Chapter 37

Chapter 37

In my opinion, dozens of ghosts are easier to deal with than these dozens of villagers.

We dined in a large courtyard. For some reason, the entire area was covered with a curtain, with a few light bulbs hanging above, making the dim courtyard barely visible. The villagers greeted us warmly. The village chief arranged for us to sit, then stood at the door and pressed his hand. The noisy villagers quieted down.

The village chief said, "Everyone, listen to me. Today, the Taoist priests have come to help our village exorcise evil spirits. We must treat you well. Tonight, we won't leave until we are drunk."

After the village chief finished speaking, he picked up a glass of wine and said, "Let me toast to the Taoist priest first."

"Good!" The villagers applauded enthusiastically.

The situation is stronger than us now, we have to drink whether we want to or not.

Master Zhang then raised his wine glass and said, "Thank you all for your kindness, but my two disciples are still young and cannot drink. I hope you will bear with me. Let's have a few drinks tonight. We have to go back into the mountains early tomorrow."

He pointed at Qingyun and me, trying to excuse us.

Seeing that we were indeed not very old, the village chief said, "Then the Taoist priest and the remaining two disciples should have a few more drinks."

At this point, he could no longer refuse, and after three cups, the dishes began to be served.

Qingyun and I hardly touched our chopsticks. We didn't dare to eat the meal.

Master Zhang and the other three were no match for him. They drank cup after cup of wine and were soon drunk by the villagers.

"Why don't you two eat?" the village chief stepped forward and said.

"We're not hungry yet," I said.

"Eat something even if you're not hungry. If you get hungry at night, we won't have anything to eat here."

The villagers also turned their eyes to us, so I had no choice but to pick up the bowl, pick up some vegetables with chopsticks and put them in my mouth.

Seeing that I had finally eaten, the village chief smiled and said, "Eat more. These are the dishes we serve to entertain our distinguished guests. We usually don't want to eat them."

I took two more chopsticks, and the village chief finally let us go. They got Master Zhang and the other two drunk, but instead of ending the feast, they continued drinking. This drinking lasted until midnight, and Master Zhang and the other three were eventually carried back home.

I didn't go back with them, but decided to go back to the old woman's house to find out what was going on. Luckily, the villagers were all drunk, so I slipped out. But when I got to her house, the door was locked. I didn't dare knock to ask if she was locked in. The village was so quiet that night, and knocking would definitely alert others.

My heart was heavy, and before I knew it I was walking on the street.

I thought I was drunk, but I wasn't. In front of me, the millstone was spinning on its own, making a grinding noise. I quickly used the power of the feather stone to focus my attention. I saw two men, pale, frail, and with vacant eyes. They didn't look at me, just kept pushing the millstone around and around.

This is a ghost.

I walked a little closer, and they both seemed to have lost consciousness and ignored me completely.

I wanted to see what they were grinding, but when I saw it, I was almost scared to death. I saw that on the millstone was a piece of human skin that was pressed flat!

The human skin was very complete and even very tender. It could be seen that she must have been very beautiful when she was alive.

I wanted to ask them what they were doing, so I walked up to them.

The two of them seemed to have just noticed my presence. They slowly turned their heads and saw that I was a girl, and they showed happy expressions.

I immediately cast a spell and they both turned into two blue lights and drilled into the millstone. The human skin also disappeared.

I didn't stop and ran to the village chief's house.

When the village chief saw me coming back, he said, "Little girl, don't run around at night."

I ignored him and asked, "Where is my master?"

Master Zhang has already said in front of everyone that I am his apprentice, and I can't reveal the secret now.

The village chief said, "The Taoist priest is drunk and lying down."

I walked into the room and saw that the four of them were lying there. Qingyun even blinked at me, obviously he couldn't sleep.

When the village chief saw me come back, he walked out and closed the door. This is his home, and I don't know why he seems to be out all the time. It's so late now and he's not at home sleeping.

After the village chief left, I was talking to Qingyun. He finally felt sleepy and began to breathe heavily.

I was also very tired these past few days and I don’t know how I fell asleep in the end.

"Little sister, little sister!"

I heard someone calling me.

I opened my glued eyelids and saw Liu Danchen patting my shoulder.

It turned out that it was already daybreak.

Master Zhang and the others are all ready, only I am missing.

I tried hard to wake up, washed my face briefly, and set off with Master Zhang and the others.

When we reached the center of the village, the village chief and others were already waiting there.

It was Xiaohu who led the way.

At this moment, I couldn't help but look at the stone mill. There were two or three people in the village squatting on the millstone. I don't know if they knew that human skin had been ground on the stone mill last night.

Our group followed Xiaohu into Broken Soul Mountain. This was my first time entering the mountain, and the uncomfortable feeling became even stronger as soon as I entered.

Even during the day, visibility on the entire mountain was limited. A white mist lingered in the forest, and the trees grew crooked and twisted, looking like twisted snakes to me. I had no idea how Xiaohu knew the path; it was crooked and uneven, with no pattern at all.

I don’t know how long we have been walking, but now we are completely surrounded by dense forests in front, behind, left and right, and we can’t tell the directions at all.

After walking a bit longer, a large tree suddenly appeared before our eyes. It stood out among the surrounding bushes. Its thick trunk was so thick that it took four or five people to hug it. Its roots partially protruded from the ground before sinking deeply into the soil.

If I'm not mistaken, this is where Luo Hao and his men died, and also where Li Danyang disappeared.

Xiaohu stopped here and said, "I can only take you here. Go and look for it. When you're done, come back here and I'll take you back."

I thought he would look for it with us, but he just brought us here.

Master Zhang asked us to form groups of two. I followed Zhao Danxi, Liu Danchen took Qingyun, and he was alone.

So we began to disperse and look for Li Danyang.

After we walked away, I asked Zhao Danxi, "Brother Danxi, do you feel that there is something wrong with that little tiger?"

"You mean to say he seems to be watching us."

"Yes, that's the feeling. It's as if they're afraid we'll run away."

"Master, we felt it yesterday, but there's no need to be afraid in this mountain. They seem to be really afraid of this mountain."

Zhao Danxi and I were talking as we searched.

But it is so difficult to find a person in this vast forest. We searched for a long time but found no clues.

I know this isn't the solution, I need to think of another way.

"Found it." Zhao Danxi suddenly said excitedly.

I ran over and saw a shallow trace in the grass. It was invisible without careful observation. The trace was an isosceles triangle with the top angle pointing in one direction.
