"Although the experts concluded that there was a possibility of a major flood, I believe our emergency response plan is still effective."
Just then, Old Lin came over.
"Zhou Guangjie, Professor Li," Old Lin said politely, shaking hands with them. "You two have made invaluable contributions to developing this flood prediction model!"
"I don't deserve it." Li Mingfei tilted his head.
"Let's go inside and talk," Old Lin said, gesturing for them to come in.
These are extraordinary times, a time when talent is in high demand. These high-ranking officials have changed their attitudes toward the water resources bureau and meteorological experts.
However, Mr. Lin's attitude was always amiable, and his enthusiasm for the Water Resources Bureau and the Meteorological Department was simply to express his concern for this matter.
Upon entering the main conference hall, it was already packed with people.
Many of the attendees were representatives from township governments. They had rushed to the meeting after receiving the notice, unaware of what was happening. So when the water resources bureau staff displayed the flood model they had investigated on the big screen, these township representatives looked completely bewildered.
After Li Mingfei's explanation, the attendees finally understood that a major flood was about to occur in the Yangtze River basin, and the purpose of this meeting was to mobilize all available resources to jointly deal with the flood.
The main council hall was solemn and dignified. Several media outlets from the central government took photos of the meeting attendees with their long lenses and microphones.
About two hours later, Professor Li Mingfei finally gave the public a popular explanation of all the data they had obtained from their investigation.
Subsequently, all townships and units expressed their determination to fully cooperate with the Water Resources Bureau and the meteorological department to jointly combat this severe flood disaster.
Because of the importance of the matter, the meeting was chaired mainly by experts and scholars. The experts disdained any fancy formalities, so they did not shout slogans at all. Instead, they presented the grim situation to everyone and urged all departments to take it seriously as soon as possible.
After the meeting, Mr. Lin took Zhou Guangjie and Li Mingfei to his office.
"Please have a seat, both experts!"
After a meeting that lasted for more than two hours, Mr. Lin still looked tense and dared not relax for a moment. "I heard that the expert group's prediction for this catastrophic flood is very bad. In terms of scale, this catastrophic flood will affect hundreds of millions of residents."
“Zhou Guangjie, Professor Li,” Old Lin paused for a moment, then continued, “this is no small sum.”
When Secretary Wang received the data from the expert group, Old Lin couldn't believe it. According to the expert group's prediction, the affected area in the entire Yangtze River basin alone had reached 300 million mu, and the affected population was 100 million.
This does not include the number of people who were seriously injured or even killed in the disaster.
If this flood prediction model comes true, the economic losses it will bring to the Yangtze River basin are something that Mr. Lin dares not even imagine.
