Chapter 23

Chapter 23

"If your parents hadn't taken the tribe's sacred object, the Yuhao Stone, and almost caused it to break, we wouldn't have to punish them for such a long time according to the tribe's rules. Of course, the people in the tribe are not stubborn. On the contrary, we can even break some rules for the sake of development." The high priest said over there.

"Thank you." Tears streamed down my cheeks. I didn't know how to describe my current mood. Weeping with joy? Almost. Anyway, I was very surprised.

"Are you okay?" He Man said beside me.

"It's okay, I'm just too happy." I burst into laughter.

I hugged He Man and cried bitterly. She didn't say anything, just stayed with me.

I cried for a long time and wiped away my tears.

"Sister Man, my parents and grandfather may come to help you run the business. Please take care of them when the time comes," I said.

When Sister Man heard that my family was coming, she was surprised at first because she didn't know that my parents had actually been under house arrest all these years.

"Don't worry about that. I will definitely find someone to take good care of them. If you have any other requests, I can help you with it." Sister Man said.

"That's enough, thank you." I said gratefully.

I didn't expect that it was just a simple business. Since it could allow my parents to come out early, even though they can only stay in Thailand, it is better than being confined on the cliff day after day.

I also have to work harder and make sure to get this place ready before my family comes.

At this moment, the weight of the burden on my heart finally lifted. My family, while not completely free from punishment, had made a good start. As long as I performed better at the Xuanzhen Bureau, I believed they would soon be able to return to normal life.

In the evening, Sister Man said she would take me to see a Thai-style show.

I was a bit confused at first, but once we got to the nightclub, under Sister Man's malicious gaze, I finally understood what she meant by Thai customs. Besides ladyboys, there were also many freak shows. I had never seen any of that before, so I took one look and then pulled her out. For someone like me, who is quite traditional, it was a huge shock.

I remember a story like this.

It is said that during the Qing Dynasty, there were two beggars who brought a dog with them. The dog could not only speak human language, but also sing a few simple songs.

The two men shouted and gradually more people came to watch. People were curious to see a beggar holding a whip and hitting the dog, and the dog said auspicious words such as "good luck and good fortune" and "congratulations on making a fortune".

People had never seen such a dog before, and they cheered and gave the two beggars money. Seeing that the money quickly filled their bowls, the two beggars shouted even harder, hitting the dog harder. Their earnings that day were actually equivalent to what they would have collected in a month.

The next day, the two of them came back to the original place to set up a stall. People spread the news by word of mouth, and more and more people knew about it, and the rewards they received also increased.

Eventually, this matter reached the ears of the county magistrate. Although the people at that time were relatively ignorant, the county magistrate was a knowledgeable man. He knew that there must be something fishy about this matter, so he immediately led two of his men to check it out.

He watched for a while, carefully observing the dog. Seeing that its lying posture was very unnatural and its tail had not moved, he knew it was definitely not a dog.

In the shock of the people, the county magistrate ordered two of his men to arrest the two beggars. People were confused and followed the county magistrate back to the county government office.

When they arrived at the court, the two beggars told the reason after being tortured by the county magistrate.

The two of them were begging in Lin County. One day, they passed by a farmer's house and saw that no one was at home, only a child, so they lured the child away.

The two men had brutally treated the child to his current state. Fearing discovery in their local area, they brought the child to their own county, farther away and safer. Unexpectedly, they were apprehended so quickly by the county magistrate. Because the case was connected to Lin County, the county magistrate wrote a letter and interrogated the two beggars together with the Lin County magistrate.

In the end, the two were ordered to be beheaded by the county magistrate. Unexpectedly, the people outside the court were already outraged when they heard their description, and they rushed in and beat the two men into a pulp.

And that child died not long after.

It’s pitiful how loving parents are. Every child is a child after all. A healthy life was ruined like this by two people.

I just saw those freak performances in Thailand and immediately thought of this incident, so I couldn't just stand by and watch and cheer like other spectators.

Seeing I wasn't into these things, Sister Man didn't force me and took me to Chiang Mai's night market. While the atmosphere was indeed exotic, the men's speech struck me as a bit effeminate. We were browsing the stalls, browsing small items, when we noticed a vendor displaying a collection of Buddha statues worn around their necks.

"Huh?" I walked to his stall and looked at so many necklaces, feeling a little confused.

"If you like these, I'll take you to the temple to buy some tomorrow. These street vendors probably aren't any good." Sister Man thought I wanted to buy them and spoke to me in Chinese.

"You are wrong, girl. What I have here comes from authentic temples and is guaranteed to be effective," said the stall owner.

I was surprised to see that he could speak Chinese. He is a Thai, but he speaks Mandarin better than He Man.

He Man was the same as me. She spoke to me in Chinese just now because she was afraid that the stall owner would hear her, but now she has made things worse.

He Man, unusually embarrassed, hurriedly pulled me away. I wasn't attracted to the necklaces, but rather to the Buddha statues, sensing a hint of resentment. If resentment could cling to a statue, it meant the deceased had suffered more than a simple death; they must have suffered a deep injustice, contaminating the statues. But none of this concerned us, so I didn't question the owner about the origins of the necklaces.

After walking around for a while, I saw that there was nothing interesting and wanted to go back and rest.

We walked towards the Xien Hotel, but on the way back, we passed a temple. This temple looked magnificent and was probably the largest temple I had seen in Chiang Mai.

"This is Wat Phra Dhammyan, one of the best temples. When our Buddhist instruments enter the Thai market in the future, we will inevitably have to deal with them," said Sister Man.

But my mind wasn't on that. Instead, I sensed a faint resentment within the temple, the same aura as the Buddha statues from the street vendor's shop. Could it be that he was buying his goods from this temple? This temple, however, exuded a sense of compassion, so how could there be such resentment? I felt as if I had discovered a secret, but I didn't tell He Man until I understood the situation.

When I arrived at the hotel, I took a shower and was about to go to bed when I suddenly heard a child crying outside the door.
