Chapter 101 You're not my husband?! (12) "I'm my brother..."
Fu Li reached out a hand and gently stroked Alpha's cheek, lingering on a small mole on it—the same mole was in the same spot on Luo Ran's face, which made him even more certain: the person in front of him was Luo Ran, his former lover.
The young man's gaze was gentle as water, yet his eyes shone brightly like burning torches. The corners of his eyes and the corners of his mouth turned up, and his smile was as bright as the sun.
Luo Ze stared at Beta's face, feeling the unexpected warmth on his cheek. His thoughts were momentarily confused. Fu Li's smile, full of tolerance and love, was reflected in his dark pupils, and his heart skipped a beat.
He opened his mouth, but swallowed back the words he was about to say.
A few minutes later, Loze and his bodyguards went down to the underground parking garage.
His expression remained as cool and calm as ever, but there was a strange sense of bewilderment in his eyes, and even his gait had a strange stiffness, as if his thoughts were swirling in a chaotic mess.
Lin Xi, acting as his bodyguard, walked a short distance behind him. He had overheard Fu Li and Luo Ze's conversation, and considering that the Beta youth had called him "A Ran" more than once, Lin Xi realized that the lover in his heart was not his boss, but the second young master who had left ten years ago, Luo Ran.
Fu Li mistook Luo Ze for someone else, misunderstanding that Luo Ze had lost his memory and forgotten her. However, Luo Ze did not seem to intend to tell her the truth.
Only after getting into the car, which silently started and drove out of the garage, did Lin Xi finally unable to hold back any longer and silently ask, "Young Master, why didn't you tell him the truth?"
Through the rearview mirror, he clearly saw Luo Ze's furrowed brows, his cold eyes radiating boundless sharpness, and heard him say coldly:
"Shut up. Just do your job."
His gaze flickered for a moment, then he said, "Starting tomorrow, you will follow him. No matter where he goes or what he does, you must report to me immediately."
He paused, then added, "Also, tell the people in the house to watch their mouths and not to say things they shouldn't say to him."
"This is also what my mother wanted."
Finally, Luo Ze attributed the reason for concealing the truth about Fu Li to his mother's orders.
Since the boss had given the order, Lin Xi, as a retainer of the Luo family, had no choice but to obey. He silently lowered his eyes and said nothing more.
As the car drove out of the mountain resort, looking back into the distance, one could see a majestic castle standing tall in the forest. But no one knew that an innocent person was trapped inside by lies, like the Little Prince who had no one to rescue him, not knowing when his knight would arrive.
---
From that moment on, Fu Li became convinced that Luo Ze was her lover who had been missing for six months, but had lost his memories of him due to the car accident. Her immediate priority was to make him remember the past, or... fall in love with her again.
So he spent a day devising a "battle plan." Leaning on his cane, he went around grabbing the servants in the castle, asking them about Loze's habits and preferences.
The servants naturally dared not speak carelessly about their employer, and all of them stammered and gave ambiguous answers when asked. Unable to obtain any useful information, Fu Li had no choice but to go to the housekeeper again.
At this point, the butler had received Luo Ze's orders and also learned the whole truth.
He never expected that the other party's true identity was actually the second young master Luo Ran's boyfriend, but somehow he mistook the eldest young master for Luo Ran, causing a misunderstanding.
But now he can't tell her the truth, so he can only follow Fu Li's words and tell her about Luo Ze's preferences and habits little by little.
The Beta youth held a pen and paper in his hand, his right hand resting on his chin, looking deep in thought with a furrowed brow, occasionally muttering to himself, "Can someone undergo such a drastic change after losing their memory?"
The butler's brow twitched. He maintained a gentle smile, but his feelings were incredibly complex—the poor child, still unaware that he had mistaken someone for someone else. The second young master had run off to hide abroad without taking him with him, and now the eldest young master was also intentionally keeping it a secret; it would only be more difficult for him to discover the truth on his own.
A hint of pity crept into her gaze as she looked at Fu Li—he was truly pitiful. If only he were an Alpha or Omega, the difference in pheromones would be easily discernible. Instead, he was kept in the dark like this.
So, when Fu Li asked where Luo Ze worked and enthusiastically mentioned that she planned to make him a loving lunch and deliver it to him, the butler, out of kindness, reminded him of something:
"Young Master is actually already engaged to someone."
"What?!" This news struck the young man like a bolt from the blue, hitting him squarely on the head. His eyes widened, his face filled with shock, and he could barely speak, asking incoherently:
"When did this happen? But he... he's my... who is he engaged to?"
After much effort to appease the other party, the butler finally explained: "It's like this, half a year ago, after the young master returned to the Luo family, he soon got engaged to Miss Lilith of the Vili family. In fact, this engagement had been on the agenda for several years. After all, that young lady is a top-tier Omega, and her pheromone compatibility with the young master is ninety percent, and the two families also have very frequent business dealings."
Seeing the stunned expression on Beta's face, he said with some reluctance, "Actually, you should have met that lady before. She was among the visitors yesterday, and later she even had dinner with the young master."
Fu Li was stunned and it took her a while to come to her senses.
Her expression shifted from shock to anger and then to resentment, and her eyes welled up with tears. Her nostrils flared and her Adam's apple bobbed as she struggled to hold back her tears.
When she spoke again, her voice was trembling: "How could this be... He and I are... We truly love each other..."
The butler's eyes were filled with pity, but he ultimately chose not to comfort the young man and stepped aside to let him grieve alone.
The setting sun slanted in through the windows of the corridor, illuminating the back of the elderly man in his butler's robes. A dark glint appeared in his eyes behind his half-moon-shaped monocle. He didn't want to watch the young man's infatuation go to waste, and thought that perhaps it would be a good thing for him to realize the harsh reality sooner.
That evening, Luo Ze finished his work at the company. But he didn't see the person he expected to meet him at the corridor entrance. He asked the maid and learned that Fu Li had locked herself in her room since the afternoon and hadn't even eaten dinner.
Upon hearing this, Luo Ze frowned slightly and quickly walked upstairs.
Turning the doorknob of the guest room, the room was very dimly lit. All that could be seen was a bulge in the center of the bed. Upon closer inspection, the bulge was trembling slightly, and a low, hoarse sobbing sound could be heard coming from it.
Luo Ze's mind went blank for a moment. Without thinking, he stepped forward and lifted the blanket. He saw a person curled up inside, their face covered in tears, their little nose twitching. When they looked up, their clear eyes were filled with tears, as if they had suffered a great injustice.
Alpha's pupils dilated instantly, and he immediately asked, "What happened? Who bullied you?" His tone was sharp without him even realizing it.
The young man had been crying for a long time because of his engagement to someone else. Looking at his face now, she felt even more sorrowful. She whispered, "You're engaged to someone else...is that right?" She sobbed as she spoke, her nose red and her eyes filled with sadness.
Luo Ze was taken aback for a moment, then realized what he meant and frowned as he asked, "Who told you that?"
He thought to himself with annoyance: Didn't I tell him not to say anything unnecessary to him? Who was it that had to be so talkative?!
But the young man paid no heed to that, turning over and continuing to sob softly. He curled up into a ball, like a wounded little animal that could only return to its den to lick its wounds, looking pitiful.
Knowing full well that he shouldn't be responsible for him, Luo Ze felt a strange sense of guilt, accompanied by a similar level of unease. It was like a needle pricking his heart, causing a faint pain, as if he really was a scumbag who had a boyfriend but was engaged to someone else.
Looking somewhat troubled, she sat down on the edge of the bed, gently patted Fu Li's back, and whispered, "Are you hungry? The servants said you haven't eaten anything since this afternoon. Shall I have them bring you some dinner?"
Before this, he had never spoken to anyone in such a gentle and soft voice. At this moment, Luo Ze showed Fu Li all the tenderness he had left, but the only response he received was a soft sob.
Then the young man turned around, his face streaked with tears, and said in a sobbing voice, "You don't remember? I fell in love with you at first sight when we first met. We were very happy after we got together, but what am I going to do now? You're going to be with someone else. Where am I going to go?"
Luo Ze felt extremely guilty and could only try to comfort him by saying, "It's just an engagement, it doesn't mean I'm with someone else."
The young man stared wide-eyed, his eyes brimming with tears, and asked, "You're engaged, but aren't you together?!"
Luo Ze sighed slightly, then explained the meaning of a business marriage to him.
Finally, he added, "There is no affection between Lilith and me. This is all just a deal between the Lo family and the Vili family."
After hearing him say he had no feelings for Omegas, Fu Li gradually stopped crying. After listening to his words, she tugged at the Alpha's sleeve and carefully asked:
"Then...can I not get engaged to her?"
Seeing the pure and innocent expression on the person's face, like that of a small animal, the Alpha's tall frame stiffened for a rare moment before he looked away. His eyes were indifferent, yet held a complex mix of emotions that were difficult to discern.
"I'm sorry, this is a pre-arranged agreement, and the engagement... cannot be dissolved for the time being."
A look of disappointment and grievance immediately appeared on Beta's face. She then turned back, sobbing and remaining silent.
Luo Ze ordered someone to bring him dinner.
It wasn't until he stepped out of the guest room that he belatedly realized that he had actually felt a sense of guilt and self-reproach because of his twin brother's lover's accusations, and that he was experiencing a pang of conscience.
But this has nothing to do with him!
