"Lin Yang! Are you home?"
Hearing the distinctive hoarse voice of a teenager outside the door, Lin Yang put down his teacup with a hint of doubt.
Who is it?
He was familiar with the voices of the teenagers in the courtyard.
But the voice was genuinely unfamiliar to him.
However, when he opened the door and saw Zhou Changli pretending to be Old Chen, Lin Yang couldn't help but laugh and say, "How did you manage to find my place, you little rascal!"
"Slurp~~~~~" Zhou Changli sniffed hard, his nose stinging from the cold, then looked at Lin Yang with a serious expression and said, "I found out from Bang Geng!"
Seeing Zhou Changli's frozen state, Lin Yang asked him to come in first, puzzled.
He then asked, "What's wrong? What do you need me for?"
"I came to thank you!" Zhou Changli clasped his hands together and said in a serious tone, "Yesterday, Banggeng and Peng Damao returned the sweet potatoes to my brother. I was supposed to come yesterday, but you weren't home."
"Wow, you came twice just for this?" Lin Yang poured him a glass of water with a sigh.
However, despite saying that, Lin Yang was still quite satisfied.
Regardless of Zhou Changli's many flaws, his ability to be grateful is undeniable.
"I will always repay kindness; that's my principle in life!" Zhou Changli said without hesitation.
Looking at Zhou Changli's serious face, Lin Yang smiled and picked up his teacup, saying, "Let's toast to your principles."
Zhou Changli picked up his teacup and, disregarding the water temperature, drank it all in one gulp, just like a chivalrous knight-errant.
Staring dumbfounded as Zhou Changli finished drinking, Lin Yang said speechlessly, "My water wasn't particularly hot, but it was still over forty degrees..."
Before he could finish speaking, Zhou Changli suddenly put down his teacup, opened his mouth wide, and started fanning himself with his hand.
Only now did he reveal a bit of his youthful spirit.
Seeing this, Lin Yang smiled, turned around and walked to the cabinet, pretending to reach in to get something, but actually took out two frozen pears from his spatial storage.
He then tossed one to Zhou Changli: "Haha, man, how about a frozen pear to cool down!"
Zhou Changli took the frozen pear with a slight surprise, then frowned and said, "I can't accept something for nothing. Lin Yang, is there anything you want me to do?"
"Yes!" Lin Yang said, feigning seriousness, "I do have something I need you to do!"
"What is it! I'll do whatever I can for you!" Upon hearing this, Zhou Changli stood up abruptly, his eyes fixed on Lin Yang.
"I'm definitely older than you, it's not appropriate for you to call me Lin Yang like that!" Lin Yang walked to the side, picked up two spoons, and said with a smile, "After eating the frozen pear, it won't be hard for you to call me Brother Yang, right?"
As he spoke, he placed a spoon next to Zhou Changli, who looked completely bewildered, and sat back down in his chair, slowly scooping out pieces of frozen pear to eat.
Zhou Changli watched the man casually eating the frozen pear, and no one knew what he was thinking.
Finally, he grabbed a spoon from the side and forcefully stabbed it into the frozen pear in his hand, then quickly said, "Yang..."
"What?" Lin Yang looked up with a smile and said, "Comrade Xiao Zhou, what are you saying that's so vague?"
Looking at the man in front of him, Zhou Changli finally called out in a heavy tone, "Brother Yang!"
"Don't be so serious." Lin Yang said indistinctly while eating a frozen pear, "Would I, a dignified security guard, harm you?"
"Brother Yang, is there anything you need me to do?" Zhou Changli was a little unaccustomed to being treated so well. He didn't even bother eating the frozen pear and said earnestly, "I know a bunch of brothers on the streets. I can handle all sorts of things, big and small!"
"You know a bunch of brothers who gave me back my good jokes, they beat me up so badly!"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Changli said magnanimously, "My own problems are none of your concern!"
"Fine!" Lin Yang said speechlessly, "Then what do you think I, a security guard, need you to help me with?"
“Uh…” Zhou Changli hadn’t expected this, and looked at Lin Yang awkwardly without saying a word.
That's true.
No one dares to mess with a security guard on the street.
Seeing Zhou Changli's embarrassed look, Lin Yang actually realized that there was something he needed to do.
"By the way, I actually have something to say!" Lin Yang put down the frozen pear in his hand and looked at Zhou Changli, saying, "You young boys, always hanging around on the streets, if you find any suspicious people, you can report to me. In your words, this area is under my protection!"
He now possesses a system that allows him to identify criminals without evidence.
But once or twice, they could use the excuse that they had been keeping an eye on those criminals for a long time to make arrests.
For example, in this case, one of the two spies, Cao Zhiqin, worked at the steel rolling mill. He was able to say that he had been keeping an eye on him for a long time.
But if it happens too often, people will eventually become suspicious.
If we cultivate some subordinates like Zhou Changli, then it will be much easier to find a reason.
Just a casual remark: "This clue was discovered by someone I knew on the street, and I also noticed something was off when I was keeping an eye on things!"
That way, arresting those criminals will be more legitimate.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Changli immediately patted his chest and said, "Brother Yang, don't worry. My brothers may not have any other skills, but they all grew up around here. I will notify you immediately if I discover anything!"
"You don't need to tell me every little thing. Forget about those old foxes who've been in and out of prison multiple times," Lin Yang quickly added.
He was afraid that if he didn't emphasize it again, Zhou Changli, who seemed to be making a solemn pledge to him, would report all his news to him from now on.
"Don't worry, Brother Yang, I know my limits!" Zhou Changli said with a smile. "I won't come to you, Brother Yang, dealing with those 'Buddha's' who are supported by gangsters, or ordinary people who do swindling, cheating, picking locks, or breaking into shady businesses. I'll only come to you if there are any spies like those who used guns last night!"
"You're not that old, but you're spouting slang!" Lin Yang said speechlessly. "What do you mean by 'playboys'? They're just a bunch of idle thugs who're of working age but don't have a proper job, and they're not short of money! Even Buddha only has three hands!"
But then he frowned and looked at Zhou Changli, saying, "Wait, how did you know about what happened last night?"
Zhou Changli raised an eyebrow and said smugly, "My brothers told me that some of them live near the pigeon market."
However, he reacted quickly and his mind worked like lightning. He immediately looked at Lin Yang and said, "Brother Yang, you wouldn't be here right now, would you!"
"Don't ask what you shouldn't ask!" Lin Yang said, then looked at Zhou Changli. Suddenly, he felt that this little rascal who would one day dominate Beijing might bring him a pleasant surprise.
After chatting with Zhou Changli for a few more minutes, Lin Yang saw that it was getting late and told him to go home first.
Just as Lin Yang boiled another pot of water, preparing to enjoy a relaxing foot bath...
There was another knock on the door.
