Chapter 43 Evil Soul "The one who should be getting out the most is you..."
The lights in the parking lot all flashed at a high frequency, warning of the final danger in the dungeon.
Overhead, there was a crisscrossing network of pipes, with some cracks visible at the joints of the old water pipes, from which liquid dripped and fell into the sand, mixing with the mud.
Against the backdrop of only the sound of the ventilation system operating, the chaotic footsteps sounded even more cacophonous.
Liang Xun and Gu Keke didn't have time to dodge the icy water falling from the ceiling. They let it flow down their necks and into their clothes, and shivered as they rushed to the sides of the blue-eyed girl.
Only upon closer inspection could one see that the girl's face was completely disfigured.
My left eye was completely bruised, and my eyelid was swollen and bloodshot.
Seeing Liang Xun and Gu Keke on either side of her, the blue-eyed girl's lips twitched a few times.
"It's you again..."
“Save your energy,” Liang Jun interrupted her, her gaze sweeping over her already limp legs. “We’ll support you as you run, just bear with it for a bit.”
After saying that, she exchanged a glance with Gu Keke on the other side, and the two of them tacitly supported the blue-eyed girl's arms, helping her to escape and get away.
Those two legs were so numb that they had almost no feeling left, but dragging them on the ground like that was still somewhat painful.
The blue-eyed girl bit her lip tightly, managing not to make a sound. But a layer of cold sweat seeped from her forehead, falling into the dust at her feet along with the water droplets on the ceiling.
Even so, the two men carrying the wounded could not keep up with the speed of the several nimble men beside them.
When Liang Jun heard Zhang Weiming run past her, she let out a sneer.
She instinctively turned around to look, only to find that the demons were just inches away.
Thick pumpkin juice flowed from the empty eyes, and the shadowy figure almost materialized into limbs, as if it would pounce on them at any moment.
"Coco! Invisibility Cloth!"
A large, slightly shimmering velvet cloth was pulled from Gu Keke's waist. Like a warrior charging into battle, she swung her cloak high, completely enveloping the three of them under the invisibility cloth.
After the velvet came into contact with the player's body, the glitter on it flashed rapidly a few times before completely dimming.
The demons, who were just about to pounce, suddenly froze in place. After searching unsuccessfully, they turned their attention to Zhang Weiming and his group, who were further ahead.
Following Zhang Weiming's instructions, the fleeing office workers kept looking back to observe the situation behind them.
But when he suddenly glanced behind him and saw that there was no one there, and the demon was flying towards him at high speed, his heart stopped for a second.
"Brother Zhang! They're gone!"
"What?!"
Zhang Weiming dared not turn around. The increasingly intense cold air around him confirmed his suspicions.
He grabbed the office worker's yellowed collar and pulled him to his side.
"Where's your invisibility cloak? Use it now!"
The office worker stammered, "I already used the parking space when I was reserving it..."
"Hold!"
Zhang Weiming cursed, then pushed the office worker aside and pulled the man who had been helping him to his side.
He pulled a brand-new invisibility cloth from his pocket and, without saying a word, covered the two of them with it.
The separated office workers and middle-aged men lagged behind them, their eyes filled with helplessness.
Zhang Weiming's furious shout came from nowhere, "Aren't you going to run? Are you just going to stay here and wait to die?!"
The two, reminded of the danger, started running as fast as they could and successfully shook off the pursuing NPC at the turn.
The prey in front of them vanished in an instant. The several hungry demons were bewildered and wandered around in circles, just as they brushed past the three people whose invisibility had only five seconds left.
Gu Keke tried her best to adjust the position of the invisibility cloth, she needed to make sure that the cloth could completely cover the three of them.
Because of this, Liang Jun had to drag the blue-eyed girl along by herself. The girl's entire weight was on her, but fortunately, she had trained well before entering this instance, so Liang Jun wasn't struggling too much.
The disoriented NPCs, unsure of where to find food, briefly chose a direction opposite to the corner of Area B.
Liang Xun seized the opportunity and quickened her pace.
With perfect teamwork, the three of them finally managed to step into the corner of Area B just before the invisibility cloak expired.
Before Gu Keke could put the invisibility cloth back into her storage space, the glitter, which had been silent just moments before, suddenly started flashing again.
She tentatively reached out and grabbed at it, but to her surprise, the transparent invisibility cloth seemed to have vanished completely, and she couldn't grab anything at all.
[Remaining cooldown time: 4 hours and 59 minutes.]
The blue-eyed girl couldn't hold on any longer, and because she was still holding Liang Jun's hand tightly, the two of them ended up sitting on the ground.
Liang Jun felt a throbbing pain in her leg muscles. But she couldn't worry about that now; she could only call out to Gu Keke, who was standing nearby, to help support the blue-eyed girl.
"Quick, let's get to our seats!"
Despite her muscle discomfort, Liang Xun helped the girl up from the ground with Gu Keke, only to hear a loud argument erupting beside them—
"I should be one of those people!" the office worker cried out.
His hoarse, desperate voice made it seem as if he wanted to devour everyone in front of him alive.
“I clearly reserved this parking space,” he said, his eyes bloodshot and his body trembling violently with rage. “I was the one who reminded you to come here, so how can you just refuse to give me the space now?!”
After this farce, the three of them realized that the parking space occupied by the dark green Rubik's Cube only had three usable seats.
But Zhang Weiming and his group clearly numbered four, making it a situation where there were far more monks than porridge.
The time to test human nature has come.
Gu Keke gasped, and then Liang Xuan called her over.
"Hurry up," Liang Jun winked at her, "Stop watching the commotion and let's get back to our parking spaces."
When Liang Jun picked up the intact light purple Rubik's Cube, Zhang Weiming's voice overwhelmingly drowned out the office worker's momentum.
"If I hadn't suggested reserving parking spaces first, would any of you still be alive today?!"
Zhang Weiming's eyes widened in anger, and the muscles on his cheekbones twitched violently. "You lot only know how to use brute force, you don't know how to use your brains at all. If I hadn't been constantly giving you advice, you probably wouldn't even be left with ashes by now!"
"Give us advice?!"
Zhang Weiming's words immediately aroused the dissatisfaction of the man who had framed his wife and daughter.
He sneered, then grabbed Zhang Weiming by the collar without a word. His bulging veins connected his clenched fist; he was like a bloodthirsty monster, dragging Zhang Weiming until he stumbled.
Are you sure you're doing this for us, and not for yourself?
The man's eyes were bloodshot, and he pressed his head against Zhang Weiming's, warning him with his eyes.
"Don't think that we don't know your clumsy ideas." The man pushed Zhang Weiming, who was much weaker than him, away with a little force. "You haven't done anything. You've just been standing behind us, ordering us around like cats and dogs. We've been the ones who've done all the work but haven't gotten any credit."
He spat on the ground, "The one who should get out the most is you."
The argument was mixed with some pushing and shoving, and this farce didn't seem like it would stop anytime soon.
Liang Jun didn't have time to worry about their affairs.
After giving the protective shield a cursory inspection, she put it into her storage space. Then, she and Gu Keke helped the blue-eyed girl to sit in the back row.
After settling the other person in, Liang Jun and Gu Keke returned to the front row and sat down together.
Before pulling the light cord, Liang Xun glanced intentionally or unintentionally toward the chaos.
And it was in that one glance that she made eye contact with one of Zhang Weiming's men.
It was that middle-aged man they had always overlooked.
This dark-skinned, slightly overweight middle-aged man didn't seem to leave any deep impression on them. Within Zhang Weiming's gang, he appeared to be one of the less noticeable members.
Liang Xuan thought for a long time before she could barely recall it.
After meeting Liang Jun's gaze, the uncle's eyes suddenly shifted back, landing on the seats behind them.
They were sitting in a perfect car with a standard five-seater configuration. Currently, only the blue-eyed girl was sitting in the back, so from the outside, the interior space looked quite spacious.
Seeing this, the middle-aged man stammered and ran to their car just before Liang Yan turned on the light.
"Girls, girls, please have pity on me!"
Surprisingly, the middle-aged man actually bowed to them in front of them and said, "You still have empty seats, could you give me one?"
This sudden turn of events left Liang Xun and Gu Keke bewildered. Furthermore, the argument between the three of them came to an end.
The man who was arguing fiercely with Zhang Weiming just a second ago looked at the middle-aged man with a twitching mouth and a somewhat ridiculous expression.
"Old Ren, what are you doing?"
The middle-aged man called Lao Ren ignored them, his hands still tightly clasped in front of his chest, his body seemingly programmed to keep bowing to them.
"Please, please, just give me a seat..." Even the dialogue repeated itself like a program.
Gu Keke clicked her tongue and then looked away.
"No, we won't save him." She refused decisively. "He's in cahoots with Zhang Weiming. We know how bad Zhang Weiming is. If we let him get in our car, who knows if he has good intentions!"
Liang Jun was quite surprised to hear Gu Keke say that.
Gu Keke, who always wanted to save everyone, seems like a completely different person now.
Liang Xun asked in confusion, "You..."
I'm begging you!
The middle-aged man standing in front of them suddenly began to break down. His clenched hands opened wide, his fingers stretching out as if trying to show the people opposite him something.
"I'm just a pig butcher! I'm just a pig butcher at the market!"
The man suddenly burst into tears, crying, "My hands are only covered in pig's blood! I've never touched human blood! Why are you treating me like this?!"
Hearing the uncle's cries, Zhang Weiming, who was a few parking spaces away, also looked rather grim.
"Old Ren, what do you mean by that?"
Old Ren's hysterical questioning still lingered in his ears. He kept fidgeting with his fingers, trying to separate his knuckles a little more, and then a little more.
It seems that this is enough to prove their innocence.
Gu Keke's tough gaze softened slightly.
“He…” Gu Keke coughed twice, “He doesn’t seem to have really done anything bad…”
Indeed, in their impression, this seemingly honest middle-aged man always seemed to follow behind Zhang Weiming, never having carried out any substantial actions, as if he had always been just cannon fodder.
"He was being tracked down, probably just because he was always following Zhang Weiming and got caught in the crossfire."
Gu Keke gently rested her chin on her fingertips, her brows slightly furrowed. "Perhaps it's because the system categorizes 'killing' as evil, completely disregarding whether the other party is killing a human or slaughtering a pig..."
Liang Jun did not answer directly, but turned to look at the back seat.
The blue-eyed girl is still weak, but her attitude towards the two of them has improved considerably.
Seeing the look Liang Jun gave her, she immediately understood, "That man didn't hit me. If he wants to come up, I won't object."
Hearing her say that, Liang Jun nodded.
"Then you can go to the back seat." She gave the middle-aged man outside the car a wink.
Seemingly surprised that the other party would agree, Lao Ren lost his balance and collapsed onto the cement ground.
The hard sand pierced the skin of his palms, but he didn't care at all. He practically scrambled into the back seat and then let out a long sigh of relief.
"Thank you, thank you so much!"
Liang Jun didn't say anything, but instead pulled down the hemp cloth lamp cord hanging above her head with a thud.
The green light has completely turned into a red light.
And so, the deadlock was perfectly resolved in an unexpected way.
The three people who hadn't yet taken their seats all looked somewhat embarrassed.
They had just argued fiercely about who should live and who should die; now they were declared to still be good brothers.
The man who yelled at Zhang Weiming was the most embarrassed.
He rubbed his blood-stained hands back and forth like a helpless fly. The fierce look on his face had long since faded, replaced by that familiar ingratiating smile.
"Brother Zhang, please forgive my past mistake and let me get in the car this time..."

Author's note: I went to a trial swimming lesson today. The coach only taught me how to float in the water, but I can still swim more than ten meters by myself!
It was all done in one breath from beginning to end!
I'm such a swimming genius (hands on hips)
