Chapter 7 Meeting the Parents
"After that...are there any other plans?" Shi Qing asked softly, her fingertips unconsciously stroking the marriage certificate.
She was a little curious about what would happen next on Sheng Han's terrifyingly efficient schedule.
Sheng Han didn't answer immediately. His eyes fell on Shi Qing's slender hands.
"Left hand."
Although Shi Qing was confused, she still raised her left hand obediently.
The next second, a cool metallic touch gently slid across her knuckles and landed firmly on the base of her ring finger.
She looked over subconsciously.
It is an extremely simple plain ring with a perfect size.
"Even if it's a marriage by agreement, it's still a marriage." Sheng Han's voice came from above his head, low and serious.
His eyes were fixed on the plain ring, watching it gleam between her fingers, and an indescribable sense of satisfaction welled up in his heart.
"The diamond ring is still being custom-made, so I can only ask you to wear this for now."
Shi Qing's heart seemed to be gently bumped by something, and a kind of joy that even she herself did not want to explore quietly grew.
"Actually... a plain ring is fine, but a diamond ring... is unnecessary, right?" She was trying to find an excuse in a panic, her voice trembling slightly.
We are going to separate in a year, it would be such a waste to spend such an expensive thing.
Sheng Han raised his eyebrows imperceptibly when he heard this. He glanced at her evasive eyes, but his tone did not allow for rebuttal: "Do you think I will let you wear this ring when I need you to accompany me to the Shengxin Group's dinner in the future?"
He added, "Mrs. Sheng's dignity must always be taken into consideration."
Shi Qing opened her mouth, but eventually swallowed her words back.
Well, he had a point.
Anyway...it's his money.
——
Shi Qing fell asleep in the smoothly moving car.
Sheng Han turned his head and his eyes fell on her peaceful sleeping face.
Her fair cheeks were slightly flushed from deep sleep, and a few strands of soft hair were stuck to her smooth forehead.
His breathing was shallow and even, without the defensiveness of being awake, and he was so well-behaved that it made people feel soft-hearted.
Looking at her peaceful sleeping face, Sheng Han was filled with joy but had nowhere to share it with. He whispered, "Uncle Feng, I'm married."
Uncle Feng responded silently in his heart: "Yeah, I saw it." This is too sudden. I haven't heard about Mr. Sheng's relationship status before. It's already at the stage of getting married!
"Congratulations, Mr. Sheng! Mr. Sheng must be very happy." Uncle Feng said sincerely.
"Him?" Sheng Han pulled the corner of his mouth, his tone indifferent, "What right does he have to be happy or unhappy?"
Perhaps it was because the things that had been hanging in her heart had finally been settled. The threats were resolved, and the tension in her body dissipated. Shi Qing slept unusually soundly.
When her chaotic consciousness gradually faded, Shi Qing touched the thin velvet blanket on her body. She tried to move her body and found that the seat had been laid flat at some point.
The car seemed to have been parked for a long time and Uncle Feng was not in it.
She rubbed her eyes, sat up, and found Sheng Han working on his laptop.
The dim light from the screen illuminated his chiseled profile, his expression focused and stern.
Shi Qing couldn't help but sigh in her heart: If he isn't rich, who will be rich? She never misses any time to work.
"I'm sorry, did I sleep for too long?" She asked apologetically, her voice hoarse from just waking up.
After lunch, Sheng Han told her that his father, the chairman of Shengxin Group, wanted to see her.
So they drove to a sanatorium in the suburbs of Beijing.
Although I was surprised to meet his parents so soon, I had promised to cooperate with him in the agreement.
Sheng Han has cleared all obstacles for her, so she naturally has to fulfill her promise.
"It's okay." Sheng Han immediately closed the computer and said in a gentle voice, "I didn't plan my time well. I just had lunch, so it's time for a lunch break."
"But it's never nice to keep our elders waiting..." Shi Qing felt uneasy. She remembered that before getting in the car, Sheng Han told Director Sheng on the phone that he would be there later.
She turned on her phone screen and realized she had slept for nearly three hours! No wonder she felt so energetic.
Sheng Han's eyes darkened slightly, and his tone was cold: "It doesn't matter, just let him wait." These words revealed the irreconcilable contradiction between father and son.
Shi Qing recalled the rumors from high school that Sheng Han had a bad relationship with his father, and it seemed that it was still the same now.
Sheng Han is one grade lower than her because he had to repeat his freshman year of high school.
His mother passed away when he was in the third year of junior high school. His father was working on an important project abroad and was unable to return in time.
In extreme grief and anger, Sheng Han chose to deal with his mother's funeral and cremate the body without waiting for his father to come back.
Shi Qing heard about this from her best friend's boyfriend at the time. That man was a relative of Sheng Han's maternal grandfather, the Zhou family, and he also went to pay his respects that year.
Since then, Sheng Han completely broke with his father, lost interest in his studies, and behaved rebelliously.
Mr. Zhou, who had retired and returned to Anluo City to enjoy his old age, saw that his grandson was so depressed and felt that it was not good, so he took him to Anluo City and sent him to Anluo City No. 1 Senior High School, which was famous for its high admission rate.
Because he barely studied during his freshman year, Sheng Han's entrance exam results were appalling. If the Zhou family hadn't donated a new teaching building, he wouldn't have been able to get into Anluo No. 1 High School given its stringent admissions standards.
Shi Qing learned all this from her mother, a math teacher at Anluo High School who had once taught Sheng Han.
Her mother once mentioned that Sheng Han was a troublemaker when she first entered school and refused to study no matter what. Until the next semester, for some unknown reason, she suddenly became a different person and started to work hard, especially in math class, where she was extremely serious.
When Shi Qing secretly fell in love with Sheng Han, although his grades were not as outstanding as hers, they were still above average, so it was no problem for him to get into a good university.
But when I heard from him again, he had already gone abroad to study.
At that time, she was playing supporting roles in various film crews, working hard to earn money to repay her benefactor. The vague throbbing she had in high school had long been buried deep in her heart by the pressure of life.
After getting out of the car, Shi Qing subconsciously wanted to help carry the gifts in the trunk.
Sheng Han, however, took all the things in his hands first and naturally avoided her outstretched hand.
"Leave these physical tasks to me."
Shi Qing had no choice but to give up and followed Sheng Han closely.
Fortunately, I changed into comfortable flat shoes, which made walking much easier.
Sheng Han was immersed in his thoughts at first and walked quickly. When he realized it, Shi Qing had already fallen behind by a long distance.
He frowned in annoyance and immediately slowed down his pace.
Shi Qing trotted a few steps and caught up with him breathlessly, completely unaware that Sheng Han was deliberately waiting for her.
"Uncle...what disease do you have?" she asked in a low voice, trying to break the silence.
Sheng Han sneered softly when he heard this: "It's just whining without any real reason."
As luck would have it, the door of the room was open and Sheng Jian was leaning on a cane, looking forward to something. Every word of this sentence floated into his ears without missing a word.
