infrared camera

infrared camera

When a cat cries, the person is about to die.

The older generation said that after death, a breath of air remains in the throat, which is then consumed after seven days. During these seven days, black cats must not be allowed to come into contact with the deceased, or they will rise from the corpse and become a cat-like monster known as a "crying cat corpse."

"Where did you get this information?" Ye Jing'an took Qiu Zimu's mobile phone and introduced it to the crying cat corpse.

The 300-plus pages of documents also recorded many other monsters. There were no photos, just descriptions. He hadn't seen any of them, but the records were all quite old, so he didn't know if they were true or not.

Qiu Zimu told him that the Qiu family had always recorded the monsters they encountered in a small notebook and passed it down to future generations, along with instructions on how to deal with them. This electronic file was compiled later for easy reference.

"Is your information reliable? Why haven't I seen any of it?" Ye Jing'an questioned.

"I haven't seen it either, but it must be reliable!" Qiu Zimu never doubted the authenticity of this information. He just thought that there were fewer monsters in modern society.

Ye Jingan nodded and asked, "So there really is a monster, and that thing in the village is a crying cat corpse?"

"I'm not sure now, but from what Auntie described, it should be this." Qiu Zimu took back his phone and flipped through it again to see if there was any monster that looked more like the description.

"Then you must have a way to deal with it, right?" Ye Jing'an asked.

"Uh... no, the information says that I need to use witchcraft, but I haven't learned it yet." Qiu Zimu smiled awkwardly.

"Then what are you talking about? You're so happy for nothing." Ye Jing'an rolled his eyes. "Hey, cats always meow, don't they cry?"

"It's true. I've heard of it." Qiu Zimu said.

Ye Jingan was addicted to listening to ghost stories and asked for an elaborate account.

Qiu Zimu recalled the horrifying experience and said slowly, "My grandmother was ill and hospitalized. The night before she passed away, my father asked me to take care of her. I was very sleepy, so I fell asleep beside her bed. Around one in the morning, I was woken by the sound of a cat meowing, and this sound was different from other cats."

Qiu Zimu didn't know how to describe the cat's crying sound to Ye Jingan, so he just imitated it.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahaha... Which cat is like you!" Ye Jing'an saw that he was imitating like a bear.

"Believe it or not!" Qiu Zimu rolled his eyes and said nothing more.

"Xin Xin Xin, please continue." Ye Jing'an pursed his lips to suppress his smile.

"Later, I chased it away, but it would come back and cry at the door of my grandma's ward. I couldn't chase it away, and I couldn't sleep because of the noise, so I sat aside and played with my phone. Two hours later, the cat finally stopped crying. But my grandma suddenly called my father's name, her tone very panicked. I went over to comfort her, and she pointed to the stone pillar next to the hospital gate outside the window and said there were two people standing on it..."

Qiu Zimu felt the hairs on his body rise at the mention of these two people. It wouldn't be a big deal if it were daytime, but in the dark of night, the mere mention of someone standing on a three-meter-high stone pillar was terrifying. Who would stand on a three-meter-high pillar in the middle of the night?!

"I was still young at the time, so I went to look, but there was nothing there. However, my grandmother kept shouting that someone was there. I tried to calm her down, but I actually saw two blurry shadows on the pillar through her pupils. I was so scared that I called my dad right away. When he came, my grandmother had stopped shouting, and she passed away the next day."

"My condolences." Ye Jing'an rested his hands on the table and stroked his chin. "Are those two the Black and White Impermanence?"

Qiu Zimu shrugged and spread his hands, saying, "I don't know. My dad uses all kinds of excuses to brush me off, but he just won't tell me."

"..." Ye Jing'an asked, "What should we do if we encounter this monster?"

"Your family is in this business, and you're asking me?" Qiu Zimu sneered, "Ye Han Fei, you're pretty powerful, aren't you? Just chop it down with two swords."

"Who are you calling a gangster? You're a sorcerer!" Ye Jing'an raised his knee and kicked him.

Come to think of it, I have learned so many methods of catching ghosts and eliminating monsters at home, so even if I encounter a real monster, it shouldn’t be difficult to deal with it.

Ye Jingan raised his chin confidently and said, "Get some sleep first, and then go find out where it's hiding tomorrow."

The next morning, Ye Jing'an and Qiu Zimu were awakened by the smell of food. Aunt Li had cooked noodles and fried several kinds of pork to go with them.

"Good morning, Auntie!" Ye Jing'an and Qiu Zimu said with a smile.

"Good morning, have breakfast quickly." Aunt Li handed the fried eggs to them.

The taste of these noodles was comparable to the noodles from Qiu Zimu's family. Ye Jing'an found that the people here were very good at cooking. They also pickled various sauerkraut themselves, which was very much to his liking. Ye Jing'an chatted with Aunt Li while eating: "Auntie, how long ago did the police come?"

Aunt Li thought for a moment and said, "Half a month ago."

"Did they remove the infrared camera?" Ye Jing'an asked again.

"It seems not. They said if we keep it for a while, we might be able to capture other things," said Aunt Li.

Ye Jingan was curious to see if he had captured anything. He had to first confirm what it was. If it turned out to be a nationally protected animal, he couldn't do anything rash. Besides, if it was indeed a nationally protected animal that injured someone, it would be more convenient to contact the Forestry Bureau directly to come and deal with it, saving them from having to do it themselves.

"Lao Qiu, after dinner, let's go find these infrared cameras, take out the cards and see if they have captured anything?" Ye Jing'an said.

"Okay, let's catch some bugs on the way." Qiu Zimu said with a smile.

It was foggy early in the morning, but after dinner the sun came out and the fog slowly dissipated. The weather was great, and once the dew dried, many insects would come out and move around. Qiu Zimu prepared his collection tools and couldn't wait to call Ye Jing'an to set off.

Fortunately, the location information of the infrared camera is noted in each video. The five points are a bit far apart, but I should be able to get the card before dinner and come back to eat.

Aunt Li was afraid that the two would be hungry, so she stuffed a lot of dry food into their bags. The two planned their route and headed towards the mountains.

Qiu Zimu swept two nets over the weeds by the roadside. The nets were covered with dew, but there were no good insects. He poked Ye Jingan and said, "Let's hurry on. There aren't many insects yet."

"Okay." After walking for about two hours, they came from the previous path into a pine forest with a relatively open view. There were not many weeds on the ground, but it was covered with withered and yellow pine needles.

"The first point is nearby. It's probably tied to a tree. Look carefully." Ye Jing'an said.

The two of them split up and searched, not going too far to ensure they could see each other. Getting lost in the mountains would be a hassle, but the key was that they had already confirmed there were bears, and there might be other dangerous wild animals or monsters. At least if they stayed together, they could keep an eye on each other.

"Holy crap, this is some good stuff!" Qiu Zimu squatted on the ground and beckoned Ye Jing'an over. He picked up an orange-yellow mushroom growing from under the pine needles and said, "Lactarius pine mushrooms are so delicious when fried with meat! There should be more around here. Let's find some and stir-fry them."

"Are you sure? Is this thing edible? Don't let me get poisoned!" Ye Jing'an asked doubtfully.

"Sure, sure. I eat it often back home, so it can't be wrong." Qiu Zimu took out a cloth bag, padded the bottom with some pine needles, and carefully placed the milk mushrooms into the bag. "It just so happens that we can pick mushrooms while looking for the infrared camera. Hurry, hurry, get to work!"

Ye Jing'an turned around doubtfully and looked carefully at the ground. Not far away, he actually saw a mushroom half-covered by pine needles. He picked it up and sniffed it. It had a strong mushroom aroma. He pinched it with his fingernails and crushed it. An orange-yellow oil squeezed out, making the mushroom smell even more fragrant. If this thing wasn't poisonous, it should be quite delicious. After all, it smelled delicious even when it was raw.

The milk mushrooms grow particularly well in this forest. If you look carefully, you will find two or three every few meters. If you are lucky, there may be more than ten in one place.

The two of them walked and stopped, and soon they had picked up a large bag, estimated to be more than a pound. Qiu Zimu looked at the pine milk mushrooms in the bag and nodded with satisfaction. It was no problem to cook a hot pot with them. Then he could go to Aunt Li's vegetable garden in front of the house to pick some fresh vegetables for the hot pot. It would be so delicious!

"Have you found the infrared camera?" Ye Jing'an asked.

"Uh... I forgot and just went to look at the mushrooms on the ground." Qiu Zimu smiled awkwardly and said, "Did you look for them?"

"No, I don't pick more mushrooms than you do?" Ye Jing'an said.

"Let's get down to business, otherwise we won't be able to get back before dark and won't be able to eat the hot pot. These milk mushrooms are covered in mud and it takes a lot of time to wash them. If they are not washed clean, they will bite into the sand and won't taste good." Qiu Zimu said.

"Then find them quickly. We can go back early to wash them and fry them." After Ye Jingan said this, he turned around and saw another mushroom on the ground.

When can I find this infrared camera?!

Qiu Zimu quickly glanced at the pine tree trunk he'd passed by while picking mushrooms. He didn't see anything tied to it, so it must still be in the woods ahead. He was itching to pick up more mushrooms, so he could make some mushroom oil to eat.

He kept an eye on the tree trunks as he picked them up. When he was about to reach a downhill slope, he saw a military green square box tied to a tree trunk in the distance. Qiu Zimu shouted, "Ye Jingan, come here quickly! I think I saw an infrared camera!"

"Where?" Ye Jing'an walked over with a bag of mushrooms.

"You... are so awesome!" Qiu Zimu exclaimed.

"I saw it, that's it." Ye Jing'an took out the card and put it in his pocket, then took out his phone to check the next point and said, "Keep going forward."

"You're not going to pick it?" Qiu Zimu teased.

"We can't take it anymore. If you like it, bring a big basket tomorrow." Ye Jing'an said.

There was a small trail down the mountain through this pine forest. There were fewer fallen pine needles than in other places, which seemed to be a clearing of the path down the mountain. Following the trail down to the saddle, I found the second infrared camera.

The forest further into the mountain was dense, but fortunately, there were people clearing the way ahead. Ye Jing'an and Qiu Zimu guessed that this was the path the police had taken to set up the infrared cameras. They estimated that the infrared cameras were all set up along this path. The two of them paid attention to the trees on both sides. After walking for a few more hours, they found both infrared cameras.

This last infrared camera is placed next to a small stream. There is no sound of flowing water here, so I guess we have to cross the mountain to get to it.
