal, Shen Qingtang pulled Pei Wuwang out of the inn, rubbed her temples, and got straight to the point: "Do you have any opinions about Xiaoping?"

Pei Wuwang paused, then said softly, "He is your child, but ultimately it depends on your decision."

"I don't believe it." Shen Qingtang suddenly stepped forward, cornering Pei Wuwang against the wall. The two were so close that their breaths almost mingled. "General Zhenguo is so perceptive on the battlefield that even the scouts' little movements can't escape your notice. How could you not see that Xiaoping was acting strangely? You've seen so many people in the military camp who are just pretending. Didn't you think his obedience just now was a bit too deliberate?"

Her voice carried a hint of probing, and her eyes shone brightly as she stared at Pei Wuwang.

Pei Wuwang was cornered by her, the faint fragrance emanating from her body lingering around his nose.

Her ears turned bright red instantly, even the base of her ears turned pink, and her Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily: "He... is indeed not as innocent as he seems on the surface. When you scolded him at the dinner table just now, there was a fleeting hint of resentment in his eyes, but he hid it quickly."

Hearing him say this, Shen Qingtang's guess was confirmed, but instead of immediately backing away, she moved even closer.

His tone was somewhat teasing: "It seems the general's keen insight has been wasted since it wasn't put to use on the battlefield? You're only telling me now."

Pei Wuwang's face turned even redder, as he could clearly feel the warmth emanating from Shen Qingtang.

Her heart was racing uncontrollably, and her voice was hoarse: "I... I just didn't want to cross the line, after all, he's your child."

The two were very close, and an ambiguous atmosphere filled the air, making even the evening breeze seem gentler.

Shen Qingtang looked at Pei Wuwang's reddened ears and suddenly chuckled, her tone tinged with self-mockery: "Come on, he's not my child."

Pei Wuwang suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with shock.

Just as I was about to ask further questions, Shen Qingtang continued, "I never completely let my guard down with him from the very beginning. When I first met him, I didn't feel even half as close to him as I did to Nian'an. What kind of mother is so distant from her own son?"

She paused, her tone turning serious: "Besides, I already found out that the couple who brought Xiaoping here were murdered the day they left the inn, and their remains were never found. Tell me, if they really were just bringing the child back, why would they be silenced so soon after handing them over?"

Pei Wuwang's eyes widened instantly. After the initial shock, a thoughtful look flashed in his eyes. Clearly, someone was plotting behind this, and Xiaoping was likely a pawn being pushed to the forefront.

Shen Qingtang maintained the posture of cornering him, but as she spoke, she became somewhat absent-minded, her gaze drifting towards the distant night sky, lost in thought.

Pei Wuwang was trapped in a corner by her, his nose filled with her fragrance. His gaze unconsciously fell on her delicate profile. Her eyelashes were long, casting a faint shadow under her eyes when she lowered them. Her lips were slightly pursed because of the conversation just now, with a stubborn curve.

A gentle evening breeze blew by, lifting the stray hairs by her ears and revealing a small patch of her fair neck.

Pei Wuwang's heart skipped a beat, his deep thoughts were disrupted, and his mind was filled with the image of the person in front of him, making him restless.

He could clearly feel the subtle distance between them; her sleeve occasionally brushed against his arm, bringing a slight itch that spread from his skin to his heart.

His Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily, and his voice was even hoarser than before: "So... what do you plan to do next?" As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized that his attention was not fully focused on the question at all.

His gaze couldn't help but linger on Shen Qingtang's face.
