Chapter 41 A Classic Revisited

After lunch, seeing that his younger siblings were all stuffed and lying motionless in their chairs with dazed eyes, as if they were still reminiscing about the delicious food, Sun Zhengguo decided to find them something to do.

"You two, tidy up the table and then go wash the dishes."

When the two heard their boss speak, they initially wanted to haggle, but upon seeing Sun Zhengguo's threatening gaze, they immediately took action.

After the two finished washing up, Sun Zhengguo continued.

"You guys play in the yard this afternoon, I need to go out and take care of something."

"What's wrong, brother? Can't you take us with you?"

Sun Zhenghong asked, puzzled.

"It's all your fault for showing off to Mom. I'll go see this afternoon if I can catch a turtle. I'll make a 'Farewell to the King' chicken for Mom to try."

Upon hearing this, Sun Zhenghong stuck out his tongue sheepishly and said embarrassedly.

"It wasn't intentional, bro, your cooking was really delicious! To make up for my mistake, I'll go with you this afternoon."

Sun Zhengguo already had these things in his space; he was just making an excuse because he didn't really want to take his younger siblings out, so he threatened them.

"These turtles are hiding in the mud, they're filthy! What are you going there for? Why don't you go catch them yourselves? I'm not going, I'll just stay home and wait to be eaten."

The brother and sister didn't dare to argue anymore. What a joke! They were going to catch turtles? They had no chance of succeeding. They just wanted to have fun. Forget it, "Isn't it better to just stay home and wait to eat what's ready?"

Seeing that the brother and sister were no longer insisting, Sun Zhengguo gave them one last instruction, forbidding them from sneaking out to play, before pushing the cart and heading out of the courtyard.

Just as they reached the entrance of the courtyard house, they ran into Xu Damao, who was returning from outside.

Xu Damao was dressed neatly, his hair was slicked back with oil and combed perfectly. With his big, donkey-like face, if you asked him not to be a traitor during the Anti-Japanese War, probably no one would believe it.

"Hey, old classmate, you're all dressed up today! Are you going on a blind date?"

Sun Zhengguo said jokingly.

"Jung-guk, please excuse my rudeness. The blind date is still a long way off, but there is indeed something good happening today."

Xu Damao replied with a grin.

Hearing Xu Damao say this piqued Sun Zhengguo's curiosity, and he then spoke up.

"What good news is it? Tell your brother, and let your brother have a good laugh too."

"It's only because he's your old classmate that I don't even bother with anyone else. Let me tell you, don't tell anyone else that I've got a job! I'm a projectionist at a steel mill, but I have to start as an apprentice. How about that, brother? Isn't that great?"

Xu Damao spoke with great enthusiasm.

"Congratulations, brother. This is indeed a good thing. It has to be you, Xu Damao. If it were someone else, they wouldn't be able to find such a good job."

After Sun Zhengguo finished speaking, he gave a thumbs up.

“You can’t compare to your old classmate. You’re about to take the college entrance exam. You’ll be the first college student in our courtyard.”

Xu Damao responded with a laugh, saying, "After all, who doesn't want to hear nice things?"

After exchanging pleasantries for a while, the two parted ways.

After leaving the courtyard house, Sun Zhengguo wandered aimlessly through the streets, admiring the scenery along the way. Before he knew it, he had arrived at Shichahai.

He found a quiet spot, sat down, and released his spiritual energy, probing deeper and deeper into the water.

You know what, after several dynasties have changed, there are still some things under the water.

We won't talk about the fish in the water, but there are quite a few other things in the water. Although we haven't had a big catch yet, we have quite a few small silver coins, copper coins, gold rings, and so on.

In this way, once one area is harvested, the harvesting continues in the next area.

Today, some people fishing at Shichahai noticed a young man standing motionless on the riverbank.

He stared intently at the lake, then would take a few steps forward every now and then stare at the lake again, repeating this cycle over and over.

The old man fishing was worried that the young man might do something rash, so he kept an eye on him. But after watching him for a long time, he saw that the young man was still the same, so he stopped paying attention and just assumed that he had encountered a lunatic.

Sun Zhengguo was unaware that his behavior had been interpreted as that of a madman, and that people were still investigating him relentlessly.

It was past 3 p.m. when Sun Zhengguo finally stopped his investigation. He had already made quite a bit of progress today, and he would come back again when he had time.

On the way home, I found a secluded spot, caught a turtle from my spatial storage, and took out a pheasant. I put them in a cloth bag, hung it on the handlebars, and then drove towards the courtyard house.

Back at the courtyard house, we were able to enter smoothly because all our belongings were in cloth bags.

When they got home, the younger brother and sister saw the things and shouted "Long live brother!" without asking any explanation. They went straight to boil water, clearly having learned from experience and knowing what to do next.

In the evening, the neighbors in the courtyard first smelled a faint fragrance, which became extremely strong when the workers were about to finish their shift.

The people in the courtyard followed the smell and began to search for its source.

There's no way around it, it smells just too good. After smelling this, even eating steamed buns at night doesn't taste good, let alone eating cornbread right now.

Before long, they located Sun Zhengguo's house. There was no way around it; the smell was too easy to find, requiring almost no effort.

But what good would it do to find it? Go to their door and ask for it back? Wouldn't that make us old Beijingers lose face? What if they refuse to give it to us?

And so a dramatic scene unfolded: a few shameless old men lingered in the front yard, looking for an opportunity.

Sun Dajiang was unaware that his family was being targeted. He had just finished get off work, and he and his wife, followed by Lin Jiguo, were walking towards the courtyard house.

As the three approached the courtyard house, they smelled a delicious aroma. Lin Jiguo even joked, "It would be great if we could have a bite."

This earned Lin Wencui a roll of her eyes. What's wrong with you?! "Is your aunt lacking you food or drink?"

Lin Wencui's words frightened Lin Jiguo so much that he dared not respond.

When Sun Dajiang returned to the courtyard house, he found that a lot of people had come to the front yard. He wondered, "What are all these people doing at this mealtime?" So he asked politely.

"Have you all eaten? What are you doing here?"

"Haven't eaten yet? Dajiang, what are you cooking? It smells so good."

One of them said.

Only then did Mr. and Mrs. Sun realize that the fragrance was coming from their own home, and the purpose of these people standing there was self-evident.

Lin Wencui looked at it and said in an annoyed tone.

"If you haven't eaten, go home and eat. What are you standing here for?"

After saying that, without looking at the reactions of the crowd, he took Sun Dajiang and Lin Jiguo and went home.

As for the neighbors who were still standing there, Lin Wencui said, "If you want to stand there, then stand there. I don't have time to deal with you."

Those who remained looked at each other in bewilderment.
