Resurrection
"Let's get some fresh air." Ye Jing'an said.
"When did you come out of the room?" Liu Muzhe asked.
"Brother Liu left as soon as I came out." Ye Jing'an chuckled and said, "Why does Brother Liu care about the time I came out? Is there something shameful in the room that he's afraid I'll find?"
"What kind of shameful thing could there be?" Liu Muzhe said nonchalantly.
"Oh, then I'll go look for it." Ye Jing'an turned around and jumped onto the rooftop.
"You are not allowed to go." Liu Muzhe said.
"It seems that there really is one. Then I must go and see it!" Ye Jing'an ran downstairs with a strange smile.
Liu Muze grabbed Ye Jing'an with one hand and pressed him to the corridor, his face sullen: "I said, you are not allowed to go!"
"Brother Liu, this is an orphanage. It wouldn't be nice if the kids saw you doing this." Ye Jing'an pointed at the hand on his shoulder. "Oh, if you don't want to see it, then don't. Why are you so angry?"
Liu Muzhe snorted coldly, let go of him and walked downstairs quickly.
Ye Jingan had always thought that her ancestor was a gentle, cold, serious, and temperless immortal. Now she knows that her ancestor has a temper, gets angry at the slightest provocation, and is difficult to coax. A true tsundere ancestor!
As Ye Jingan continued to chase after him, he sometimes felt that he was not normal. He especially liked to see Brother Liu blushing and angry. He would provoke him, then try to coax him, but sometimes he couldn't coax him well...
"What are you always looking at? What do you want to do?" Liu Muzhe asked.
"Can't you see it? Is there any top-secret document printed on your face?" Ye Jing'an retorted.
Liu Muzhe rolled his eyes at him and went to push the child on the swing.
After sending the adopted children to their new home, Mother Liu bought some local specialty snacks and brought Liu Muze and the others to the living room. She said with a smile, "Xiao Liu, this is your favorite pickled duck. Xiao Ye and Xiao Qiu should try it too. If you like it, take some back. Auntie bought a lot."
"Thank you, Mother Liu. What happened?" Liu Muzhe asked.
Mother Liu was silent, not knowing how to begin. She pulled out her phone and showed Liu Muze a group photo of all the children in the orphanage, taken a few years ago. Half of the children in the photo were rescued by Liu Muze, and he knew almost all of them.
Mother Liu pointed to a little boy in sky blue clothes and told Liu Muzhe that not long after the photo was taken, he was adopted by an old lady from a wealthy family.
Liu Muze knew this child, Wu Yao. He wasn't one of the kids he'd rescued from the drug dealers. He was cheerful and bright, and very sensible. Whenever Liu Muze visited them, Wu Yao would always rush out to help him carry his things. When the other kids got into a fight, Wu Yao would be the first to intervene.
Liu Muze was impressed by the child and felt that he had the talent to enter this industry. He even gave him a book. Liu Muze asked Liu's mother: "What's wrong with this child?"
Mother Liu told him that not long ago, when Chen Chen went out to the bathroom at night, he saw Wu Yao coming back, but his body was transparent, so he could see but not touch.
Wu Yao said that he envied them for being able to live happily in the orphanage, and then he disappeared out of thin air. Chen Chen looked for him throughout the yard but couldn't find him. He went to look for him for several nights in a row but never saw him again.
The next day, Liu's mother contacted Mrs. Zhang, the woman who had adopted Wu Yao. It was her nanny who answered the phone, saying Wu Yao had accidentally drowned while out playing and was still unconscious in the hospital. Liu's mother wanted to go see the child, but was refused, saying Wu Yao was in poor health and needed rest and could not be disturbed.
"Chen Chen is a special child, as you know. I was afraid that Wu Yaozhen might encounter some danger, so I asked you to come and take a look." Mother Liu explained.
"They're still unconscious... How could this happen? And even if such a young child died from drowning, they shouldn't have accumulated resentment and turned into a spirit. There must be something wrong." Liu Muzhe pondered for a moment, his expression becoming serious. "Mom Liu, can you bring Chen Chen over? I want to ask him something."
Mother Liu nodded.
When Chen Chen was brought over, he was crunching potato chips and holding a plastic toy sword tightly in his hand.
"Chen Chen, why did you choose this sword as a toy?" Liu Muzhe asked softly.
"Brother Wu Yao seems very sad. He must have been bullied by others! With this sword, I can also use the sword to protect others and myself like Brother Liu, and save Brother Wu Yao from the bad guys." Chen Chen said.
"Yes, you are very brave and you still want to protect others. Then can you tell me what Wu Yao looked like when you saw him?" Liu Muzhe asked.
Chen Chen told him that he looked exactly like Wu Yao, except that his body was translucent, emitting a faint white light, and he seemed to float when he walked.
"Then did you see any water marks on the road where he walked, or water dripping from his body? Or was he injured anywhere on his body?" Liu Muzhe asked again.
Chen Chen shook his head and said, "Brother Wu Yao is just the same as when he left, except that he changed his clothes and looks very handsome."
"Okay, I got it. Go and have fun. Next time you see Brother Wu Yao, don't talk to him too much. Just walk away quietly and run to tell Mother Liu. Remember?" Liu Muzhe said softly.
"Remember, Brother Liu, you must help him!" Chen Chen said.
Liu Muzhe smiled and nodded.
"Brother Liu will always protect us, right?" Chen Chen asked expectantly.
"Of course, no one will hurt you anymore, don't be afraid. If you see something that scares you or feel uncomfortable anywhere, you must tell Mother Liu. Don't bear it yourself. Remember?" Liu Muzhe touched Chen Chen's little head, "Go play."
Chen Chen nodded and ran out.
Liu Muzhe told Ye Jing'an and Qiu Zimu about what happened to Chen Chen.
Chen Chen's constitution was extremely yin, making him prone to seeing ghosts. When he was taken away for drug testing, he often saw vengeful spirits, which frightened him so much that he ran around screaming and running around, and each time he was beaten half to death.
Once, he saw an evil ghost lying on the shoulder of the boss of a pharmaceutical factory, sucking his energy bit by bit. Chen Chen told him that there was a person on his shoulder and he was almost beaten to death.
Later, Chen Chen discovered that although those ghosts looked scary, they had never hurt him. Instead, it was people like him who always beat him up and even wanted to kill him.
Chen Chen was no longer afraid of ghosts, but he was now terrified of being beaten. Originally cheerful and lively, he became withdrawn and silent, spending his days huddled in a corner. It wasn't until he was rescued by Liu Muze and sent to an orphanage, where he received guidance, that he slowly recovered and became cheerful again.
"They are beasts! Brother Liu, did you beat them up?" Ye Jing'an said angrily.
"I didn't beat them because I didn't want to get my hands dirty." Liu Muzhe said with a smile, "I let them fight each other and I watched from the side."
"Okay, next time something like this happens, take me with you and I'll go beat them up!" Ye Jingan said.
"And me, I'll put the bugs to bite." Qiu Zimu agreed.
Brother Liu told Mother Liu that Wu Yao was likely murdered, but it was not certain. Liu Muze asked her to look for information about Wu Yao's adoptive parents to see if she could find anything.
When Mother Liu heard that Wu Yao had been murdered, she covered her mouth and began to cry. She loved children, but she was infertile and had never married. She had spent half her life in this orphanage, caring for these lonely children and had long regarded them as her own. Wu Yao was the most sensible one she had ever met.
When Wu Yao was taken away by this wealthy family, she was happy from the bottom of her heart. This sensible child could finally live a normal life and have loving parents and grandparents. But who could have thought that this would harm him instead.
Liu Muzhe comforted Mother Liu and told her not to be sad yet, as things might turn around and Wu Yao might not be dead yet, he just needed help.
Mother Liu nodded and placed the file containing the adoption documents and the adopter's information on the table. She said, "All the information is in there. See if you can find anything."
Liu Muzhe ignored the complicated documents such as ID cards and household registration books, found the adoptive family profile and the reason for adoption, and only took out these few pieces of paper.
Wu Yao was adopted by a 62-year-old woman named Zhang Guifen. She came from a wealthy family: she was a retired director of a city hospital, and her husband was the president of a restaurant chain. They owned three large villas and two commercial properties, both inland and on the coast. They had only one son, a successful and happily married woman who had given them a lovely grandson.
"This family is quite wealthy. They already have a grandson, so why are they thinking of adopting another one? Can biological and adopted children coexist peacefully?" Ye Jing'an said.
"Her grandson is dead." Liu Muzhe handed the adoption reason to Ye Jing'an.
Zhang Guifen took her grandson out to play on the weekend. Due to a moment of negligence, her little grandson ran onto the road and was hit and killed by a truck. Her son and daughter-in-law blamed her and their interactions with her became less frequent.
Zhang Guifen likes children, but her house is too big for her and her husband to live in. They feel lonely without a child around to make noise, so she wants to adopt a child to keep them company.
"Could she be trying to revive herself and save her grandson?" Qiu Zimu asked doubtfully.
"It's very likely. Let's go and take a look. If it's true, there will be a strong negative energy in the house." Liu Muzhe pointed at the home address on the information.
Several people followed the address Zhang Guifen provided to her home. Although the information said it was a villa, upon arrival, it was actually a large manor, magnificent, solemn and majestic. The location was also very good, nestled in the mountains and by the water, with no other buildings around. It was estimated that the entire mountain belonged to her family.
Liu Muze rang the doorbell, and a housekeeper came to open the door. After looking at the people, he asked, "Excuse me, what can I do for you?"
"Hello, I'm the director of the orphanage. I heard that Wu Yao drowned, so I came to see him." Liu Muzhe showed him the ID saved in his phone.
"Huiguang Orphanage?" The housekeeper looked puzzled. "My young master did drown some time ago, but his name is not Wu Yao, and he was not adopted from Huiguang Orphanage. Perhaps you have made a mistake."
Liu Muze paused, took back his phone, looked at his ID, and after flipping through it for a while, he said, "I'm sorry, I own many orphanages. Please take another look."
