Chapter 347 A Nightmare
"Have we been kidnapped?" Jiang Ranran asked in a low voice while snuggling tightly in Xiang Nuan's arms.
"It looks like it should be." Xiang Nuan hugged him tightly, giving her frightened heart some support.
They had been locked up in this dark room for who knows how long. From the moment they were thrown in, no one had paid any attention to them except for someone putting a quilt in the middle.
The reason for sending the quilt was absolutely sufficient. This was an abandoned rough brick house in the wilderness, and if they didn't have this quilt, they would have frozen to death.
They were trying to wear down her last psychological defenses, and when she could no longer bear the pain and started begging for mercy, she would agree to all their demands. I have to admit that this trick was much more effective than intimidation and threats.
"Do they want money?" Ran Ran asked.
"I don't know." Xiang Nuan gently stroked his cheek and said softly, "Don't be afraid, baby, I'm with you."
Jiang Ranran shook her head, but held her tighter.
Xiang Nuan wrapped the quilt tightly. She thought it would be a long night and she had to calm down and hold on.
At daybreak, she put Ranran on the ground and tried to push the door. The door looked shaky and would fall apart at any time, but it just wouldn't open. At first, she tried carefully, and when she found that no one paid attention, she shook it desperately, but to no avail.
This brick house only had one palm-sized window, which was high up on the roof, and Xiang Nuan had no way of reaching it. There was almost nothing to stand on, so the little hope became an unattainable fantasy.
I don't know how long it was before the door opened. A fully armed man wrapped like a mummy threw in a bottle of water and a small piece of bread, then locked the door without saying a word.
"Who are you? What do you want to do?" Xiang Nuan knocked on the wooden door hard, but there was no response again.
"Come on, Ranran, you need to eat something." Xiang Nuan handed him the bread and water and forced him to eat it.
"And you?"
"I'm not hungry."
Jiang Ranran didn't say anything, but tears began to fall.
He had never experienced such a situation before. Although this was different from the kidnapping he had imagined, with no vicious villains shouting and screaming, it was still scary enough.
Will they be locked up here forever? Will they die?
"Do you think Dad will save us?"
"Of course. There must be a lot of people out there trying to find us. We just need to be strong and wait for them, okay?"
Jiang Ranran blinked his big eyes. He really wanted to nod, but he had no confidence at all.
"Baby," Xiang Nuan held his hand and rubbed it gently, "We are in danger now. What should we do in this situation?"
Jiang Ranran sniffed and said with difficulty: "Protect yourself."
"Why don't we think about some ways to protect ourselves?"
Jiang Ranran really started to think, and calmed himself down little by little. For him, as long as he was with Xiang Nuan, he wouldn't be so sad, and he still had a warm embrace to rely on.
After a long time, so long that Ran Ran had slept for who knows how many times in her arms, the door opened again. The "mummy" handed her a cell phone and a note with only one sentence and a phone number written on it: "Ask Jiang Chao to call this number."
This person didn't even want to speak, and only communicated with her through a piece of paper. It's not hard to imagine that this piece of paper would disappear into thin air after it was used. He disguised himself so well, and it must have been a careful plan. Xiang Nuan couldn't help but think that even if the police found this place in the future, they might not find any clues. Even if she met this person face to face one day in the future, she would not be able to recognize who he was.
Why Jiang Chao? Xiang Nuan's heart was beating fast. But she couldn't think too much, her first reaction was to call Jiang Yunhui first.
"You can only call Jiang Chao, otherwise I will take your son away." The "Mummy" seemed to see through her thoughts and handed her a second note.
Xiang Nuan took a deep breath, stood beside Ran Ran, and called Jiang Chao.
"It's me."
The moment the call was connected, her tears began to flow uncontrollably. She could no longer control her emotions and choked up as she said, "Call this number right now."
Xiang Nuan read the phone number to him. Jiang Chao's frantic voice came from the phone, asking her where she was and if she was injured. Xiang Nuan didn't have time to respond, and the phone was snatched away by the "mummy".
"Who are you?" Xiang Nuan grabbed his collar, and he pulled her wrists apart and pushed her back into the house. The door closed again.
Jiang Ranran ran over and hugged her tightly, wiping away her tears. Xiang Nuan didn't want to cry, but once the tears started flowing, she couldn't stop them.
Jiang Chao? Why Jiang Chao? Whose phone call could it be? She kept thinking. Maybe all this was related to the fight between the Jin and Jiang families. Her so-called "eye-catching trick" finally became a target and really succeeded in attracting everyone's attention.
"Are you calling Dad?" Ran Ran asked anxiously.
"To Uncle Jiang Chao."
"Was it Uncle Jiang Chao who caught us?"
Xiang Nuan was stumped by the question. She thought about it and shook her head firmly.
"No, maybe the bad guy wants us to pass a message to him."
This was too complicated, and Ran Ran didn't understand it for a moment. What was the relationship between Uncle Jiang Chao and them? What could he talk to them about?
Xiang Nuan didn't understand either. Names flashed through her mind one by one until she stopped at the three words "Zhai Jinpeng".
Could it be him?
What's the motivation?
Why not just go find Jiang Chao directly instead of going through all this trouble?
Xiang Nuan had a headache thinking about it, but she suddenly realized that no matter what conspiracy these people had, they had never intended to hurt her from beginning to end. The purpose of kidnapping her was to threaten Jiang Chao.
But...how could she become a bargaining chip against him? He just needed to watch calmly, call the police decisively, and then wait for the police to solve everything. This was the most rational way to deal with it.
Calm down, she warned herself. Don't worry about why it was her. Now you have to think about what would happen if Jiang Chao agreed to the other party's request? What would happen if he didn't agree? If...if he didn't make that call at all...Xiang Nuan didn't want to think about the worst, but she had to force herself to find solutions one by one.
She didn't know how long it had been, so long that she couldn't even feel the passage of time, when she heard a noise at the door.
She guarded Ranran closely, not knowing whether the door would be opened at any time. But no, everything returned to silence. After a while, the sound of a car starting was heard, which became farther and farther away, and gradually disappeared.
She walked slowly and carefully to the door, and tried to push it. This time it actually worked! She pushed the door open in disbelief, and then she found that it was a vast wilderness outside. There was no light or human habitation except for the starry sky.
She checked around anxiously, and sure enough, those people left no trace. Xiang Nuan couldn't even be sure how many people they were. She tried to identify the direction, but she obviously didn't have the skill of looking at the stars to determine the direction as described in the book.
This place must be far from the road, otherwise she would definitely see faint lights or hear the sound of cars passing by. Now, apart from the rustling of various unknown creatures in the wilderness, she couldn't grasp a straw that could help her escape.
Forget it, she returned to the house and curled up next to Ran Ran with her almost frozen body. She decided to wait until dawn...
