Chapter 22
I shook my head and looked carefully, and the driver changed back.
My hand couldn't help but grab Zheng Yunyun's arm. She frowned but didn't wake up.
At that moment, I saw a group of people holding a funeral on the side of the road. As everyone knows, funerals usually take place during the day, but they were doing it at night. There were no trumpets or drums in this group; just four people carrying a coffin, one in front scattering paper money, and two boys and girls standing behind her.
The one throwing money in the front was an old lady wearing a headscarf, a mandarin jacket, and small shoes with pointed tips, like those worn in ancient times for foot binding. Behind her were two boys and girls, with red circles painted on their cheeks and red lips, and expressionless faces.
As we drove by, the old lady leading the group looked at us. My eyes met hers, and she suddenly picked up a handful of paper money and threw it at us.
I was a little scared, so I turned my head and leaned on Zheng Yunyun's shoulder, not looking at them.
Mao Jianming noticed that something was wrong with my condition at this time and urged the driver to drive faster.
So the driver stepped on the accelerator and the speed of the car increased immediately. I looked up as I saw them being left far behind.
But as we drove on, I realized something was wrong. I looked at my watch and realized we had been driving on this road for three or four hours. We should have reached the foot of Longhu Mountain a long time ago, but the road still seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see.
Looking at the endless darkness ahead, the headlights seemed dim and without light. We were like prey, driving into the devil's mouth.
I was just about to ask the driver why they hadn't arrived yet, but I looked out the window and saw another funeral procession appearing in front of the car.
I was still wondering why so many people died today. When the car approached them, I saw clearly that this was the same group of people as before.
But we had clearly passed them just now, and at the current speed, there was no way they could catch up with us, let alone come towards us.
I screamed and the driver quickly stepped on the brakes. They both turned around and looked at me.
I was so scared that I huddled close to Zheng Yunyun, covered my face with my hands, and avoided looking at the group of people.
"What's wrong!" Mao Jianming looked at me nervously and said.
I pointed outside.
They all looked out the window, then turned back to me and said, "What's going on out there?"
"There's a ghost." I said fearfully.
"Little girl, don't talk nonsense. I have to drive back by myself soon." said the driver.
The driver and Mao Jianming couldn't see them at all.
"Master, let's drive faster." At this time, the driver may have noticed that my condition was not right, and continued to drive towards Longhu Mountain.
I took out my cell phone and saw that the map navigation showed we were getting closer and closer to Longhu Mountain, which made me feel a lot more at ease.
When I arrived at Longhu Mountain, I was completely relieved.
Longhu Mountain is a Taoist holy place, and no evil spirits dare to approach it, which means we are very safe now.
After we paid the driver the fare, he left in a hurry.
It was already midnight, and going up the mountain was a bit of a hassle. We pulled out our phones, turned on the flashlights, and started walking towards the Tianshi Mansion.
The journey was smooth, and we arrived at the gate of the Tianshi Mansion. Two Taoist children were napping there, so I didn't go up to wake them up. Instead, I led Mao Jianming and Zheng Yunyun straight into the Tianshi Mansion.
I treated Tianshi Mansion as if it were my home. After settling Mao Jianming down, Zheng Yunyun insisted on sleeping with me.
So I took her to Erma's room.
I stood outside the door and knocked several times. There was obvious resentment in her voice, and she said impatiently, "Who is it, knocking on the door in the middle of the night?"
"I, open the door quickly!" I couldn't help but laugh. As Master Zhang's last disciple, her temper was getting worse and worse.
But it’s really not her fault. No one would be in a good mood if they were woken up when they were sleeping soundly.
Erma recognized it was me and asked, "Sister?"
"It's me, open the door for me."
I heard the sound of her shoes, then the lights in the room came on, and within seconds the door opened.
Now she is wearing pajamas, and you can see her graceful figure.
She saw Zheng Yunyun following behind me and said, "Come in first."
The two of us entered her room. She looked at Zheng Yunyun's wrist, then reached out and grabbed it, taking the evil-repelling bead off her wrist. She angrily said to me, "Sister, this is a gift from me to you. How could you give it to someone else?"
Zheng Yunyun was very embarrassed at this time, which must have been related to Li Bin, because the two had a very unpleasant quarrel when they met last time.
Seeing her like this, I quickly said ingratiatingly, "I know, this is a special case."
I hugged her arms.
I coaxed Erma and then winked at Zheng Yunyun. She immediately put on a pitiful look and stood in front of Erma.
Erma deliberately left her alone. I pushed Erma's arm and said, "I need help from you!"
"Hmph, I'm helping you today for my sister's sake. Tell me what's the matter." Erma said proudly.
The two of us told Erma everything that happened after our trip to Eshan.
She frowned, thinking.
The room fell into silence, with only the sounds of our three breathing.
Erma yawned and said, "You were destined to have this disaster, but luckily you met my sister, so you were able to turn the danger into a blessing. Logically speaking, you should have died today."
Erma was right. If Mao Jianming hadn't dragged me to Zheng Yunyun's apartment this morning, she would have jumped off the building given her dazed state at the time.
"But since you have already arrived at the Tianshi Mansion, you have overcome this disaster. It is too late today. I will prepare it tomorrow and help you get rid of the evil ghost." Erma said.
I was delighted to hear Erma agree to help. Zheng Yunyun also bowed in thanks, and her frown relaxed noticeably.
"Then I'll have to trouble our little Erma." I said with a smile.
Erma rolled her eyes at me and said, "Sister, why are you so careless? You haven't even taken care of your own business yet, and you're already thinking about helping others."
"You figured it out?!" I asked in surprise.
"If I can't even see this, then all these years of studying Taoism would have been in vain." Erma said confidently.
Zheng Yunyun didn't know that I had also encountered a life-haunting ghost. She was surprised to hear me tell her everything about the female ghost in red.
"Your matter looks simple, but it is actually quite difficult to handle." Erma said thoughtfully.
"If it's a vicious ghost like the one she encountered, I can just destroy it directly, but it's obvious that she wants something from you." Erma pointed at Zheng Yunyun and looked at me.
"You need something from me? How can you ask for something like that? You scared me half to death. I almost got into a car accident on the way because of her."
"She's trying to warn you about the dangers of oncoming traffic."
After hearing Erma say this, I thought about it for a moment, and it seemed to be true. The place where the car accident happened was a large bend. If we had waited until we entered the bend before hitting it, and the driver was driving under the influence at the time, we would have been directly hit and thrown out.
"That's what I say, but how can I help her?" I asked puzzled.
