Chapter 72

Chapter 72

That night, Xie Baoyi appeared in my dream again, saying that her emotional knot had been resolved and she could finally be reincarnated. I also expressed my sincere blessings for them, hoping that they can truly become lovers in their next life.

After being away from home for so long, seeing every tree and blade of grass in my hometown again made me feel so familiar. I finally came back, so I had to go visit my uncle. When I got to his house, he was very happy and said to me, "Don't leave this time. If you have to, stay with me. It's a good opportunity to spend more time with your sister."

"My godmother gave birth!" I said excitedly.

The last time I said goodbye to my godfather, my godmother was not pregnant yet. I didn’t expect that she is pregnant now.

At this point, the smile on Grandpa Gan's face widened. He said, "You were born last year. It's a good thing you passed away early, otherwise you could have attended your sister's full moon banquet!"

"Hey, let me go and take a look." As soon as I entered the house, I saw my godmother coaxing the child.

"Godmother," I greeted her, then looked at the child in her arms with surprise. Seeing me was a stranger, the child didn't cry. Instead, she smiled and stretched out her delicate little hand to touch me. I put my face close to hers, but she pinched my nose and kicked her legs with joy.

"She likes you very much." Godmother said, "Are you leaving again this time?"

"Stay two more days." I said while teasing the child.

"Have you named her yet?"

"Your grandfather gave you the name Xiaowei."

"Xiao Wei, Xiao Wei."

When she heard me talking, she smiled even more happily.

At this time, Grandpa Gan also walked into the house and said, "Let's eat here today. When your godfather comes back from work, we can eat together. He is still in the fields."

"Okay." I took Xiaowei and said, "Give me a hug."

I found that Xiaowei really liked me and kept smiling in my arms.

"Or you can stay at home and take care of your godmother's children."

I know Grandpa Gan is worried that a girl like me would be in danger outside, but I can't stay here forever.

Ever since Bai'an Town lost the Feather Stone, I've felt like there's a pair of eyes watching me from the shadows, watching my every move. Those eyes are likely from the ghost tribe. First, Mom and Dad mysteriously disappeared, then Grandpa, and I'm probably next!

"Hehe." I didn't answer him, but kept teasing Xiaowei, touching her little face and nose with my fingers, very gently, for fear of hurting her.

Seeing this, my godfather knew I had made up my mind and quietly left the house to cook. My godmother and I continued chatting about family matters until my godfather came back.

I spent the whole day at Grandpa Gan's house. I found that Xiaowei was very close to me and loved playing with me. I played with her until 7 or 8 in the evening. When it was dark outside, I said, "I have to go back. Come back next time."

"It's so dark, why don't you stay here with your little sister for the night."

"No, Grandpa, the door is not closed at home."

After I said that, I walked home.

Before leaving, Grandpa Gan muttered reluctantly: "You don't have anyone at home, you might as well stay with me."

After saying that, he handed me a flashlight.

It was indeed dark now, so I turned on the flashlight and headed home.

After passing Niujiawan and crossing Maishui Bridge, it was another seven or eight minutes' walk to our village. Just then, I spotted what looked like a figure on the road. I shone my flashlight over, but it was still a little far away, so I couldn't make it out clearly. He was just standing there, motionless.

I slowly made my way up the road, flashlight in hand. He followed suit. Just as we were about to reach the entrance to the West Ditch, he suddenly vanished. I was certain I wasn't mistaken; it was indeed a person.

Just when I was wondering where he was going, he appeared in front of my flashlight.

In the flashlight, he hopped and skipped along, very slowly, like a normal person running at a slower pace. His feet were bare, with bloody scratches from thorns on the insteps. His pants were torn and covered in dirt. A black rope was tied around his waist. His upper body was naked, and several bloody streaks were visible. Most terrifying of all, above his nose, there was no head.

He walked in a hopping manner under the light of my flashlight, and blood spurted out from his neck with every step.

I was so scared that I quickly turned off the flashlight, but in the pitch black night, turning it off only made me more frightened. It felt like he was watching me from the darkness, ready to appear if I moved. I couldn't bear the fear any more, so I turned the flashlight back on.

The moment the flashlight shone, he was standing right in front of me, and we were face to face. No, he didn't have a head at all. I only saw a neck in front of me, with nothing on it and blood foam at the broken part.

I closed my eyes, pushed him away, and ran forward as fast as I could, but he kept following me at a distance of two or three meters. Although Xigou was very close to our village, I felt that time was very long.

Now I have no magical powers, so encountering these things is a sure death. Fortunately, I've encountered many evil spirits before, so I'm mentally strong and didn't let it frighten me to the ground. I just ran towards the village. When I reached the village entrance, the thing didn't stop, but kept running forward, eventually disappearing.

I breathed a sigh of relief and didn't dare to stay here any longer. I ran back home quickly.

As soon as I got home, I closed the door and turned on the lights inside and outside. I sat on the bed and rested for a while before leaving the room, quickly tucking the quilt. I felt calm with the lights on, but I didn't dare turn them off to sleep.

When I woke up the next day, the old village chief was banging on my door. I went out and opened the door, but before I could say anything, he said anxiously, "Something happened!"

My heart skipped a beat.

“What’s wrong?”

"Someone is crazy and is being taken to the hospital now."

"Speak slowly, what happened?"

"Last night, a relative of Wang Laosan's got married, and he went to give the gift. He spent the whole day drinking in Xiaogangzi, and when he was riding his motorcycle home in the middle of the night, he saw a headless man hopping in front of his motorcycle, following him all the way. When he got home and told his wife about it, he became stunned and can't say a word. Do you have any ideas?"

I sighed. The one he met must be the same ghost I met. There is really nothing I can do now.

Seeing my embarrassment, the old village chief knew I probably didn't have any good solutions, so he said, "Why don't you go find Master Zhang?"

"Master Zhang has not been in Baiyun Temple for a long time. He is now in Jiangxi." I said to the old village chief who didn't know about this.

After hearing what I said, he lowered his head, rubbed his hands together, and kept muttering: "What should I do?"

"I'll go to the hospital to see Wang Laosan first. If you have any ideas, let me know." The old village chief stomped his feet and said.

After saying this, he hurried away.

I watched his back as he walked away. It seemed that the village was going to be in turmoil again.
