Lying gets exposed
Su Yuexing shook her head and said, "I'm not familiar with this place; I've never been here before."
Li Jinghe felt a chill run down his spine. Very well! You lied to me!
Su Yuexing lowered her head and ate wild fruit, out of her sight.
Li Jinghe narrowed his eyes slightly. Why don't you tell me the truth?
An old man was driving an oxcart from a distance. Li Jinghe stopped him and asked, "Excuse me, are there any villages nearby?"
The old man looked at the man in front of him and felt that he was exceptionally noble, while the woman next to him looked somewhat familiar.
Su Yuexing naturally recognized him; he was Uncle Niu, who had watched her grow up. Afraid of being recognized, she casually covered her mouth with her hand.
Don't recognize me! Don't recognize me! Su Yuexing pleaded in her heart.
Uncle Niu slowly pictured the person in his mind and exclaimed excitedly, "You must be the eldest daughter of the Su family!"
Su Yuexing felt helpless. Oh my god! He really recognized her!
Uncle Niu said to Li Jinghe, "Yes, there's a Xikou Village nearby, and the girl next to you is from there!"
After he finished speaking, he realized something was wrong and looked Li Jinghe up and down. "I heard that the eldest daughter of the Su family married the young master of the Li family, who is quite prominent in the county!"
"Could it be that you are?"
Li Jinghe smiled slightly and said, "I am Li Jinghe, the eldest son of the Li family."
Su Yuexing really wanted to run away, but her leg was injured, so she could only force a smile and look up to say, "Hello, Uncle Niu."
"Good, good, good!" Uncle Niu nodded repeatedly.
The moment she met Li Jinghe's gaze, she saw a sinister look in his eyes.
Su Yuexing quickly lowered her head, pretending that she couldn't see it.
Li Jinghe said, "Could you please take us to Xikou Village, sir?"
He deliberately emphasized the last part, "Xikou Village".
“Of course!” the old man readily agreed.
“Uncle, she has difficulty walking. Could you please help me lift her onto the oxcart?” Li Jinghe said.
Uncle Niu asked in confusion, "What happened to the eldest daughter of the Su family's leg?"
Su Yuexing explained, "I accidentally tripped and fell."
The three of them sat on the oxcart and headed towards Xikou Village.
Li Jinghe said leisurely, "I remember someone saying that they were from Xikou Village."
Su Yuexing pursed her lips and remained silent.
Niu Bo, who was standing nearby, said, "I heard that the young master is not in good health, but now it seems that those were just rumors."
Li Jinghe explained, "That's not a rumor; my health is indeed not good."
“But I have been cooperating with the doctor’s treatment diligently, and I will not let anyone remain a widow.” Li Jinghe finished speaking and put his hand on Su Yuexing’s shoulder.
Su Yuexing tried to shake off the grip by moving her shoulders, but Li Jinghe's hand was like a stubborn plaster, holding her shoulders tightly.
With Uncle Niu here, she couldn't afford to lose her temper.
Li Jinghe frowned as he looked at the fork in the road from last night, then smiled and whispered in Su Yuexing's ear, "Tell me, what were you hesitating about last night?"
Su Yuexing remained silent, her fingers clenched tightly. Had he discovered her?
Li Jinghe continued, "Are you afraid of getting into trouble?"
What does he mean by that? Su Yuexing suddenly turned her head to look at him. The two were so close that they could feel each other's breath.
Uncle Niu glanced back and muttered, "These two young people are really shameless."
Su Yuexing's face immediately turned red, and she shrank back.
Li Jinghe snapped out of his daze, sat up straight, and pretended to adjust his cuffs while looking down. The red tips of his ears betrayed his true feelings.
Uncle Niu said slowly, "Su girl, you and your husband are so loving, have you ever thought about that child Liu Jin?"
Li Jinghe keenly sensed something was amiss and asked, "Liu Jin?"
Uncle Niu explained, "Oh! Liu Jin is a scholar! He has a bright future!"
"He went to the capital to take the imperial examination a few months ago, and I heard that he won first place and even married a princess. A few days ago, he also brought his mother to the capital to enjoy a life of luxury."
“Su girl, your parents have been to the capital, they should have told you about it.”
Uncle Niu sighed helplessly and said, "Su girl, this capital city isn't a good place either."
"Back then, when Liu Jin went to the capital to take the imperial examination, he didn't have enough money for the journey. His mother went door to door asking for money, and our village gave him money."
"Now that he's successful, he's forgotten about us and doesn't even bother to come back and visit."
Su Yuexing asked in surprise, "His mother came to ask for money?"
Li Jinghe's gaze fell on Su Yuexing, his expression ambiguous.
Uncle Niu asked in surprise, "You didn't know about this?"
Su Yuexing shook her head and said, "I haven't heard of it."
She was completely oblivious to Li Jinghe beside her, whose face was terribly gloomy, talking about other men right in front of me, and they seemed to be having a great time.
Uncle Niu said with relish, "I guess he's too embarrassed to tell your family. His mother even begged us to keep it a secret."
“Now that he’s successful, he doesn’t care about us anymore, so we’re not going to keep his secrets.”
Why didn't he tell me? That's why he didn't buy the red bean cake I liked that time.
Because all the money he had was begged back by his mother little by little.
"And another thing, I heard that your brother's death was also related to him," Uncle Niu added.
"That doctor was the one who introduced your family!"
Her brother has passed away? Li Jinghe looked at her in shock.
Su Yuexing frowned in suspicion. Could it be that Xiao Bao's death was really related to him?
Perhaps I need to go to the capital to ask them in person to find out the truth.
The oxcart drove into the village entrance, and Uncle Niu took them to the Su family's door.
Li Jinghe carried Su Yuexing out of the car. Uncle Niu wanted to help, but he refused, saying, "No need, I can manage."
Su Yuexing didn't understand why he wouldn't let Uncle Niu help. Seeing him holding her and covered in sweat, she felt guilty, blaming herself for being useless.
"Thank you very much, Uncle Niu," Su Yuexing said gratefully.
"It's alright." Uncle Niu waved his hand and drove away.
A girl's cries for help came from the courtyard: "Dad! No! Don't sell me!"
"Honey! Let go of Wei'er!" Su Shi said as he stepped forward.
Su Yuexing's heart tightened. Yuewei! She wanted to get off him, but Li Jinghe said, "Don't move! If you don't want to be unable to walk for the rest of your life, then behave yourself."
Su Yuexing was so frightened that she didn't dare to move.
The door opened from the inside, and Su Shi, dragging Su Yuewei along, exclaimed in shock upon seeing the two people in front of him, "Yuexing! Didn't you already go back?"
Hearing what he said, Li Jinghe sensed something was wrong, frowned, and looked at Su Yuexing in his arms.
Su Yuexing didn't dare to look him in the eye.
"Who are you?" Su Shi asked Li Jinghe.
Li Jinghe calmly replied, "Young Master Li, Li Jinghe."
Su Shi looked shocked, then a smile spread across his face as he cupped his hands and said, "So it's Young Master Li!"
"Please come in! Please come in!" He made way for him.
Li Jinghe's gaze fell on Su Yuewei, and then on the Su family.
Su Yuexing remembered her younger brother's wheelchair and said, "Dad, bring over the wheelchair my brother used to sit in."
Su Shi said irritably, "What are you doing sitting on that thing?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he met Li Jinghe's gaze, and his imposing manner diminished by half.
"I'll go get it for you right now," Su Shi said, turning and leaving.
Madam Su stepped forward and asked with concern, "Xing'er, what happened to you?"
Su Yuexing said casually, "Mom, I'm fine, I just tripped and fell."
"I've brought the things." Su Shi pushed the wheelchair in front of them.
Li Jinghe placed her on the wheelchair, and Su Yuexing couldn't help but tear up when she saw the wheelchair her younger brother used to sit in.
Su Shi said, "You have to pay me ten taels of silver for sitting for an hour!"
"Father!" Su Yuexing exclaimed in disbelief.
"Honey!" Madam Su said with displeasure, "Our daughter finally comes home, and you're trying to ruin her!"
Su Shi said indifferently, "A married daughter is like water spilled from a bowl. She is no longer a daughter of the Su family, but a daughter-in-law of the Li family."
Su Yuexing never expected that her father would turn out like this after entering the capital.
Su Shi continued, "Don't forget, the Li family has a rule that if we meet Xing'er, they will demand double the dowry as compensation!"
Li Jinghe raised an eyebrow; he truly hadn't expected such a thing to happen.
"What's a little money I'm taking from Madam Li now!" Su Shi said smugly.
Su Yuexing clenched her fist and said, "I have no money left."
Su Shi asked incredulously, "No money?"
He raised his head and slowly looked at Li Jinghe. "You don't have money, but that doesn't mean your husband doesn't have money either." After he finished speaking, he stretched out his hand in front of Li Jinghe.
Li Jinghe was about to take out his money when Su Yuexing grabbed his hand and said firmly, "Don't give money to this kind of person."
"You—" Su Shi said angrily, "You won't give it to me, huh?" His gaze fell on little Su Yuewei.
He pulled her close and said, "If you don't give her to me, I'll sell her!"
"Father!" Su Yuewei cried out in fear.
Li Jinghe, his face dark, shouted, "Stop!"
Su Shi paused, and Li Jinghe took out fifty taels of silver and said, "I'll buy your wheelchair!"
When Su Shi saw the silver notes, his eyes widened, and he exclaimed, "Worth it! Worth it!"
After saying that, he stuffed it into his pocket, turned around and left, saying, "Going to drink."
Madam Su sighed helplessly and looked at Li Jinghe, saying, "Young Master Li, I'm sorry to have made you laugh."
Seeing their family's situation, Li Jinghe understood why his father wanted Su Yuexing to sever ties with the Su family.
Su Yuexing asked, "Mom! Where was Dad planning to take Yuewei just now?"
Speaking of this, Madam Su couldn't help but shed tears again, "He planned to sell Yuewei into a brothel!"
Su Yuexing's mind went blank; she couldn't believe her father could do such a thing.
"Why?" Su Yuexing asked, trembling.
Su Yuewei replied, "Because Dad has taken all the money in the house to drink, and I don't earn much, so your dad is thinking..."
Su Yuexing touched her head, feeling a sharp pain.
Su squatted down next to Su Yuexing and pleaded, "Xing'er, don't blame your father. It's all because of what happened to Xiaobao that he was really hurt."
Su Yuexing couldn't believe that if she hadn't come today, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
Li Jinghe didn't care about her family's affairs; he just wanted to know if she had anything to do with the bandits.
Su Yuexing looked up at Li Jinghe, who had been silent the whole time.
He saw the pleading in her eyes and asked, "What is it?"
“
"I want to bring my family to live with the Li family," Su Yuexing said nervously.
Li Jinghe raised an eyebrow and looked at Su Yuewei and Su Shi.
"Xing'er, I won't go. I'm used to living here," Madam Su said.
