Chapter 1134 Merging the Dragon

Afang nervously held Chen Dong's hand.

"We'll be alright, right?" She came here for disaster relief; she never imagined she would lose her life here.

"Don't worry, I'm here."

Chen Dong thought to himself that during the massive flood in his previous life, his ancestors must have risked their lives to hold up the dikes, preventing the flood from spreading further.

As he watched the surging river waters flow into Poyang Lake, Chen Dong felt even more worried.

It had rained for a week, and the dikes of Poyang Lake remained intact, but the city was already flooded with water up to knee-deep. Now that the dikes have collapsed, the river is raging and flooding into Poyang Lake. I wonder what will happen to the city.

An hour later, more than a dozen dump trucks came running from a distance, and the few lone militiamen standing on the high platform seemed to see a glimmer of hope.

"The soldiers from the Army Region have come to rescue us!"

The dump trucks temporarily divided the entire embankment into two lanes: one lane for delivering sandbags and the other lane for empty trucks.

But truckload after truckload of sandbags were thrown in, yet not a trace was left; the sandbags were washed away by the flood as soon as they were thrown in.

"This won't work, it's too inefficient," Chen Dong said worriedly.

The dikes on both sides have been expanded to 900 meters. They stood on the high platform and shouted loudly, but no matter how loudly they shouted, no one on the other side could hear them.

The company commander asked the first batch of reinforcements, "How many people are trapped on the high platform?"

"There are seven or eight in total, and one of them is the big boss of Longteng."

"The big boss of Longteng?" The company commander bit his lip and said blankly, "What's he doing here causing trouble?"

"We're currently engaged in flood relief efforts here. Is this a place for these businessmen to put on a show?! They've even gotten themselves into trouble!"

"What's going on?"

The first group of officers and soldiers who arrived, seeing that the company commander still looked down on this big boss, couldn't help but offer an explanation on his behalf:

"Company commander, he was the first to discover the piping on the dam. If he hadn't insisted that we go into the water to check, we wouldn't have discovered such a huge crisis underneath, and we wouldn't have been able to request support from the 17th Company in time."

"Then why did he run up to the high platform to hide?" the company commander asked.

At this moment, the militia captain next to him couldn't stand it anymore and immediately explained to the company commander, "The piping breach is expanding too fast. Just as we were preparing to plug the breach, the dam collapsed. They and a few militiamen ran to the high platform in a panic."

The company commander sighed, turned around and saw the team carrying sandbags, still passing them around one by one.

"Alright, alright! Stop it, everyone!"

"At this rate, when will you be able to rescue them?"

The company commander turned around, glanced at the dump truck behind him, gritted his teeth, and immediately said, "Fill this truck with sandbags and pile them all on the front of the truck."

Upon hearing the order from their company commander, the soldiers below speculated, "Company commander, do you want to push the whole vehicle off the road?"

"This is the best way. The vehicle itself has counterweight, and it's loaded with so many sandbags. I don't believe the flood can wash it away!"

"Quickly move the sandbags."

As they were talking, the company commander and all the retired militia veterans threw the remaining sandbags onto the dump truck, while several dump trucks that had come to provide support waited outside.

Seeing that they had stopped throwing sandbags into the water, Afang asked nervously, "What does this mean? Are they not going to save us?"

Chen Dong shook his head, but couldn't help but smile. "On the contrary, they will have to pay a huge price to save us."

"Could it be that they're trying to push the car off?" several militiamen asked in surprise.

As they spoke, the entire platform began to sway slightly.

Chen Dong peeked out and calmly said, "The outer ring of this platform is mud, and the inner ring is cement, but the cement is probably not strong enough, so it is very fragile and will fall apart when washed by water."

"Holy crap! Can this thing even be used as a dam?!"

At this moment, several militiamen felt a noticeable shaking, and panic was spreading. "Which bastard built this dam?"

"The breach that just experienced piping was also instantly washed away."

"Is there even a question? It's a shoddy construction project."

"It's over! We weren't destroyed by the flood, but we're going to be destroyed by a shoddy construction project."

The waters of the Yangtze River keep rushing into Poyang Lake, and then, following the wind, they crash against the high platform, which is now very fragile.

However, Chen Dong turned his head to look at the dozen or so dump trucks on the opposite bank, where the company commander and a group of officers and soldiers were still adding weight to the dump trucks.

"Stop pretending, hurry up and save them!"

Several militiamen couldn't stand it anymore. Their company commander probably didn't know about their situation. The militiamen waved their hands anxiously, trying to get them to hurry up.

The shaking beneath their feet was becoming increasingly noticeable. Afang sighed in despair, her right hand tightly gripping Chen Dong's. "Stop shouting, they can't hear you."

At this moment, Chen Dong's gaze fell on the four pillars of the platform. There were a total of eight people here. If each pillar could support two people, then all eight of them could lie on the pillars.

"Take these four pillars down." Chen Dong let go of Afang's hand, patted the pillars to feel their weight, and said, "If they can't save us in time, we can cling to the pillars and drift with the flood to a place closer to the shore."

Upon hearing this, the militiamen immediately sprang into action. Some of them took the last remaining hemp rope, tied it to the pillar, and the eight men each held one end of the rope, pulling it down like a saw, chanting in unison.
