The assessment begins in Chapter 62.

That evening, at Sun Dajiang's house, after dinner, the father and son were talking when Sun Zhengguo asked a question.

"Dad, I heard that the country is going to start implementing an eight-level worker system. Is that true?"

"Of course it's true, the document is still in my bag."

Sun Dajiang said nonchalantly, "Anyway, everyone already knows."

Sun Zhengguo actually knew that the eight-level worker system was going to be implemented, but he didn't know which year it started. Now that it was confirmed, he asked again.

"Are Dad and my cousin both taking the assessment this time? What level of worker are you planning to apply for?"

"I'll definitely participate. Why wouldn't I take the exam if it means a raise? As for which level to apply for, this is the first time I've taken the exam. It doesn't matter how many times I take it. As long as I pass, I can keep taking the exam and move up. But I won't be able to do that anymore. I can only apply twice a year."

Sun Dajiang, beaming with pride, gave his son a thorough explanation.

After explaining the facts, Sun Dajiang took out some documents from his briefcase and handed them to his son.

"Look for yourself, it's all written up there, in more detail than I can explain."

Sun Zhengguo took the document, sat down, and began to read it carefully. Sun Dajiang didn't disturb him and just drank his tea.

After reading the document, Sun Zhengguo gained some understanding of the current grading system. The highest-paid workers were blacksmiths and electricians, while the other jobs were about the same.

After returning the documents to his father, Sun Zhengguo went to play with his younger brother. His father wanted to study more since the exam was coming up soon, and Sun Zhengguo didn't want to bother him.

The next day, the first thing Sun Dajiang did when he got to work was to gather all the workers under his command and announce the matter. Although the workers already knew about it, they were not very clear about some of the details.

When Sun Dajiang announced the electrician's wages, all the workers cheered excitedly.

An 8th-level electrician's salary is as high as 108 yuan a month, while a 1st-level electrician earns 33.5 yuan. Apart from blacksmiths, there are no other skilled workers in the other trades.

Seeing the fervent expressions on his workers' faces, Sun Dajiang said.

"Don't get too excited yet, everyone. We still have to study during this period. There are still 10 days left. We'll see how good you are then. Don't embarrass me."

The workers below responded in unison, then dispersed and began their work.

This same scene is playing out in other workshops of the steel rolling mill, just like in the electrical engineering section. Workers are more proactive, and they know to ask for help when they encounter something they don't understand, which has greatly improved their work efficiency.

Secretary Zhou of the steel rolling mill was overjoyed to see the workers' high morale and strong learning momentum, exclaiming, "The future is promising!"

The steel mill workers' fiery offensive continued until the assessment team entered the factory, at which point it stopped and the assessment began. Whether they were dragons or worms, this wave of evaluation would determine their fate.

Because the steel rolling mill is a large factory with a large number of employees, the assessment team decided to assess employees according to their job type, starting with fitters.

The steel rolling mill has three fitter workshops. Today, we're assessing the first workshop. Workshop Director Wang is organizing the staff for a theoretical exam.

"Number 6: Li Jianjun; Number 7: Qian Xiaofei; Number 8: Jia Dongxu; Number 9: Chen Xiao..."

Those whose names were called quickly went to their corresponding positions. Jia Dongxu also quickly went to position number 8. After a while, all the workers were in place, and the examiner checked their names and announced the start of the exam.

Half an hour later, the theory exam ended, and several examiners graded the papers on the spot. The results were okay; only a few who couldn't write were eliminated. This shows that the theory of Level 1 fitter is not too difficult.

The next assessment will be a practical exam, which will test your hands-on skills. This stage is not too difficult, after all, Level 1 worker is just the basics and there is no high level of difficulty.

One hour later, all the assessments were completed. Only one person was eliminated this time. Jia Dongxu also successfully passed the Level 1 assessment and became a Level 1 fitter with a monthly salary of 31 yuan. Of course, Jia Dongxu will definitely have to continue taking the assessments.

After a short rest, the workers began the second exam, including Jia Dongxu. By the time they reached Level 2, there were noticeably fewer workers in the exam room. As the difficulty of the exam increased, fewer and fewer people would participate.

Half an hour later, the theoretical exam ended, and Jia Dongxu passed it with difficulty. Next, he continued with the practical exam, which he passed again, becoming a Level 2 fitter with a monthly salary of 38 yuan.

Upon learning of his advancement, Jia Dongxu was extremely excited, waving his arms vigorously and silently cheering himself on.

This concludes the morning's assessments; the Level 3 assessments are scheduled for the afternoon.

At lunchtime, Jia Dongxu ordered an extra meat dish to celebrate his promotion, and many workers did the same today.

After lunch, Jia Dongxu returned to the workshop and found a corner to rest for a while, so he could conserve his energy for the afternoon's assessment.

In the afternoon, the assessment continued. As the difficulty increased, the number of people in the examination room decreased significantly. Jia Dongxu was still number 8 and easily found his seat.

When the test papers were handed out, Jia Dongxu only managed to answer two questions before he was stumped. He recognized all the words, but he just couldn't answer them. He could only barely fill in the test paper before handing it in.

As expected, Jia Dongxu failed the theoretical part of the Level 3 fitter exam and was unfortunately eliminated. Looking at his cheering colleagues, Jia Dongxu left the assessment site with a deep sense of resentment.

The assessment did not stop because Jia Dongxu left, but continued in an orderly manner. By the time he left work, he had already passed the Level 5 assessment.

As for master fitters like Yi Zhonghai, they haven't made an appearance yet, but they're expected to do so tomorrow morning.

Regarding today's assessment, 95% of the people were relatively satisfied and could accept it. Only a small group of people, who usually rose to their positions by flattering others, were exposed for what they truly were this time.

After get off work, Jia Dongxu specially went to buy some meat to celebrate when he got home. Although he was a little disappointed that he didn't pass the Level 3 worker exam, it was still a raise, and he couldn't be dejected after getting a raise.

Back at the courtyard house, Jia Zhangshi learned that her son had passed the exam for Level 2 worker and received a raise. She immediately spread the news far and wide, making it known to everyone on the street.

Jia Zhangshi's boasting immediately drew the ire of several middle-aged women, one of whom said...

"Jia Zhangshi, what are you so smug about! Li Jianjun from the backyard passed the Level 3 worker exam today, earning 45 yuan a month. Look at him, he didn't even leave the house after coming back, so low-key. And look at you, why don't you compare yourself to him!"

The old woman's words left Jia Zhangshi speechless.

She knew Li Jianjun had joined the factory later than her son, but this time, he passed the Level 3 worker exam and earned a higher salary than her son.

How can she compare?

Finally, having run out of options, Jia Zhangshi said "Mind your own business" before dejectedly running home.

Only a few middle-aged women remained, bursting into laughter!
