"Who said we were going to give you two the cold shoulder?" Chen Dong deliberately asked Afang, "Did you say that?"
Afang hurriedly shook her head, "I didn't say anything."
"Hmph." Chen Dong sneered, "Gentlemen, you came to our company without an appointment, so you should have been prepared to be turned away."
"Besides, this is hardly a rejection. My secretary is receiving you both, isn't she?"
He sighed and said with some helplessness, "Since you're here, let's get down to business."
At this point, Yang Fugui calmed down, saying, "After discussing with several Hong Kong government economic advisors, our Chief Executive came up with a few solutions and wants to discuss with Dragon Tech to explore cooperation opportunities."
Chen Dong frowned, and judging from his posture, it seemed that he was not going to readily agree to his conditions.
"Which plans? Tell me about them all," Chen Dong asked calmly.
"First, in the name of the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, US$10 billion was borrowed from offshore companies of financial institutions under Dragonlink."
Hearing this, Chen Dong couldn't help but sneer, "What about time?"
"The period is... three months." Du Xingzhi knew that President Chen would definitely not approve of this plan, so he was a little nervous when he added his comments.
"Of course, we won't let Longteng lend money for nothing. We will add 5% to 10% interest to the lending rate. This is a reward for Longteng's outstanding contribution to maintaining the Hong Kong stock market."
Yang Fugui, accustomed to his superior position, tried to put on airs like he did in the Finance Department when he came to Chen Dong. Naturally, Chen Dong wouldn't fall for it.
"What nonsense are you spouting?" Chen Dong was speechless at the other person's words.
His proposal to cooperate with the Hong Kong government was entirely motivated by a desire to safeguard the relationship between the mainland and Hong Kong.
If Chen Dong cared about that 5% interest, he certainly wouldn't have looked favorably upon the Financial Secretary and the Monetary Authority.
"It doesn't matter who I lend this money to. If I lend it to an international hedge fund, do you think they'll lower my interest rate?" Chen Dong reminded him.
This statement effectively shut Yang Fugui and Du Xingzhi up.
Chen Dong sighed inwardly, thinking that he must have flaunted his wealth in front of Du Xingzhi a few days ago, and now they were taking advantage of the situation to try and borrow money from Long Teng.
Showing off his wealth was his bargaining chip to gain the trust of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, but who knew they would take advantage of him and start eyeing his HK$100 billion.
Naturally, with these two bigwigs and the promised interest rate of 5% to 10%, if he were to lend this money out, then regardless of the outcome of the war between Hong Kong and international financial giants and international hedge funds, Longteng would be guaranteed to make a profit.
Chen Dong frankly told the two, "Longteng is not without other channels to absorb this funding."
“When I proposed to cooperate with the Hong Kong government and offered to be the one to intervene in the stock market, I was really only considering the social benefits and a company’s financial responsibility.”
Yang Fugui and Du Xingzhi were truly surprised that Chen Dong would say these things to them.
Of course, Chen Dong wasn't a fool. There was another reason why he didn't agree to lend the HK$100 billion: even if the Financial Secretary and the Monetary Authority offered a high interest rate, if they failed to protect the market in the future, all he would get in return would be a pile of worthless paper.
When the government intervenes in the stock market, it is always constrained by various restrictions. Chen Dong was also afraid that the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's market protection measures would not be able to protect Hong Kong in the end.
He immediately stated his position: "LongTong already has the freedom to enter and exit Hong Kong stocks. Based on past operating returns, the leverage would be ten or even a hundred times higher than it is now."
"If we were so concerned about a mere interbank lending rate, why would I need to discuss the specifics of the operation with the authorities?" Chen Dong asked.
Yang Fugui, having been rebuffed, finally fell silent.
“We have a second plan,” Du Xingzhi said with a grin. “The Hong Kong government needs a large amount of Hong Kong dollars in cash, while Longteng’s offshore company needs an official title to leverage. In the end, it’s a win-win situation for both of us.”
"I don't think so," Chen Dong sneered.
"I need official support, but I only value the authority of the government. Even without the Hong Kong government's guarantee, I can use the media power under Kwok Ping-cheung's control to create public opinion and spread news that is either bad or good for the stock market, which will achieve the same effect."
Du Xingzhi was taken aback, then chuckled and looked at Chen Dong, "If the leading stock gets trapped in the Hong Kong stock market in the future, it will be difficult to get out later."
"Doesn't Mr. Chen want to leave a way out for the offshore company?"
"Is the Hong Kong government guaranteed to win?" Chen Dong retorted. "What are the chances that your official actions will lead to victory?"
Upon hearing this, Yang Fugui immediately curled his lip and said, "Our Monetary Authority and Financial Secretary have experienced several crises, and we are still sitting here calmly. This shows that the official measures are still effective."
Chen Dong quickly realized what was going on, picked up the teacup beside him, and gently blew on it to warm it. "If the Hong Kong stock market were truly stable, you two wouldn't need to come here."
"you!"
He successfully angered Yang Fugui.
Am I wrong?
Standing to the side, Ah Fang watched Chen Dong handle the two financial tycoons from Hong Kong with such ease, and a feeling of boundless admiration welled up within her.
Yang Fugui recovered and said, "This time, we will also seek help from the mainland. The mainland's support for our foreign exchange reserves will only increase, not decrease."
"Really?" Chen Dong looked at Du Xingzhi with a smile.
Only then did Yang Fugui notice that Du Xingzhi was sitting next to him, looking troubled.
