Chapter 96

Chapter 96

Hearing what Old Man Liu said, we all looked at him.

He squatted on the ground, hugging his legs with both hands, and said, "My grandfather told me that. Now there are not many people in the village who know about it."

He fumbled around, took out a cigarette paper from the breast pocket of his jacket, then took out some tobacco from a cloth bag, rolled it on the cigarette paper, and lit the cigarette with a match, his eyes full of memories.

"Our village is called Shituozi. In the beginning, there was a huge rock here. Later, the imperial court took the stone and cut it. But when they cut the rock, blood flowed out from the cracks in the stone.

More than a dozen stonemasons died, construction halted, and no one dared to touch the boulder. Finally, the imperial court summoned a Heavenly Master, the same one from Mount Longhu. He took one look and declared that the stone was a sacred mountain stone, possessed of spirits. Now that it had been destroyed, all present would face doom.

Finally, the Heavenly Master performed a ritual for seven days and seven nights, and then ordered people to cut off a piece of the huge rock, make forty-nine human heads, and bury them around the huge rock to commemorate the mountain god.

Later, when the huge stones were mined again, everything returned to normal. After the imperial court finished mining, they ordered soldiers to guard the site for generations, fearing that someone would dig up the heads and cause trouble. Over time, the soldiers began to make their living there, and the incident became a legend.

After hearing this, I have a general understanding of the whole process.

"Brother Liu, are you saying that the people in our village are all descendants of those imperial soldiers?" said Zhang Jinbao.

"That's what my grandfather told me. If those heads hadn't been dug out, I wouldn't have remembered this incident." Old Man Liu said as he puffed on his cigarette.

"Then why didn't you say it earlier?" asked Zhang Jinbao.

"Didn't I ask Zou Zhen to go to the Tianshi Mansion to find someone?" said Old Man Liu.

Several people looked at each other, and finally turned their eyes to Liu Danchen.

Liu Danchen said, "If that's the case, it's going to be difficult. The Celestial Masters in our Celestial Master Mansion can only seal them, but can't destroy them. With my abilities, I'm definitely no match for them."

"What should we do? Should we go back and ask the old Taoist priest for help?" asked Zhang Jinbao.

"It may be too late!" said Liu Danchen.

I looked at the sky and realized it was too late. The sky was thick with dark clouds, and it was obvious a torrential rain was coming. This return would take at least two or three days. Judging by their condition last night, I was afraid everyone would be dead by the time the old Taoist priest arrived.

"Is it too late for us to escape now?" Zhang Jinbao said nervously.

"It's useless. Their evil spirit has already stuck to us. No matter how far we run, they will catch up."

"I just don't fucking believe it. If I run to the Tianshi Mansion, can he chase me there?" Xu Xiaogang said in a cowardly manner.

"If we can really run to the Tianshi Mansion, we might still be saved, but they won't give us that chance."

"I don't believe that! I'm leaving now. Who of you wants to come with me?" Xu Xiaogang said, standing up.

"Gangzi, I'll follow you. I'll die if I stay here anyway." Yin Qiang also stood up.

Xu Xiaogang glanced at Old Man Liu, his grandson, and Zhang Jinbao again and asked, "Anything else?"

The three of them remained silent and lowered their heads.

"Let's go, Qiangzi!" Xu Xiaogang and Yin Qiang just left.

Now there are only five of us left: Liu Danchen, me, Old Man Liu and his grandson, and Zhang Jinbao. Seeing that it was about to rain heavily, we all went to Old Man Liu's house to take shelter from the rain.

Now everyone in the village has run away. We can’t see a single person when walking on the street, but in the dark, we always feel that there are countless eyes staring at us.

Zhang Jinbao didn't dare go home to live alone, so the five of us all lived in Old Man Liu's house.

Less than ten minutes later, the rain began to pour down. I'd never seen anything like it in my life; it was like a downpour. It had been a gloomy day just a moment ago, but now it was as dark as night.

Looking at the heavy rain outside the window, I was afraid that Old Man Liu’s house would collapse.

"Something's not good!" I whispered to Liu Danchen.

"Little sister, if it really doesn't work, wait until the rain stops and then go back to ask the old Taoist priest for help. I'll hold on here first." Liu Danchen said calmly.

Looking at his determined eyes, I was deeply touched. Master Zhang's disciples, regardless of their abilities, all have a sense of mission to eliminate demons and defend the Way.

If I leave, Liu Danchen will be unable to handle the whole thing alone and something might happen.

Although I am not capable enough now, I can still help a little, so I said, "I'm afraid I can't get away either."

A long silence followed, and we just stared at the rain outside the window, each with our own thoughts.

The rain continued for three days and three nights. If Old Man Liu's house hadn't been located on high ground, it would have been washed away long ago. I wonder if it was because of the heavy rain, but the seven heads hadn't appeared in the past few days.

They thought that the matter was over and things were getting easier.

Only Liu Danchen and I know that things are not that simple.

Because we both know that the evil spirit is getting heavier and heavier, and I'm afraid that once the rain stops, the weather will change.

This inference turned out to be correct. On the fourth day, the rain stopped. However, the sun still did not come out and the sky remained gloomy.

It's been raining for so long, I'm almost suffocating in Old Man Liu's house. Taking advantage of the free time now, let's go out for a walk in the yard.

Zhang Jinbao said he was going home to get his things, and the remaining four of us stayed on the street to observe the changes brought about by the heavy rain.

Many houses in the village were washed away, and Old Man Liu was filled with regret. As we were walking and observing, Zhang Jinbao came running back like a madman.

"Help, help!"

He fell to the ground in a mess, and judging by the appearance of his clothes, he must have fallen several times.

When he saw us, he clung to Liu Danchen's legs and said incoherently, "They're dead! They're both dead."

"Who died?" Old Man Liu said, "Why did you come home like this?"

He was so scared that he couldn't speak and kept pointing at Zou Zhen's uncle's house.

It seems that there is a problem with the house.

A few of us hurried to the house. Old Man Liu and his grandson were so scared that they didn't dare to move forward. Zhang Jinbao had not yet recovered from the shock.

Only Liu Danchen and I walked closer and saw two people standing on the foundation of Uncle Zou Zhen's house.

I was very familiar with their clothes, they were Xu Xiaogang and Yin Qiang's, but what were supposed to be their heads had become two stone heads.

I even saw the stone head's eyes move.

"Let's get out of here first!" Liu Danchen said as he protected us and we retreated.

All three of them were trembling with fear and unable to move. Old Man Liu was relatively okay, but Young Liu and Zhang Jinbao were so frightened that their legs went limp.

We supported them both and returned to Old Man Liu's house.

Liu Danchen said, "You guys wait here, I'll go take a look outside!"

"No, Master, I will go wherever you go." Zhang Jinbao said while pulling Liu Danchen.

Seeing that he refused to let go, Liu Danchen had no choice but to take the three of them with him.
