Chapter 1142 An Even More Important Mission!

“Brother Chen, you’re ordered to leave. I’m a soldier and I have to obey orders.” He explained as he shoved Chen Dong into the open-top military vehicle.

Chen Dong got into the car, still very indignant. "Company commander, who gave this order?"

“I have a very close relationship with Old Lin. They dared to kick me out of the front line of flood control. Aren’t they afraid I’ll complain to my superiors?”

The company commander waved his hand, signaling the driver to start the engine. He then shouted at Chen Dong, "Since you have such strong connections, once you get there, have them send you back."

"This..." Chen Dong sat in the car, watching the company commander's departing figure, feeling a surge of irritation.

He knew that no matter what, there was no way to persuade the soldier to disobey orders and leave him behind. At this moment, he turned to the two officers and soldiers who were "escorting" him and asked, "Who sent you to take me away?"

The officers and soldiers sat upright, seemingly instructed by someone, resolutely refusing to speak.

"You have to tell me where you're taking me, right?" Chen Dong reluctantly took a step back.

The officers and soldiers remained silent.

After two or three hours of travel, Chen Dong was surprised to see familiar scenery outside the car.

"Poyang Lake County?"

Chen Dong thought to himself, if the Poyang Lake County Committee wanted to take him away, they wouldn't have made such a big show of it.

At this moment, the car stopped in front of an unfamiliar commercial building.

The two soldiers immediately got out of the car. Chen Dong heard the soldiers reporting the situation to someone inside the car. He stuck half his head out and saw a high-ranking military officer he did not recognize.

Strangely, the officer did not greet him after seeing him, but instead walked in the opposite direction.

Chen Dong got out of the car and saw that the entire Poyang Lake County was flooded up to knee-deep. The massive flood had not yet officially ravaged the entire Yangtze River basin.

Poyang Lake County experienced nearly a week of torrential rainfall, coupled with the influx of water from several major rivers to the north and the Yangtze River flooding at Hukou, making the entire county the first to experience urban flooding.

Even so, only the train station and other low-lying areas in the county town were flooded up to the knees.

There haven't been any major rainfalls for several days now, but the floodwaters from the upper reaches of the Yangtze River are still flowing downstream. Poyang Lake hasn't released water on a large scale, so the entire county is bearing the pressure of flood diversion.

The commercial building where they were located was situated at the highest point in the county town.

"Chen Dong".

He heard someone call his name, turned around, and was surprised to see Old Lin's figure.

"Old Lin?!" Chen Dong exclaimed in surprise, "What brings you here?"

Old Lin twitched the corners of his mouth, his face darkening, and said, "Come upstairs with me."

After going upstairs, Chen Dong felt an unprecedented sense of refreshment. During this period, not to mention Xingzi Station, there were very few places in the county town where there was electricity and fans.

The weather was already very hot in late July. Chen Dong saw several buckets of ice on the second floor of the commercial building, and several large ceiling fans were running. It was very comfortable to sit there.

"Old Lin is really enjoying himself," Chen Dong remarked.

Old Lin turned around and explained, "Just now, the comrades from the national expert group, the researchers from the School of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua and Peking Universities, the comrades from the Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, the Minister of Emergency Response of Poyang County, the battalion commander from the Eastern Theater Command, and several company commanders all came here for a meeting."

"I was worried that there would be too many people and it would be too hot, so I asked them to put so many blocks of ice here."

Chen Dong had just been marveling at Old Master Lin's extravagance, but his attention was quickly drawn to the impressive lineup of attendees at the meeting.

"So many people have come, are they all here to discuss flood control?" Chen Dong asked.

In a calm tone, Mr. Lin said, "The country is paying close attention to the major floods in the Poyang Lake system, the Dongting Lake system, and the Jingdezhen area in Anhui, as well as urban flooding. In the past few days, we have held meetings in the areas most severely affected by the floods to discuss and formulate different emergency response measures based on the different geographical environments of each place."

"Today it's Poyang Lake's turn. I heard you were nearby and participated in the rescue efforts on the front lines, so I came here in person this time."

Upon hearing this, Chen Dong was flattered and said, "Old Lin is really righteous. He knows how hard I work fighting the floods and he still thinks of me."

After saying that, Chen Dong realized, "So those soldiers who dragged me into the car were all doing it on your orders?"

He couldn't believe it at all. "Why? And why all the secrecy?"

Old Lin went up to the second floor, found a seat, and waved his hand, signaling Chen Dong to sit down and start talking as well.

"Chen Dong, I'm asking you, do you know who you are?"

The question left Chen Dong speechless. He cautiously replied, "Boss Longteng."

Do you know what kind of social responsibility you bear on your shoulders?

Chen Dong was familiar with this issue: "Of course, it's flood control and disaster relief, providing relief supplies to people in disaster areas."

Mr. Lin seemed unsatisfied with the answer, and he casually took a few documents from his secretary and handed them to Chen Dong.

“During your absence, Soros frantically sold off Hong Kong dollars in Hong Kong, causing Hong Kong residents to lose nearly one-tenth of their assets.”

"Across the entire Hong Kong stock market, the assets of large and medium-sized listed companies in industries such as real estate, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and shipbuilding have evaporated by an average of 0.9%."

“They are now sitting at the doorstep of Hong Kong, eating meat and drinking blood, with no restraint.”

After sighing, Old Lin said with a hint of disappointment, "In order to preserve the reputation of Hong Kong as a free port, the government is hesitant to directly intervene in the stock market."
