Chapter 61

Chapter 61

I leaned back in the car seat, squinting my eyes in confusion. Although my motion sickness had lessened considerably after frequent car rides, my mind still wasn't as clear as usual.

The car stopped at the entrance of a village and headed back. I got out and walked for a while before a town appeared. Broken porcelain was piled at the entrance. Looking inside, I saw many houseplates with the word "porcelain" written on them. Strangely, there wasn't a single person in sight, and all the shops were closed.

I was a little hungry and wanted to find a shop to eat. There was a noodle shop not far ahead, but it looked like no one had been there for a while.

I knocked on the door and heard a noise from inside. Then a pair of eyes suddenly appeared in the crack of the door. Perhaps seeing that I was a little girl, the boss opened the door and pulled me into the store.

"Why did you come to our town, little girl? Didn't you see the sign in front of the town?" the boss said angrily.

I saw the boss's reaction and felt a little strange. Besides, I didn't see any sign when I came in, so I said, "Boss, give me a bowl of noodles."

"Didn't you hear me? Get out of here!" said the boss.

I came here to eat, and I didn't expect the boss to have such an attitude. No wonder there are so few people in the whole town. With such an attitude, it would be strange if anyone came to patronize the restaurant.

I walked out of his shop angrily and went inside.

The boss saw me going inside and said, "Why are you still going inside? I told you to leave town immediately."

"I'm not eating at your restaurant, and you still tell me whether to find another restaurant or not?" I said angrily.

"What a living ancestor!" The boss ran out anxiously and dragged me out of the town.

My stubborn temper kicked in and I was about to go in, but the boss stopped me because I really wasn't as strong as him.

"Girl, I'm not trying to scare you. Our town is not clean. Can't you see that there is no one on the street? I don't know which wicked person brought you to our town. Let's go before it gets dark." My wife pulled me and said.

When I heard him say the town was unclean, I thought about the town's strangeness and realized it was indeed abnormal. But hearing that the town was unclean piqued my curiosity. I carefully sensed the town and found no trace of evil.

"I'm from the Tianshi Mansion and I'm not afraid of these things at all. How about this, you buy me a bowl of noodles and I'll help you clean up the weird things in the town." I guessed that there must be someone playing tricks in the town.

"You little girl are talking nonsense. I have never heard of Tianshi Mansion. Get out of here immediately." Seeing that the boss was not going to listen, I had no choice but to leave.

But I was really hungry, so after the boss disappeared, I quietly slipped into town again. As soon as I stepped into town, the boss opened the door again and caught me red-handed. I looked at him awkwardly, and he came over unhappily and said, "Come on, I'll make you a bowl of noodles. Eat it and leave quickly."

I went back to the shop, and the owner called out to the inner hall: "Wife, make some noodles quickly."

It turns out there is a lady boss in the store.

Soon a bowl of steaming hot noodles was served. I looked at the proprietress. There was a scar on her face that looked like a centipede. As if noticing my gaze, the proprietress brought the noodles and quickly returned to the inner hall.

Seeing that the boss lady was so weird, I really didn’t dare to eat this bowl of noodles.

The boss looked at me with a smile and said, "Eat, why don't you eat? Aren't you hungry?"

I chuckled, but didn't dare touch the bowl of noodles again. I began to survey the shop. Most of the tables and chairs had been put away, leaving only this one, likely where they usually eat. The menu and prices were still posted on the wall, covered in dust. On the wall opposite the door was an old grandfather clock, flanked by two chairs.

"If you don't want to eat, just leave and don't stay here," said the boss.

"Boss, can you tell me what happened in the town?" I asked him.

When the boss heard my question, he looked very secretive. Then he kicked me out of town and said, "Don't come back."

They say it's hard to persuade a damned ghost with kind words, and that's kind of what I'm thinking now. Even if you don't let me come, I'll come anyway.

I waited in front of the town, and the boss squatted there, watching me. He was like one of those ancient stone lions in a wealthy family, guarding the town's gate. We stared at each other in a stalemate until the sun went down, and the boss finally lost his patience and went back to his shop.

I saw him leave and proudly entered the village again. The boss opened the door, beckoned to me, and said, "Come in."

This is my third time in his shop.

Sitting on the stool, I said, "Boss, what's going on in this town? I don't see anyone except you and the boss lady."

"Little girl, you won't listen to me no matter what I say. After tonight, you will understand without me having to tell you anything. It's too late to say anything now, ah!"

I don't know what he is talking about. Since the boss won't tell me, I'm going to find out myself tonight.

The landlady was a nice person and she prepared a room for me upstairs, but she looked at me with a strange look, full of pity.

Could it be that there really is some evil spirit in this town that I haven't sensed?

I lay in bed with doubts, tossing and turning, waiting for night to fall. Due to the long car ride and the confrontation with my boss all day, I was too tired. After a while, sleepiness came over me and I fell asleep.

The boss and his wife quietly opened the door while I was sound asleep. The clothes they wore were completely different from those they wore during the day. The boss wore a felt hat, had no eyebrows, a pair of eyes as big as green beans, and a small mustache. His face had the dark blue color of someone who had died, and his lips were purple. His clothes looked like shrouds, black with copper coins embroidered on them. The boss's wife had her hair tied in a bun, her face was pale, and her blush was thick. The scars on her face that I saw today were bloody and fleshy. Her eyeballs had disappeared, leaving only empty eye sockets. The two of them stood in front of the bed, looking at me.

This woke me up. I opened my eyes and looked towards the bed. The boss and his wife were not there.

It turned out to be a dream I had.

I was awakened by a dream and couldn't fall asleep anymore. I got out of bed and tiptoed to open the door.

"Squeak." The sound of a door opening was heard in the corridor.

I opened the door and walked in the empty corridor. It was already midnight and the dim lights were flickering. I walked downstairs. Tonight I wanted to see what made the boss so taboo.

After going down the stairs, the first floor was completely dark with no lights on. I could only walk out by moonlight.

Just as I was walking to the door, I felt something strange behind me, which I didn't feel during the day.

I slowly turned my head and saw two human-shaped figures sitting on the two chairs in front of the wall. I walked closer and saw that they were two porcelain figures, and they looked like the boss and his wife.
