Chapter 27
As the fireball bounced, its movement range was no longer limited to the cliff, but flew back and forth on both sides of the cliff, and its movement trajectory was similar to a rainbow that appeared on the cliff after rain.
The fireball was getting bigger and bigger, and I could even hear the whirring sound of the wind as it moved.
What on earth is this?
Master Zhang motioned for me to follow him.
So, Master Zhang and I tiptoed towards it quietly.
As I got closer and closer to it, I finally saw clearly that when the fireball flew back to one end, it landed on the head of something. That thing puffed up its belly and blew hard, blowing the fireball to the other side of the cliff.
Just as I was concentrating on watching it blow the fireball, my foot suddenly missed a step and I slid down the cliff.
As the stone slipped, the creature immediately swallowed the fireball and ran away quickly.
"Oh no!" Master Zhang grabbed me and saw that I was fine, so he hurried to chase after that thing.
I didn't dare to delay and followed him immediately.
Fortunately, there is a big moon tonight, and the road under my feet can be seen clearly.
But there was no way the two of us could outrun that thing in the mountains, and we lost it in no time.
Master Zhang stopped dejectedly and said what a pity.
"Master, what is that?"
"This is what we are looking for today. What you just saw was the fox refining the elixir."
"You mean that the fireball flying back and forth in the air is the fox's inner elixir?" I said in surprise.
"Indeed, I wanted to use it to replenish the energy of the magical weapon on you, but now I'm afraid that's all for naught."
After listening to Master Zhang talk about my magical instruments, I took out the Feather Stone and asked, "Master, do you know the function of my Feather Stone?"
"I went back and searched through the classics but couldn't find the origin of your magic weapon. However, I can sense the pure and righteous aura within it, which is the nemesis of all evil. But yesterday I felt its energy seemed weak, so I wanted to capture the fox's inner elixir. You know, this fox spirit condenses its inner elixir at night in the middle of every month. This inner elixir absorbs the pure energy between heaven and earth, which is just right to replenish the energy of your magic weapon."
After listening to Master Zhang's words, I blamed myself a lot. If I hadn't slipped and scared the fox, I would have caught it by now.
Now that his plan had failed, Master Zhang fell into a rare silence.
"Actually, there are other ways to replenish the energy of the feather stone," I said.
When Master Zhang heard what I said, he asked, "What method?"
"Last time, when you were praying for Lingling's soul in Xiagou, my feather stone gained energy from her. Also, one time when my friends and I went to play in Xiaolianghou, we beat a pine demon back to its original form in the pine forest and gained energy from it as well."
"It's too late. Let alone helping someone to transcend, I don't even know when I'll be able to catch a monster here. The power of my talisman is only enough to last for one night. Once tonight is over, I'm afraid something will happen again tomorrow."
After hearing what Master Zhang said, the situation seemed very urgent.
"What should we do then?" I asked.
"It seems that everything is God's will. I hope everything goes well tomorrow."
I don't understand why Master Zhang is so sure that something will happen tomorrow.
It is already past midnight, so Master Zhang and I will rest here on the flat ground for one night and go back at dawn tomorrow.
I was awakened by the singing of birds in the mountains.
After waking up, Master Zhang and I hurried back to the village.
This time when I returned to the village, I clearly felt something was wrong. I frowned and felt uncomfortable all over.
Master Zhang saw this and said, "You felt it too?"
I nodded, and I had a very clear feeling that something was bound to happen today.
I couldn't help but ask him, "Should we do something?"
Master Zhang shook his head and said, "It's not that I don't want to do it, but it's useless even if I do it. Everything is destined."
After saying this, Master Zhang sighed.
Sure enough, something happened again.
That night, a drunk man in the village fell off the bridge.
But we all know that he definitely did not die from drunkenness.
So many people had died in just one week, and the village chief could no longer sit still. He knocked on our door in a panic, grabbed me, and asked, "Is the master still alive?"
My arm was hurt by his grip, and I said angrily, "What are you doing?"
Then shake his hand away.
"I inquired about Baiyun Temple yesterday. It's a famous temple. It was my fault yesterday. I shouldn't have treated the master like that. You should ask the master to come out and help our village." The village chief said anxiously.
As soon as he finished speaking, Master Zhang came out of the house. He was exhausted after two days of trekking.
He said wearily, "Village Chief, please prepare a bowl of black dog blood, some yellow talisman paper, and a brush. Remember, you only need to make a cut when taking the blood; no killing is allowed."
When the village chief saw Master Zhang coming out, he hurried over to him and said, "I'll send someone to prepare it right away. I hope the master will put aside past grudges and save us."
"I'll do my best. Village chief, go and get ready."
After sending the village chief away, Master Zhang went back into the house to rest. I sat in the yard, thinking that the village chief really wouldn't cry until he saw the coffin. This time, another person died for no reason.
When the village chief returned, Master Zhang and I were sitting in the courtyard discussing this matter. With Master Zhang's guidance, I was able to resolve many of my doubts. It seemed that Taoism and the Yin Fu Lu I had been studying had many similarities.
Master Zhang gave the village chief a few instructions, and the village chief left with a smile.
I saw Master Zhang carrying something into the room. I wanted to watch him draw the talisman, but Master Zhang said, "Drawing talismans requires concentration and calmness. You need to put your spirit into it. Please help me watch it and don't let anyone come in to disturb me."
I nodded, not quite understanding, and then sat back in the yard. What I had to guard against was the annoying village chief.
Master Zhang painted for the entire afternoon. When he came out, his face was filled with indescribable fatigue. It seemed that painting talismans was really very tiring.
I took the talismans from his hand. I couldn't understand any of the words on them. I counted them and found there were only six.
"You and I will need to work together tonight. I wonder if you are afraid." Master Zhang said seriously.
To be honest, I was a little scared because I couldn't beat those two evil spirits, but I still wanted to go, so I said, "Don't be afraid, I'll go with you!"
Master Zhang smiled with satisfaction when he heard my answer.
We waited until nine o'clock in the evening, and Master Zhang came out of the house one after another, holding the talisman paper and carrying the sword on his back.
The village chief and several others followed us, very far away.
Arriving at Chunhe Bridge, the atmosphere was tense. Master Zhang drew his sword and chanted, "The Mysterious Sect of Heaven and Earth, the root of all energy, the Three Realms within and without, only the Emperor reigns supreme. He sees and hears nothing, encompassing heaven and earth. The evil spirit has emerged! Urgent orders!"
As this voice echoed, a thick, tangible black aura emanated from the Chunhe Bridge. Within this aura, a sharp, piercing laugh echoed.
The village chief and others who were hiding in the distance behind me saw this and hurriedly ran back to the village.
I felt disdain for them, but before I could mock them, I saw the black energy float to the middle of the bridge and transform into two black figures.
One of them had gray eyes staring at her, and the other had a broken neck and drooping head.
