Chapter 26 The Roles Are In Place

Tanya shook her head, looking troubled.

"It's okay, I won't force you!"

Wang Qiang was still understanding; he knew things might be complicated here. Well, it's better not to know.

The two exchanged a few words when Lou Bancheng's voice came from outside.

"Quickly, we need to leave now!"

Tan Yali and Wang Qiang went downstairs and saw that Lou Bancheng and Lou Xiao'e had already packed their luggage. When Lou Xiao'e saw Wang Qiang, she couldn't hold back her tears and ran over to him, throwing herself into his arms and crying.

"Let's go quickly, we'll meet again!"

Wang Qiang comforted Lou Xiao'e.

Upon seeing this, Lou Bancheng walked over, took out a file folder, and handed it to Wang Qiang.

“Wang Qiang, my daughter trusts you a lot. She told me about your plan, and I think it’s feasible. Here is the property deed. If this house can be kept, it will be yours.”

...

Wang Qiang stood at the back door, watching the Lou family's house disappear into the night, the rain gradually obscuring his view. Only then did he return and begin his work. He first closed the back door and then sealed it. He then closed all the windows in the building and sealed the front door as well.

Seeing that there was no one on the street, Wang Qiang rode his bicycle away from Lou Xiao'e's house, but he did not return to the courtyard.

Wang Qiang arrived at a large courtyard house, which looked like it used to belong to a wealthy family. Because of the heavy rain, everyone in the courtyard was in the dark. There was not much entertainment in this era, so everyone had gone to bed early.

Wang Qiang looked around to make sure no one was paying attention, then went to a room on the east side and knocked on the window.

"Come in!"

The door opened, and a young man in his twenties opened it to let Wang Qiang in.

"Brother Wang, it really is you!"

By the dim candlelight, the other person recognized Wang Qiang, the purchasing agent from the steel rolling mill, and was overjoyed. He quickly invited Wang Qiang to sit on the bed, put on a coat, and stayed by his side.

"Dongzi, your matter is basically settled."

Wang Qiang sat down on the bed, then took out a pack of cigarettes, pulled one out, and offered it to Dongzi. Dongzi happily took the cigarette, scratching his head repeatedly, looking a little embarrassed.

"Brother Wang, you helped me with this and even gave me such good cigarettes. I will repay you for the rest of my life, even if it means working like a slave."

Wang Qiang waved his hand, "Don't say too much about New Year's greetings. It would be good enough if you didn't forget me in the future."

Then Wang Qiang lowered his voice and said to Dongzi, "There's a secret mission from above that needs a stranger to carry it out. I had to beg and plead before I agreed to let you try. Don't mess it up."

Seeing how mysterious Wang Qiang was, Dongzi trusted him even more. Dongzi's real name was Li Weidong. In fact, he and Wang Qiang met by chance. He knew that Wang Qiang worked in a steel rolling mill and was very capable, so he kept pestering Wang Qiang to find him a job.

He approached Wang Qiang several times, and although Wang Qiang always agreed readily, he could never actually get the job. Since his family was relatively poor, he still gritted his teeth and gave Wang Qiang 30 yuan.

But after more than half a year, there was still no news. Just when he was feeling disheartened, Wang Qiang suddenly said yesterday that there was an opportunity and asked if he was willing.

Although he didn't say what kind of job it was, Wang Qiang was being mysterious and hinted from his words that it was even better than working at the steel rolling mill, so Li Weidong was intrigued and quickly agreed.

“Dongzi, this is no small matter. The salary may not be high at the beginning, only a little over 100 yuan a month.”

Wang Qiang paused here to observe Li Weidong's reaction. Sure enough, Li Weidong looked somewhat unhappy when he heard that the salary was not high, but his face lit up with joy when he heard that it was more than 100 yuan a month.

"Brother Wang, I'll do whatever you say. I'll do whatever you tell me to do."

Li Weidong was getting impatient. Such a good job was hard to find, and he couldn't miss the opportunity. He grabbed Wang Qiang's hand, afraid that Wang Qiang would change his mind.

"Dongzi, we usually get along well. Don't think that you can get such a good job just because you spent 30 yuan."

Wang Qiang spoke frankly first to avoid Li Weidong thinking it was thanks to his 30 yuan.

"I've traveled a lot and said a lot of nice things."

"Look at what you're saying, Brother Wang. From now on, I'm your man. If you tell me to go east, I'll never go west. If you tell me to herd chickens, I'll never chase dogs."

Li Weidong quickly expressed his determination, afraid of missing this good opportunity.

"Alright, I think you're alright, but remember, this is a confidential department. You can't talk about it to outsiders. Even if your sister asks you, you can't tell her what you're doing, understand?"

Wang Qiang knew that Li Weidong's parents had died early and that he and his younger sister, Li Taohua, depended on each other for survival. Li Weidong had no job and relied on his sister's job as a waitress in a state-run restaurant, which only brought in a little over twenty yuan a month, making ends meet was a struggle.

"Brother Wang, don't worry, I swear to God, I won't tell anyone!"

Li Weidong made oaths and vows.

"Alright, that's settled then!"

Wang Qiang stood up, straightened his clothes, and stood upright in front of Li Weidong, leaving Li Weidong completely bewildered.

"Comrade Li Weidong, after evaluation, it has been decided to formally recruit you as a staff member of our department, serving as a security guard!"

Seeing Wang Qiang so formal, Li Weidong was at a loss for words. He was so excited he almost shouted out loud.

"These are the clothes and identification!"

Wang Qiang took out a set of military uniforms and a set of identification documents from a bag and handed them to Li Weidong.

Li Weidong stroked his clothes, flipped through his identification documents, and examined them closely: Third Command. Although he didn't know what kind of unit it was, it looked extremely prestigious.

"Starting tomorrow, you'll be on a mission. Can you complete it?"

Wang Qiang looked at the excited Li Weidong.

"able!"

Li Weidong stood at attention and gave a somewhat imperfect salute.

"Okay, this is the order. Destroy it after reading!"

Wang Qiang then took out a piece of paper from his large satchel and handed it to Li Weidong.

Li Weidong looked at the order above and realized that he was to go to a capitalist's mansion that had been requisitioned to do security work.

"Be on duty at 6 a.m., no lateness allowed. If anyone tries to storm this place, show this to their leader and tell them to keep it a secret."

Wang Qiang gave Li Weidong another piece of paper. Li Weidong saw the word "Confidential" written on it and realized the gravity of the situation. He nodded solemnly, indicating that he would definitely do his best.

"Brother, who are you talking to? I have to go to work tomorrow."

Li Taohua's voice came from the next room.

"Brother Wang is here, you can go to sleep now!"

Li Weidong replied, and upon hearing that it was Wang Qiang, Li Taohua turned on the light in her room.

"Brother Wang, is there any news about my brother's situation?"

Li Taohua knew about her brother Li Weidong asking Wang Qiang to help him find a job, and she had even scraped together the thirty yuan herself. So every time she ran into Wang Qiang, Li Taohua would ask him about it.
