Chapter 60 Fraud Rules: "The System Deceived Us."
"Carpooling...?"
Gu Keke was almost scared out of her wits by the inhuman-looking thing next to her, and she lost her grip on the steering wheel.
The bumper car couldn't avoid the huge puddle ahead. Its wheels spun at high speed and ran over it, splashing water all over Gu Keke.
Whether it was because the dirty water was too cold, or because there was something chilling sitting next to her, Gu Keke couldn't help but shiver.
"You...you...you..." Her lower teeth clashed against her upper teeth, the cracking sound quite obvious. "Why didn't you go somewhere else..."
The rules mention that carpooling may occur when the passenger flow is extremely high.
Even though all the bumper cars in the area are running, you should be able to find empty spots on other vehicles...
But the little girl smiled sweetly.
She shook her head, and the wildflowers above her head swayed gently with her movements.
"But all the other cars are already full..."
She braced herself on her hands at her sides; her legs were too short, so she could only sway back and forth inside the carriage. "I can only get on your train, is that not allowed?"
Gu Keke looked at Liang Jun with a questioning gaze, but before Liang Jun could answer, the walkie-talkies in front of them both rang simultaneously.
Amidst electromagnetic noise and the sounds of heavy objects colliding, Luo Chuange's urgent voice came through the walkie-talkie.
"We have a new carpooler here, he seems to be a ghost. Do you have one where you are?"
Immediately afterwards, a clear, boyish voice rang out.
"What ghost!" He seemed to slap Luo Chuange on the face. "You wretched adults, you just love to use scary things to frighten us children!"
After a couple of hesitant words on the walkie-talkie, it went silent. Following Luo Chuange's words, Liang Jun subconsciously looked down at her side.
The little girl seemed to notice Liang Jun's gaze and timidly met her eyes.
"Big sister, do you also think I'm a ghost?"
These two children must be working together.
Based on what just happened, they don't seem to like being referred to as a "ghost."
Liang Jun's gaze shifted to the flower on the little girl's head, a faint smile in her eyes.
"How could that be? You're a pretty and cute little girl, how could you possibly be a ghost?"
It seemed that Liang Jun had guessed correctly. After hearing her flattery, the little girl was very happy and covered her mouth, laughing out of embarrassment.
"Hehehe, big sister is so kind to me, I like you so much, big sister~"
Since we're here, let's make the best of it.
Since this is clearly an NPC placed in the game, Liang Jun has no need to shut them out.
After all, the rules also reminded players that there was no need to worry, so she had even less reason to be conflicted.
Liang Jun's hand was slightly cupped, hovering above the little girl's translucent head.
It looked like he was stroking her soft head.
"Since you like me, you should behave and let's finish playing this bumper car game together, okay?"
The little girl smiled brightly and nodded twice, then lowered her head, seemingly groping for something beside her.
Adhering to the principle of "building good relationships with NPCs," Liang Jun thoughtfully stepped forward and asked, "What are you doing?"
"I'm fastening my seatbelt, big sister..."
The little girl's head drooped lower and lower, and her sweet voice became muffled, "The other older girl was driving too fast, I was afraid I'd get hit..."
Then, she actually pulled out two thin elastic bands. The little girl excitedly pulled them apart and fastened them around her lower abdomen.
The little girl blinked her innocent big eyes, and as if on a whim, she grabbed another section of the seatbelt from beside Gu Keke and carefully placed it on her lap.
"Big sister, shouldn't you fasten your seatbelt first? It's not safe otherwise..."
Gu Keke didn't look at her; her gaze remained fixed on the scene before her.
Bumper cars were rampaging everywhere, and she had to control the runaway car under her command. She couldn't let her attention wander for even a moment; even a slight lapse in concentration could cause the car to lose control and shake.
A speeding car was hurtling towards them. Gu Keke jerked the steering wheel sharply, and the car's front tires scraped against the metal wall at the last second. After a screeching sound, they had finally avoided the crisis for the time being.
After this little incident, Gu Keke dared not be distracted.
She never lowered her head, only casually saying thank you, and then raising her voice slightly, "Sister Jun, could you help me fasten my seatbelt?"
It's obviously impractical to personally fasten the seatbelt at this moment—unless everyone in the car is willing to die.
But she didn't have the guts to order the little girl around. Left with no other option, she had to ask Liang Jun, who was sitting one seat away from her, for help.
But Liang Jun's voice came from the side in a deep tone.
"Cannot be tied."
The jolt just now almost caused her to hit the car door again. Liang Jun managed to straighten her slightly misaligned helmet, and while the little girl wasn't paying attention, she moved the seatbelt from her thigh to her buttocks.
"ah?"
Gu Keke, who was still desperately trying to control the direction, was taken aback and wondered if she had misheard. "What did you say, Sister Han?"
Two more bumper cars rushed towards them, and Gu Keke quickly swerved left and right twice, causing the cars to shake violently.
"If we don't wear seatbelts, we'll be thrown out!"
But Liang Jun still repeated, "It can't be tied."
She kept a close eye on the little girl's every move.
After the other person placed the seatbelt on Gu Keke's lap, they didn't make any further movements. Even during their conversation, the little girl seemed not to hear a word, swinging her legs and humming a soft nursery rhyme to herself.
She's a very dedicated NPC. It seems that nothing that's relevant to the little girl will trigger her dialogue or events.
The dark gray seatbelt stood out even more against her semi-transparent body.
"This wasn't originally intended for us."
Seeing that the little girl did not react, Liang Jun continued, "The seat belt is used to restrain ghosts."
Gu Keke was visibly stunned upon hearing this, and the car veered slightly off course.
But her thoughts raced. "Should we remind them? I remember there was a ghost in Luo Chuange's car too!"
After being reminded by Gu Keke, Liang Jun subconsciously looked towards the field.
The dandelion bumper car that was speeding along was very eye-catching, with two deep dents on its door, which were directly imprinted on the spray-painted picture.
Old Ren gripped the steering wheel firmly with both hands, while Luo Chuange's helmet was knocked askew. He was looking down, searching for something with the little boy beside him.
Liang Jun was immediately alarmed and pulled out her walkie-talkie.
"Luo Chuange! Luo Chuange!" she called his name twice anxiously, "Don't fasten that seatbelt!"
The walkie-talkie was very loud, and Liang Xun clearly saw Luo Chuange pause in his movements.
He then paused his interaction with the little boy and glanced at Liang Jun.
"Why? Can't I wear a seatbelt?"
Luo Chuange's puzzled voice came through the walkie-talkie, "Didn't rule number two specifically emphasize that seat belts must be fastened? If we don't do that now, does that mean we're breaking the rules?"
Liang Jun did not answer his question directly, but continued to ask, "Tell me first, are you and Lao Ren still together?"
“No,” Luo Chuange replied quickly, “but the little ghost in our car is…”
"How many times have I told you? I'm not that kind of monster!"
With a "smack," another slap landed.
At this moment, Liang Jun had no time to worry about the troubles on that car, and turned her attention to the owner of the big red flower bumper car.
"Wang Jianping, Qi Zhixia, are you wearing seatbelts?"
Qi Zhixia's calm voice came from the loudspeaker, "No, we haven't noticed that there are seat belts in the car."
She first glanced at Wang Jianping driving, then straightened her helmet. "Not only that, but we didn't see any of the 'ghosts' you mentioned in our car."
All six of them were using the same channel on their walkie-talkies. Therefore, Wang Jianping and Qi Zhixia were able to hear all the conversations between Liang Jun and Luo Chuange.
Liang Jun's eyes swept across the entire venue, and she vaguely caught sight of the big red flower bumper car squeezed to the edge.
“You also have a wheelchair in your car,” she said urgently. “A car is limited to three people, and the wheelchair takes up the third seat, so Ghost can’t share a ride with you.”
She quickly resolved all the doubts and then returned the topic to the beginning.
"Don't wear seatbelts! Those are for restraining ghosts. We're human; they're not for us!"
The voice on the walkie-talkie was clearly audible. After hearing the other party say it so bluntly, Luo Chuange reflexively lowered his eyes and glanced at the little boy sitting next to him.
The ghost child had just slapped himself a second ago to rebuke his name; the next second he was sitting obediently in the same spot, as if nothing had happened.
Luo Chuange appeared very calm, pretending that everything was normal, and quietly tossed the end of the seatbelt rope aside.
"The rule that relates to seat belts is not the second rule, but the sixth rule."
Liang Jun gripped the edge of the car door tightly with one hand, trying to stay as far away as possible from the little girl humming a nursery rhyme. "Seat belts are objects that restrict our movement, we can't use them! And these ghosts are obviously tempting us to use them."
Qi Zhixia's slightly hesitant voice came through, "But the second one..."
"I ask you, are seat belts considered a type of safety equipment?"
Liang Jun suddenly asked a question, and both ends of the walkie-talkie fell silent.
"It belongs to you, right?"
She pressed on, "If that's the case, why did the system single out 'fasten your seatbelt'? Does that seem like a basic mistake on the part of the system?"
Qi Zhixia remained silent for a long time on the other end of the walkie-talkie.
"Then how can you be sure that rule six can overturn rule two?"
"Look at the last rule."
Gu Keke suddenly swerved, and Liang Xun's helmeted head slammed into the front desk, making her see stars.
She shook her head to clear her mind.
"The last rule is the general rule for amusement parks, which is an unshakeable premise. If we extrapolate from this, it is highly likely that the later rule will have a higher weight than the rules that precede it."
Liang Jun paused for a moment, then said, "The system lied to us."
The bumper car ran over another puddle.
There seemed to be a sharp object in the puddle, and Liang Jun's whole body was suddenly jolted, falling uncontrollably towards the empty space in the middle.
The walkie-talkie fell to the ground, and Liang Jun pounced on the little girl.
But the little girl didn't notice her at all. The other girl was still staring blankly ahead, humming a soft lullaby.
Her semi-transparent medium had no physical substance at all; Liang Jun lay directly on the seat, passing through her so-called body.
In that instant, Liang Xun felt a chill envelop her entire body. Just as she was about to get up, the music in her ears suddenly amplified.
So familiar...
The little girl's humming tune sounds so familiar...
Before she could think of anything else, a sudden, violent impact pulled Liang Jun's consciousness completely into darkness.
