On the high-speed train, Ye Jingan sat next to two boys who were about his age. When he sat down, the two boys were chatting in low voices.
"Did you know that another person died in Wangqi'ao?"
"Another death, it must be caused by those wizards."
Ye Jing'an glanced at the address. Wasn't Qiu Zimu's home in Wangqi'ao? He remembered a time when he and Qiu Zimu had a fight as children and had their parents called in. Only then did he realize that his father knew Qiu Zimu's father. Their family was a wizard who could practice Gu, so he asked, "Brother, can you tell me more about how wizards harm people?"
The boy in blue said, "My grandma told me that there are many wizards living in Wanghu'ao who specialize in harming people for money. You should stay away from them. You can't offend them, or you will die without knowing how."
The boy who was traveling with us said, "Yes, yes, fortunately our home is not far from Wushan."
The two chatted back and forth. Ye Jingan wondered if something had happened to Qiu Zimu's family. How could such kind people in their family harm others? There must be some misunderstanding.
He had originally planned to have lunch after getting off the high-speed train, but why would he eat after something like this happened? He might as well go straight to Qiu Zimu to ask him clearly. Maybe he had encountered some trouble and needed help.
After exiting the station, Ye Jingan used his phone to hail a taxi, but no one took his order. He then went to the high-speed rail station entrance to hail a taxi, but two taxis refused to come. He wondered, "What's going on? No one's doing business?"
A motorcycle taxi driver saw that he looked like he needed a taxi and drove up to ask him where he was going. When Ye Jingan said he was going to Wanghuiao, the driver looked at him with a strange look and said, "Get in the car." He noticed the driver's strange look and asked, "Master, is there something wrong in Wanghuiao?"
"Are you going to Wanghu'ao to look for someone?" the driver asked.
"Well, find a friend." Ye Jing'an said.
The driver was a kindhearted man. Seeing that he was from out of town, he warned him, "Wanghu'ao has changed a lot recently. Several people have died in a row. Locals should avoid going there if possible. You, a young man from out of town, should be careful."
"Why did someone die?" Ye Jing'an frowned.
The driver shook his head and said, "I don't know. I heard that witches harm people."
Ye Jing'an continued to ask several questions, but the driver didn't say anything more. He just dropped him off and drove away.
There are many families living in the valley here. Unlike the buildings in the city, most of the houses in Wangqi'ao are home-built, and some are even wooden. These days, all the buildings are made of concrete, so it's not easy to see a wooden house.
Ye Jing'an asked several people, and they all said they didn't know Qiu Zimu. There was not even anyone here with the surname Qiu.
"Could it be that they found the wrong place or moved?" After thinking carefully, what could be moved from Qiu Zimu's hometown? He asked an older uncle.
"Here, walk three kilometers along this road and you will see a village. The person you are looking for may be there." The uncle gestured to him how to get there.
"Thank you!" Ye Jing'an walked along the road, surrounded by mountains. If it weren't for the uncle pointing the way, he would have turned around and walked away. The place ahead looked like it might be inhabited.
An hour later, after turning a wide bend, they finally spotted a house in the valley. Ye Jing'an excitedly walked over and saw an elderly woman resting by the kilometer. Her attire was quite unique: a dark blue cloth embroidered with intricate patterns. The black turban she wore on her head was perhaps half a meter tall.
Ye Jing'an felt that it was heavy on his head, and judging by her attire, she must be from an ethnic minority. After some thought, he couldn't recall any ethnic group dressing that way. Without giving it much thought, he walked over and asked her which house was Qiu Zimu's.
The old lady was quite enthusiastic and talked a lot.
Ye Jingan didn't understand a word she said, so he interrupted her and said, "Grandma, I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are saying."
The old lady continued to talk to him while gesturing with her hands.
Ye Jingan: “…”
After thanking the old lady, he asked a younger woman for directions. She also spoke in a language he couldn't understand, but he understood the sign language and continued walking in the direction the woman pointed. Remembering Qiu Zimu's words about living deep in the mountains, Ye Jing'an looked up and saw seven or eight hills ahead. Which one was it?
Ye Jing'an walked aimlessly in the direction the aunt pointed. A young man came down the mountain. Ye Jing'an asked him, "Hello, I'd like to ask where the forest farm in Wangqi'ao is."
"This area is all forest farm." The young man could speak Mandarin and gestured in a big circle with his hands.
"Ah~ This is all..." Ye Jing'an forced a smile, "Do you know Qiu Zimu?"
The young man shook his head and said that he had just returned from college and was not familiar with this place.
"Thank you." Ye Jingan breathed out several words in one breath. Those who knew the place couldn't understand what they were saying, and those who could understand what they were saying didn't know the place.
Ye Jing'an narrowed his eyes and muttered to himself: He didn't have WeChat or anything when he was a kid, and now his phone number has changed, so I can't get in touch with him. The address given said it was next to a large ginkgo tree deep in the Wangqi'ao Forest Farm. It was very obvious and could be seen at a glance.
"Obvious bullshit!" Ye Jing'an wandered around aimlessly. He could ask his dad for his contact information, or ask for the exact address again, but calling him would only let him know he hadn't followed the map. That way, he'd have a plan for his first adult spanking.
Ye Jingan's stomach growled, and he regretted it so much. If he had known it would be so difficult to find, he would have eaten first. There were no restaurants or anything in the surrounding wilderness. He rubbed his stomach and continued looking.
The further we went, the fewer houses there were. After climbing for a long time, I thought I had reached the top of the first hill, but I found that there was still a long mountain road ahead and I had no idea where it led.
He stopped walking. He hadn't even eaten yet, so how could he have the energy to walk again? Another reason was that he'd caught a glimpse of a man following him closely. He wasn't sure if they were going the same way, or if they had some other purpose, so he decided to stop and take a look.
The man was dressed in black with some strange chains hanging from his clothes. He had a scar on his face and was looking up at him with cat-like eyes. Although it is said that you should not judge a person by his appearance, Ye Jingan still felt that he was not a good person. The man walked over with a sinister smile: "I heard that you are looking for Qiu Zimu?"
Ye Jing'an nodded slightly and looked at him warily.
"What's your name and who are you to him?" the man asked again.
"Who are you to him?" Ye Jing'an's intuition told him that this man was not a good person and was hostile.
"I'm his relative, and he lives over there." The man pointed to the hill in front, sneered, and left.
He left now? He came all this way just to tell Qiu Zimu that he lived up there? Ye Jing'an ignored him and walked up the mountain.
The man returned home, looked at the hair in his hand, snorted coldly and said, "I was worried that I couldn't find someone, and now someone is delivered to my door."
He wrapped the hair in a piece of red paper covered with dense black runes, set it on fire, and placed it in a porcelain bowl to burn, muttering something. After it was completely burned to black ash, the man used the ash to draw a strange symbol in the bowl and then threw the bowl to the ground.
Ye Jingan, who had just climbed the mountain, saw a small ravine and, for some reason, wanted to go over and take a look. The water in the ravine was not deep, just enough to cover his knees. He lowered his head to look into the water and saw a crab as big as a fist waving its claws at him.
"Wow, it's big enough for a good meal, and I just haven't eaten yet! I'll take it to Lao Qiu's house and stew it for dinner." Ye Jing'an had just reached into the water when he felt someone pull him up from under the surface. He didn't squat steadily and his head fell into the water. Just as he was about to get up, someone behind him seemed to be holding his head down in the water. He reached out to sweep his hands back, but no one was holding him down.
Ye Jingan would keep his eyes tightly closed in the water, fearing that the water would sting his eyes. But in this situation, he had to see what it was, so he had to open his eyes.
But the scene before him frightened him so much that he choked on two large mouthfuls of water. There was no giant crab in the water, but rather a pale woman's face, smiling at him. The pupils of her eyes were dilated, clearly the face of a dead person.
Ye Jingan saw clearly that he was entangled in her long hair, so he couldn't move. He punched the woman in the face, but his hand went through her face and hit the stone.
Ye Jingan began to wonder if there was water in his eyes or brain, causing him to hallucinate. He struggled frantically, but was entangled tightly and could not get up.
Liu Muze sighed. He had been following Ye Jing'an since he left the house. He knew the brat had a natural calamity, but he hadn't expected someone to plot against him so soon after he left, and it was a life-threatening one. Just as he was about to pull Ye Jing'an back, he heard someone coming down the side path.
Qiu Zimu was chatting with his uncle when he turned a corner and saw a man struggling in a ditch. He ran over to pull him out, but couldn't. His uncle knew he was under a spell and immediately pulled out a talisman. After mumbling something, he slapped the man on the back of the head.
Ye Jing'an felt the force disappear and raised his head from the ditch. His brain suddenly became congested with blood, and he felt dizzy. He fell to the ground, coughing out the water that had choked him, and gasped for air.
"Huh?" Qiu Zimu was stunned. "Why is it you?"
Ye Jing'an came to his senses and felt relieved when he saw Qiu Zimu's familiar face. Then he thought of the woman's face just now, and hurriedly told him what he had encountered and pulled him to see the female ghost.
Qiu Zimu looked over and saw a lot of hair algae growing in the water, which really looked like women's hair. The pebbles at the bottom of the water were very small and white.
From a distance, one might think it was a woman with long hair in the water. But Ye Jingan was very close, so he shouldn't have mistaken it for a woman's face.
Ye Jingan was stunned. The woman's face was gone. He reached out and picked up something that looked like a strand of black hair and asked, "What is this?"
"It's hair algae, it's still edible." Qiu Zimu said with a smile, "You're not crazy, are you seeing things?"
"..." Ye Jing'an himself really thought that his brain was flooded with water and he was hallucinating. But Qiu Zimu's tone sounded like he was scolding him. Ye Jing'an asked again, "Then why couldn't I move just now?"
Qiu Zimu saw what his uncle had just done and guessed that Ye Jing'an was possessed by an evil spirit. However, he had only learned how to control poisonous insects, not witchcraft, so he didn't know what kind of evil spirit it was.
Qiu Zimu's second uncle said with a cold face: "It's a substitute."
Ye Jingan wiped the water off his hair, rubbed his eyes and asked what a substitute was.
