Chapter 360 Someone Submitted a Science Fiction Work

After the meeting ended, Lin Yifeng didn't care much about these things.

He has already handled most of the matters; all that's left is to hand them over to them for steady operation.

Two days later, Lin Yifeng sat in his office reviewing the company's financial reports, preparing to tally up the cash flow.

Just then, the landline on the table rang.

Lin Yifeng picked up the phone and heard Liu Shengxing's nervous voice on the other end.

"Xiaolin, are you there? I need to talk to you about something."

Lin Yifeng frowned slightly as he listened to Liu Shengxing's tone.

"Something troublesome?"

Liu Shengxing on the other end of the phone hesitated for a moment.

After a moment of silence, he nodded helplessly.

"Um."

"This matter is not easy to handle."

"It's about our newspaper."

These words left Lin Yifeng somewhat puzzled.

Newspaper problems?

With Liu Shengxing now in charge and Lin Yifeng's connections in various cities, the newspaper can be described as having impeccable roots. As long as it continues to operate steadily, becoming a provincial newspaper is just around the corner.

What else could possibly affect the newspaper?

Liu Shengxing's words also made Lin Yifeng a little uneasy.

"Someone submitted an article."

"I'd like to submit a science fiction novel to our newspaper."

"Xiao Lin, you should come over when you have time."

Upon hearing this, Lin Yifeng dared not delay any longer and repeatedly gave instructions.

"Wait for me to come over."

That same day, Lin Yifeng drove to Shanyang City to see what was going on.

Upon arriving at the newspaper office, Lin Yifeng saw Liu Shengxing smoking one cigarette after another. The ashtray on the table was already overflowing with cigarette butts, and there was an empty cigarette pack on the edge of the table.

Needless to say, Lin Yifeng could tell at a glance just how worried Liu Shengxing was.

This matter is not only a concern for Liu Shengxing, but even Lin Yifeng is feeling somewhat troubled.

Science fiction may sound simple, but for Liu Shengxing, a veteran newspaper writer, it's not so simple at all.

If it were ten years from now, and a science fiction novel were published, probably nothing would happen.

However, if this were in the 1990s, it would involve matters of principle.

Ten years ago, in 1980, a dramatic upheaval occurred in the domestic literary circle, with science fiction novels being labeled as "spiritual pollution."

The campaign to eliminate spiritual pollution at that time dealt a severe blow to the science fiction industry, so much so that many authors of that era were forced to stop writing and eventually faded out of the circle.

As a result, many publishing houses specializing in science fiction disappeared, and the country entered a decade-long period of stagnation.

The shrinking of publishing houses, coupled with the fact that publishing houses that had experienced that era, meant that almost no one dared to accept such manuscripts.

With this hot potato falling into Liu Shengxing's hands, how could he not be worried?

"How's it going?"

Lin Yifeng sat down next to him and picked up a first draft to read.

Liu Shengxing looked at the manuscript in Lin Yifeng's hand and sighed deeply.

"very good."

"This person is very capable."

"I quite like this, it's just..."

Liu Shengxing didn't elaborate further, but both he and Lin Yifeng knew very well that this thing was a taboo.

So many years have passed, and nobody knows if this storm has passed or not.

If the controversy doesn't die down and someone uses this as an excuse, the newspaper will suffer, but Liu Shengxing is more worried that it will cause Lin Yifeng considerable trouble.

Even if Liu Shengxing liked the manuscript, whether it could be published depended on whether Lin Yifeng would agree.

Lin Yifeng flipped through the previous content.

The story is very simple: an astronaut returns to Earth and finds it ruled by a new species.

It can be said that this manuscript represented the most mainstream science fiction genre at the time.

Most importantly, the narrative style is excellent, including the various events that need to be explained, as well as the philosophical depth.

"That's really good."

Who wrote this novel?

"Did you provide a pen name?"

Faced with Lin Yifeng's questioning, Liu Shengxing didn't say much, but simply handed Lin Yifeng an envelope.

Lin Yifeng looked through the envelope and found the address.

"Our Central Plains?"

"This guy..."

"who?!"

"Wang Jinkang?"

Lin Yifeng gasped when he saw the sender's name.

Many people today may be unfamiliar with this name, but if you were to list all the titles this person will have in the future, it would be quite frightening.

The two most important awards are the Galaxy International Science Fiction Awards in 1997 and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Science Fiction Nebula, the highest honor in Chinese science fiction.

Seeing Lin Yifeng's shock, Liu Shengxing asked him in confusion.

"Have you heard of him?"

Lin Yifeng wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

This is more than just something I've heard of. Back in 1993, the science fiction world was named after him, and it was called the "First Year of Wang Jinkang."

Not to mention the novel in my hand, which won numerous awards in 1993 and won the Galaxy Award in an international competition in 1997.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that this person was a leading figure in science fiction in the 1990s.

"What's the name of this novel?"

"It seems to be called..."

Liu Shengxing rummaged through the table and quickly found a single sheet of paper among the manuscripts.
