Assassinating the Princess
"Interesting!" Li Jinghe said with great interest.
Su Yuexing had a nightmare and was covered in sweat. When she opened her eyes, it was already daylight outside.
She got out of bed, still shaken, and said, "I have a bad feeling about this."
A shadow suddenly appeared, and Xue knelt on the ground, respectfully saying, "Xue! I swear to serve my master to the death!"
Su Yuexing was startled by the sudden appearance of the person and asked in confusion, "Aren't you one of Li Jinghe's men? How did you suddenly appear in my house?"
Xue explained, "Li Jinghe was my former master, but now you are my only master!"
Su Yuexing raised an eyebrow and frowned as she looked at the person in front of her. What exactly did Li Jinghe want to do?
Why would they place someone by my side? Is it to spy on me? Thinking this, Su Yuexing's eyes darkened. Yes! That must be it!
He did this to spy on me! Su Yuexing pursed her lips and said, "Go back to where you came from!"
Snow didn't speak, and vanished in a flash.
Su Yuexing looked around in shock. Running so fast?
"Wouldn't it be great if she were willing to help me?" Su Yuexing shook her head, patted her face, and said, "What are you thinking? She's Li Jinghe's woman!"
"You still have to rely on yourself for everything!" she encouraged herself.
After finishing her meal, Su Yuexing disguised herself and went to the princess's residence, where she saw the little beggar not far away.
She walked over with a smile, squatted down in front of him, and said, "Little boss, what news do you have?"
The eldest brother said with a smug look, "Of course!"
"You've come at the right time. I just happened to have some news for you, so I don't have to make a trip to the Dream Palace."
Just as Su Yuexing was about to say that she had already left Mengfu and that she could send messages directly to the inn from now on, he interrupted her.
The young master said, "The princess plans to go to the Pegasus Temple in an hour to pray for the consort's mother."
Su Yuexing's eyes turned cold; this was a good opportunity!
She took out some silver from her bosom and placed it in his hand, saying, "This is a reward for you!"
The young leader's eyes lit up, and he excitedly put a small piece of silver in his mouth and bit it. "You're quite generous!" he said, putting the silver into his pocket.
Su Yuexing said smugly, "If you do a good job, I certainly won't treat you unfairly!"
The eldest brother leaned closer and asked, "Why are you so curious about the Princess's residence?"
Su Yuexing glanced at him sideways and said, "What? Why are you suddenly asking about me?"
The eldest brother laughed and said, "Aren't you just Young Master Li's wife? Your family is just an ordinary farming household. What's there to ask about?"
Su Yuexing forced a smile and said, "Do you know a saying?"
The eldest brother shook his head and said, "What are you saying?"
"The more you know, the faster you die?" Su Yuexing said quietly.
Her serious expression startled the eldest son, who covered his mouth, his eyes wide with terror.
Su Yuexing chuckled and said, "You have your moments of fear too. Judging from your courage, I thought you were fearless."
The young master said, "Don't scare me, it hasn't been easy for me to live this long."
"And if you kill me, the Beggars' Sect leader will definitely not let you off!"
Su Yuexing pinched his cheek and laughed, "I was just kidding! You're so cute, how could I bear to kill you?"
"Besides, I've never killed anyone, I just wanted to scare you."
She stood up and said, "Alright! I won't tease you anymore!"
"I have important business to attend to. You stay here and rest!" he said before leaving.
The young leader's eyes darted around, and he secretly followed them.
Su Yuexing went to the market and bought a bow and arrow specially used by hunters.
She lay in ambush on the way to the temple, and seeing that there were many guards around the sedan chair, she hesitated for a moment.
Su Yuexing frowned, realizing she hadn't expected her to bring so many people. But if she let this opportunity slip by, she didn't know when she would get another chance.
As she pondered, a sharp arrow shot from the shadows toward the guards. "Assassin! Protect the princess!" The crowd quickly surrounded the sedan chair.
They looked around warily. Su Yuexing glanced around and frowned. It seemed that someone in the capital also wanted the princess dead.
Immediately afterwards, another arrow struck the guard, and twenty or thirty men rushed out, their faces covered with black masks and their hands holding swords, and attacked the guard.
Princess Changyang nervously gripped her handkerchief and asked, "Xiao Cui, what's the situation outside?"
The maid Xiao Cui rushed over upon hearing the noise, but as soon as she lifted the carriage curtain, she froze.
Princess Changyang gasped in surprise, covering her mouth and staring wide-eyed at the blood-stained sword inside her abdomen. "Xiao Cui!" she cried out, trembling.
The masked man shoved Xiao Cui aside, held a blood-stained knife to her neck, and demanded, "Princess Changyang?"
Princess Changyang felt emboldened upon realizing he recognized her. "Knowing you're the princess, you still dare to be so presumptuous? You must have a death wish!"
The masked man chuckled and said viciously, "I dared to kidnap a princess, so why would I care about my own life?"
The guards outside had all been wiped out by them. The masked man knocked her unconscious with a single blow and carried her on his shoulder.
"Boss! There's a woman here!"
Su Yuexing was startled. She saw a masked man pointing at her from under the tree.
She immediately shot an arrow down, and the masked man reacted quickly, dodging to the side.
The masked leader handed Princess Changyang to his men to carry, and brought her to the foot of the tree.
Looking up at Su Yuexing, she quickly shot the arrow in her hand at him again.
Seeing him easily dodge, Su Yuexing knew that this group of people were not to be trifled with. With a burst of strength, she used the vines to swing to a nearby tree.
The leader of the men in black used his lightness skill to follow behind her. The two chased each other, and Su Yuexing even took the opportunity to shoot a few arrows behind her, but he luckily dodged them all.
The man in black flipped over and appeared in front of Su Yuexing, a cold sword pressed against her neck. "Where do you think you're going to run to?"
Su Yuexing didn't dare to move. Looking at the sword in his hand, she said, "I'm just passing by and don't want to get involved."
The man in black said menacingly, "Do you think I'd believe that?"
The little boss, hiding in the shadows, shook her head helplessly. She really didn't know how to hide herself, which was why she was discovered.
Su Yuexing swallowed hard and asked, "What do you want?"
The man in black sized her up, a lewd smile creeping across his eyes, and said, "Guards! Take him away!"
Su Yuexing had a hood over her head and was escorted by them the whole way.
The little beggar looked worried. Should I save this woman?
She gave him money; it would be such a pity if he died. So he ran to the Dream Palace.
"Get out! Where did this beggar come from? This is not a place you can come to!" The gatekeeper shooed him away.
The eldest brother said pitifully, "I need to speak with Young Master Li. Could you please go in and inform him?"
The gatekeeper scoffed, "If you want me to go, I'll just go. Wouldn't that make me lose face? Even a little beggar can order me around."
As he spoke, he rubbed his fingers together with the young leader, his intention to ask for money was crystal clear.
The eldest brother remembered that he still had the silver Su Yuexing had just given him. He hesitated for a moment, then reluctantly took out the silver from his pocket and placed it in the servant's palm. "This is all I have."
The servant looked at the loose silver in his hand, but didn't seem to mind, and immediately put it into his pocket. "You wait here!"
The young leader's face lit up with joy, and he said, "Great!"
Li Jinghe had just finished drinking his medicine when he heard a beggar outside looking for him. He asked in confusion, "Did he say what he wanted with me?"
The servant shook his head and said, "No, but judging from his expression, he seemed quite anxious."
"If the young master does not wish to see him, I would like to send him away now."
Li Jinghe raised his hand and said, "No need."
"He's just a beggar; it won't hurt to see him."
The young master was led to the Dream Mansion by a servant. Along the way, he couldn't help but exclaim in his heart, "This place is so big! So magnificent! I wish I had a house this big!"
Li Jinghe was slightly surprised when he saw the person who had arrived; he had seen him before outside the Princess's residence.
He took a sip of tea and said casually, "What brings you here?"
The eldest brother rolled his eyes and said, "It's related to your wife's affairs."
Li Jinghe's hand unconsciously tightened as he asked, "What's wrong with her?"
The little beggar said calmly, "I just spent all my money trying to see you." He glanced indifferently at the servant beside him.
The servant panicked and immediately knelt on the ground, saying, "Young master! I was wrong! I shouldn't have accepted the bribe!"
Li Jinghe waved his hand casually and said, "You can go now. There's nothing for you to do here."
The servant breathed a sigh of relief, glared at the little beggar, and retreated.
Then, Li Jinghe took out the silver notes he had on him and placed them on the table. "Here are two hundred taels. I don't know if that's enough to compensate you."
Upon hearing the mention of two hundred taels of silver, the little beggar's eyes lit up. He was much more generous than that woman! If only he could work for him!
Then wouldn't my Beggars' Sect members no longer need to beg? His mind raced, and soon he had a plan in mind.
He smiled and accepted the silver notes, saying, "That's enough! What Young Master Li has given me is more than enough!"
"Moreover, it's not just enough to buy the information about your wife, but also enough to buy my entire Beggars' Sect to gather information for you, Young Master Li. I wonder if Young Master Li is interested?"
Li Jinghe raised an eyebrow and carefully examined the child in front of him. He was a thoughtful person, and he was currently short-handed. If someone could help him gather information, it would save him a lot of trouble.
Li Jinghe said, "Tell me what news you brought me first, so I can see your value, and then I'll consider what you have to say."
The eldest brother bluntly replied, "Sure!"
"Your wife has been kidnapped by men in black."
"What!" Li Jinghe immediately stood up from his seat and asked, "What's going on?"
The eldest brother recounted what had happened.
Li Jinghe's gaze gradually darkened. Xue was beside Yuexing, so why didn't she step forward to stop it?
Did she betray me too?
The eldest brother asked, "Is this information of any value?"
Li Jinghe looked at him and said, "As long as you help me find out the background of these men in black, I can agree to what you say!"
The eldest brother exclaimed excitedly, "Are you telling the truth?!"
Li Jinghe waved his hands and said, "Do you think I look like someone who's short of money?"
The leader confidently declared, "You just wait! I'll get the information for you right now!"
