Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Over the next few years, the two of them came and went and gradually developed feelings for each other.

By this point, I understood that he wasn't a modern man, but rather a spirit. But hearing that he had developed feelings for that girl still made me feel a little uncomfortable. He seemed to notice my change of mood and continued, mumbling.

Over time, the two fell in love. It would have been a beautiful story for his closed disciple and his granddaughter to marry. However, they secretly met in the garden while their teacher was away. The peach blossoms were in full bloom, and deep in love, he gently took her hand and gazed at her lovingly. Unexpectedly, the teacher returned at that moment, caught sight of the scene, and flew into a rage.

In reality, the teacher had long seen their mutual affection and had intended to wait for him to achieve success and bring them together. However, in ancient times, sexual discord was a serious taboo. The problem was that they hadn't been able to meet during the teacher's absence, and the teacher had caught him holding her hand. If the teacher hadn't returned, who knows what would have happened.

When this happened, the teacher thought that he had poor personal ethics and angrily expelled him from the school.

As the saying goes, good news doesn't travel far, but bad news travels a thousand miles. The whole neighborhood knew about this. His reputation was ruined, and he was despised by others. He was originally supposed to have a career in government, but not only was his qualification for the exam disqualified, he was also looked down upon everywhere.

After this incident, his parents felt ashamed and scolded him every day at home.

Even more pitiful was the teacher's granddaughter. She had a strong temper and could not bear the gossip and rumors of others. In the end, she committed suicide by hanging herself under the peach tree where the two had a secret meeting.

When he heard that the girl was dead and his career was over, he became completely desperate and committed suicide with her.

When he said this, his voice trembled and I could feel the sadness in his heart.

"How can I help you?" I blurted out.

He shook his head, was silent for a moment, then smiled and said, "You don't have to help me. I said I'm here to wait for you."

"What do you mean?" I didn't understand what he said.

"You are her. I have been waiting for you here for more than a hundred years." He looked into my eyes affectionately.

A scene suddenly flashed through my mind: a warm spring day, a gentle breeze blowing open the peach blossoms. In the peach orchard, he and I stood face to face. He smelled of books, a pleasant scent. He gently took my hand and slowly moved closer to me. I could feel his breath, his face drawing closer.

"Let's continue our relationship, okay?" he said slowly.

I couldn't help but close my eyes.

Just as I was about to nod my yes, I felt a warm sensation on my chest and my eyes snapped open.

The peach blossoms before me were gone, and the dilapidated temple remained. Before I knew it, he had already held my hands, his face close at hand, waiting for my answer.

I broke free from his hand and quickly stood up to distance myself from him.

"Who are you?" I said, staring into his eyes.

He looked stunned, as if he didn't understand my actions.

"I am your husband."

"You're lying to me!" I looked at him warily.

After hearing what I said, he became a little angry and said, "What's wrong with you?"

Seeing that he still refused to admit it, I said, "Stop pretending. I've seen through your tricks."

A look of disbelief appeared on his face, and he walked towards me.

Seeing him do this, I shouted, "Don't come over!" I pinched a magic hand gesture and secretly guarded against him. If he came one step closer, I would release him.

He stopped and saw how alert I was, and the warm smile on his face finally turned gloomy.

"Damn it, damn it!" He was furious and stomped his feet angrily.

After saying a few words, he rushed towards me regardless of anything.

I released the magic spell in my hand without hesitation and hit him.

Golden light penetrated his body, sending up a cloud of dust. Then, his entire body began to change from the injured area, gradually shrinking and emitting a surge of divine light.

He seemed to be surprised that I had this ability, and his face showed surprise. When his divine light was slowly absorbed by the feather stone, his eyes showed fear and his mouth opened wide.

Without any power to resist, he gradually turned into a clay figure and fell to the ground.

I was also very surprised to see this scene. After confirming that there was no danger, I walked forward and carefully observed the clay figure that had fallen to the ground.

This clay figure is very worn out, and the color on its body has long been blurred. There is a fresh hole in its heart, which I just made.

It's only now that I'm puzzled, it turns out he was made of this clay figure.

In the temple, these clay figurines were originally meant to add color to the temple, but this clay figurine became a spirit after being exposed to incense for a long time. In addition, the temple was in ruins, and without the restraint of the righteous gods, it was able to cause trouble in this desolate wilderness.

When he finds someone to stay with, he'll transform into a human form at night, enchanting them and absorbing their energy. Once he's absorbed enough energy, he'll transform into a human, freeing himself from his clay form. This is why, when I observe him with the feather stone, I can see a divine aura emanating from him, yet his aura feels off. This is because he's been worshipped alongside the temple's true deities.

But he probably didn't absorb much incense after becoming a spirit, because I just cast a simple spell and he was beaten back to his original form.

But if I were an ordinary person, without the Yuhao Stone to remind me at the critical moment, I would probably have lost all my popularity after agreeing to him.

Now that I think about it, I was too naive. I knew there was something wrong with him, but I was still deceived by him. It seems that I can no longer trust anyone when I go out in the future.

Thinking of this, I couldn’t help but feel a little scared.

It was midnight, and although the rain had stopped, I had no intention of leaving. Firstly, the mountain path was difficult to navigate, especially after the rain, making it even more muddy. I wasn't sure if it would rain again. Secondly, I had already broken the clay figurine, so it couldn't harm anyone. Furthermore, I wasn't afraid of these mountain goblins and monsters, so I planned to stay here for one night and leave early tomorrow.

But I had just woken up, and after what I had experienced, I was not sleepy at all. I just sat on the ground, listening to the sound of rain falling on the ground outside.

The night was peaceful and nothing else happened.

Before I knew it, a hint of dawn appeared in the sky. I stood up, dusted off my body, and walked out of the dilapidated temple.

Before leaving, I smashed the clay figure to prevent it from becoming a demon again and harming others.

After I smashed the clay figure into pieces, the last remaining energy in it disappeared.

But a piece of paper appeared in the broken clay figure.

"Huh?" I exclaimed in surprise, bent down to pick up the note and slowly opened it. There was a map on it with the logo of this temple. Only now did I know that this was a mountain temple.

The other place seemed not far from the temple, and according to the map, it shouldn't take long to get there. Driven by curiosity, I decided to go and check it out.

I set off right away, following the route drawn on the map and heading straight to that place.
