Chapter Fifty-Nine: Grave Mound

Bian Lang guessed the truth.

The truth is that while they were wandering the world, they were unknowingly sent to another world by the Corpse Brother.

Places that may appear to be the same are actually inhabited by completely different people.

The area around Justice Fortress is quite desolate, with no one settling there.

Bian Lang told Shangguan Hongyu his guess, and added, "Wife, let's build another Justice Fortress here."

"Why build that? Honey, take me for a walk in that woods. I remember when I was little, I loved to sneak off and play there." Shangguan Hongyu's eyes were filled with tears.

The main reason for coming to Justice Fortress was to see Bian Yao. Since we've come to a different world, we can only look at familiar scenery.

As people get older, they find themselves increasingly nostalgic for the past.

As for Bian Yao, with Hong Xiangyang's protection, she will surely live a peaceful and healthy life.

The trees are tall and the branches and leaves are lush, and the thicket of thorns makes it difficult to move an inch.

Bian Lang could clear a broad road with just a flick of his palm.

They had already ventured deep into the forest, but Shangguan Hongyu seemed to have no intention of stopping.

Suddenly, a huge ancient pine tree appeared in front of us, its branches and trunk as thick as a small house.

The most beautiful one is the blood vine rooted under the ancient pine tree.

The vine's stem was very thick, blood-red in color, and climbed all the way up the ancient pine tree to the crown, spreading its branches and leaves to bask in the sunlight.

The blood vine is competing with the ancient pine for nutrients in the soil, as well as for sunlight and rainwater falling from the sky.

Bian Lang could even sense the helplessness of the ancient pine.

“Everything has disappeared. I didn’t expect you to still be here.” Shangguan Hongyu walked laboriously to the blood vine, gently touched the vine with her hand, and a smile appeared on her lips.

Bian Lang asked with a smile, "So, when you were little, this vine was your favorite thing?"

"Yes, back then this tree wasn't this tall, and the vines weren't this thick. I would grab the vines and climb all the way to the top of the tree. The view from there was always amazing." Shangguan Hongyu recalled the past. It could be said that her only friends when she was a child were this ancient pine tree and this blood vine.

Bian Lang put his arm around Shangguan Hongyu's waist, and with a light leap, they reached the top of the ancient pine tree's canopy.

Looking around, the landscape is picturesque, and a gentle breeze is refreshing.

"Husband, I really have no regrets now." Shangguan Hongyu nestled in Bian Lang's arms, looking at the familiar scenery, reflecting on her life, having tasted all the joys and sorrows.

But her greatest fortune in life was meeting Bian Lang and winning his love.

To be honest, there are still regrets, but I can't continue to accompany Bian Lang.

She only hoped that after her death, Bian Lang could forget her quickly, find a young and beautiful woman, and live happily ever after.

Immortality is the greatest loneliness.

Bian Lang was well aware of Shangguan Hongyu's current physical condition; she could collapse at any moment and never wake up again.

All he could do was stay by her side and ease all the regrets in her heart.

"Husband, after I die, bury me here. With big trees and blood vines by my side, I won't be lonely." Shangguan Hongyu never mentioned what would happen after her death, but she felt that it was about time.

After death, one will surely be buried in the soil, so one will be with the ancient pine and the blood vine.

Bian Lang laughed and said, "Don't worry, I'm here."

"Husband, you have to promise me you'll find a better woman, live a good life, and not stay with this bumpkin." Shangguan Hongyu held Bian Lang's hand tightly.

Bian Lang nodded and said, "Okay, I promise you."

Even if Bian Lang was lying, with this guarantee, Shangguan Hongyu could leave with peace of mind.

Months later, Shangguan Hongyu nestled in Bian Lang's arms and passed away without any pain.

Bian Lang thought he would cry, but tears just wouldn't come out of his eyes, because he had promised Shangguan Hongyu that he wouldn't cry and would face everything with a smile.

Following Shangguan Hongyu's last wish, Bian Lang dug a grave under the ancient pine tree.

Inside the tomb, the roots of ancient pines and blood vines were intertwined, densely packed together.

Even lying on top of him, Shangguan Hongyu was still the most beautiful woman in Bian Lang's eyes.

Shangguan Hongyu didn't want a coffin; she only wanted to become nourishment for the blood vines and ancient pines.

Buried in this way, one truly returns to one's roots.

As fallen leaves covered Shangguan Hongyu and yellow earth settled, Bian Lang knew that he would only see this face again in his dreams.

The thought that Shangguan Hongyu's body would soon be pierced by the roots of the ancient pine and blood vine, leaving only bones and flesh, made Bian Lang feel short of breath and his heart ache unbearably.

Bian Lang built a small thatched hut nearby, and the grave mound could be seen as soon as the door was opened.

After a person dies, all that remains is this mound of earth, which is the most desolate sight.

Three years have passed in the blink of an eye, and the long-dormant Corpse-Driving Ball has once again shone with dazzling light.

Within four months, Wei Zhongxian's remains were moved to the Xishen Pavilion.

The world is changing, and I never expected that Xishen Pavilion would still exist.

But Bian Lang didn't want to move.

He just wanted to stay here and quietly accompany Shangguan Hongyu.

Four months passed quickly.

[Mission failed; punishment: 100 years of abstinence from pornography.]

What's a hundred years of abstinence from pornography?

In the days that followed, Corpse Brother kept posting corpse-driving missions, which Bian Lang refused to take time and time again.

The punishment for failing a task is the accumulation of a period of abstinence.

In less than ten years, the period of abstinence from pornography has lasted for five thousand years.

If you fail the mission repeatedly, the punishment of abstinence will be extremely severe; the most recent punishment was extended by a full two thousand years.

If the next mission fails, the period of abstinence will be extended by tens of thousands of years.

Perhaps the Corpse Brother believed that Bian Lang's heart was dead and planned to lie still forever, waiting for his lifespan to end so he could die here.

Bian Lang had been with many women before, but he wasn't really deeply in love with any of them. Moreover, none of those marriages lasted until old age before they ended.

This situation is clearly very different from before. Simply punishing them will not be enough to help Bian Lang recover.

If you want Bian Lang to continue driving corpses, you have to give him a glimmer of hope to rekindle his withered and dark heart.

A single spark can start a prairie fire.

The Corpse Brother then told Bian Lang that if Bian Lang cheered up now and continued to drive corpses, he might be able to reunite with his old friends when the contract ended.

Bian Lang doesn't want "maybes," he only wants "affirmation."

Moreover, the person they were to reunite with was not an old friend, but Shangguan Hongyu.

The Corpse Brother is omnipotent; he must have a way to accomplish this.

After receiving the assurance from the Corpse Brother, Bian Lang left the thatched hut and went to Shangguan Hongyu's grave, where he spoke to her at length.

Since we will eventually meet again, what does it matter if we are separated for ten thousand years?

Bian Lang disposed of the Fire Kirin Sword, taking only the Red Rain Sword with him. Seeing the Red Rain Sword was like seeing Shangguan Hongyu.

Once again, I embarked on the path of transporting corpses, and everything remained the same.

The rewards that Brother Corpse gave to Bian Lang afterwards were also quite generous.

Sometimes, a single reward can grant five hundred years of cultivation, which is equivalent to ten thousand years of effort prior to that.

When one's skill is profound enough, the power of the Tathagata Palm and the Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms is incomparable.

For Bian Lang, time had become very blurred. Whether it was a day, a year, or thousands of years, it didn't matter. What mattered was that he knew someone was waiting at the end of time.
