Chapter 2: Divorce The original heroine is reborn
"Talk less." Jiang's mother quickly pulled Jiang Moli's sleeve, fearing that Jiang Moli would make Jiang's father unhappy.
Jiang Moli understood what her mother meant. Her mother was worried about her father being unhappy, but she wasn't worried. They were both Jiang's father's biological daughters, and Jiang Yuqin wasn't afraid of his displeasure. So what was she afraid of? The worst that could happen was being kicked out of the house and forced to live in school. Besides, Jiang's father wouldn't kick Jiang Moli out, and he wouldn't be so cruel to her.
On weekdays, Jiang Moli's attitude towards Jiang's father was very good. She always respected her parents. This time, Jiang Yuqin really went too far, so Jiang Moli said these words.
"Jiang Yuqin is my father's biological child, but I am not. Did you pick me up from the trash can?" Jiang Moli raised her voice.
Jiang's father heard Jiang Moli's voice, but he didn't say anything wrong about her. Jiang's father had always doted on Jiang Moli. Although Jiang's father didn't treat Jiang Yuqin too badly, when he saw Jiang Yuqin, he couldn't help but think of his ex-wife who ran away with another man, and he felt bad. Jiang Moli was the youngest child, and Jiang's mother hadn't done anything to let Jiang's father down, so Jiang's father naturally felt even more sorry for Jiang Moli.
"Of course we didn't pick you up from the trash can," Jiang's mother said. "When we were little, I joked with you that we picked you up from the trash can, and you still believed it?"
"I don't believe it." Jiang Moli said, "Mom, you've done enough for my sister. She insisted on being a stepmother. You can't blame anyone else."
Jiang Yuqin endured all kinds of hardships as a stepmother, needing to come to her parents' house to get something if she needed it. This is exactly how it plays out in the original novel. Jiang's mother couldn't refuse Jiang Yuqin, so she had no choice but to let her take things. At most, Jiang's mother would hide some things. Even so, Jiang's mother was still criticized as vicious, with some people saying she hid things from her stepdaughter. Others praised Jiang Yuqin's good character and said she treated her adopted son well.
Haha, if Jiang Yuqin has the ability, she shouldn’t take things from her mother’s family. She relies on herself to treat her adopted son well.
"Everyone says you're a vicious stepmother. No matter how much you do, it's useless." Jiang Moli said, "Sister Mingming has already taken a lot of benefits. She stayed in the city while brother went to the countryside, but she's still not satisfied. Now, she wants to be someone else's stepmother. Just let her be a stepmother. If she thinks she can be a good stepmother, then she will be one. Don't give her anything at home. Even if you give it to her, she won't know how to cherish it."
After Jiang Moli finished speaking to her mother, she ran to her father and said, "Dad, my sister is going to be a good person. She has a job and a salary. They are both working, so they can always raise the child well. Dad, please don't give all the good things to my sister. If someone doesn't know, they might think I'm not your biological child."
"Look at what you said. You look so much like your father." Jiang's mother said, "You look most like your grandmother."
Old Madam Jiang lived on the other side of South City, living with Uncle Jiang. She had completely different attitudes towards Jiang Moli and Jiang Yuqin. She particularly disliked Jiang Yuqin, whose mother had run off with another man, bringing shame to the Jiang family. Old Madam Jiang's attitude towards Jiang Moli was acceptable. She would bring food to Jiang Moli, letting her eat it quietly. If she couldn't finish it, she would hide it in her room and not let Jiang Yuqin eat it.
There wasn't much food, so Jiang Moli sometimes shared some with Jiang Yuqin. Jiang Yuqin would complain that it was Jiang Moli's leftovers, saying that Jiang Moli didn't let her eat them first and that Jiang Moli ate them first. It was clear that Jiang Moli didn't bite every piece of the cake, and that all the food she ate was clean, but Jiang Yuqin still said that. This led to Jiang Moli not wanting to share her food with Jiang Yuqin. Jiang Moli told her mother, and her mother asked her to share, saying that sisterhood was important.
Jiang Moli is not a good-tempered person. She went straight to her father and told him that her sister disliked her and that her grandmother had told her not to let her sister eat it. Jiang's father told Jiang Moli to hide it and eat it herself and not to give it to Jiang Yuqin. Jiang Moli nodded and said that if she gave it to her sister, her grandmother would not bring it to her next time, so she decided not to give it to her sister.
"Doesn't your grandma love you very much?" Jiang's mother said.
"Moli is right," said Father Jiang. "We've given Yuqin enough. Just keep an eye on her. There's no need to give her anything else."
"Well...well...the couple will have to come to our house for dinner, right?" Jiang's mother said.
"Eat?" Jiang's father sneered, "Will they come?"
"Of course they will come. They are shameless." Jiang Moli said.
Jiang's mother tugged at Jiang Moli's sleeve and signaled her with her eyes to stop talking. But Jiang Moli didn't care what her mother's mentality was. She only knew that Jiang Yuqin didn't deserve their kindness to her.
"Just wait, they will be here in two days." Jiang Moli said. Her mother knew that she should not say anything and make things smaller than they actually are, but that also required cooperation from others.
Jiang Yuqin's husband had a sense of dignity. Indeed, he could have guessed from the beginning that Jiang Yuqin had stolen her household registration book, but he still got married to her. A grown man with a one- or two-year-old child was difficult to care for, so he wanted someone to help him take care of the child. With the marriage certificate, it was a done deal, and Jiang's father was bound to agree.
In the house next door, Miao Guifeng had just given birth a few days ago when her in-laws told her that her child was dead. Miao Guifeng was reborn, and before she did, she learned that her child was not dead at all, but her mother-in-law had taken the child away and sold it to pay off her brother-in-law's debt.
After Miao Guifeng was reborn, she called the police and had them retrieve the child. The couple who bought the child also admitted that they had purchased the child and that it was not their own.
Look, Miao Guifeng stared at her mother-in-law angrily.
"Where is your conscience? This is your own grandson. How could you sell him out?"
"He's still so young, he doesn't know anything."
"You told me my son was dead. I was so sad that I almost cried my eyes out."
…
Miao Guifeng recalled her past life, in which she cried during her confinement period, which caused her eyesight to become poor. Her mother-in-law watched her cry but refused to tell the truth. It was not until more than ten years later that Miao Guifeng learned that her mother-in-law had sent her child away.
Initially, Miao Guifeng's mother-in-law's attitude was not favorable when her biological son returned. She constantly complained that the child hadn't grown up around her, that they didn't have a strong bond, and that children raised by their parents were closer. Miao Guifeng felt a different attitude, and that she hadn't properly handled the situation with her biological son, leading him to resent her.
Especially when the biological son found out that it was his grandmother who sold him, he suspected that his mother and father also knew. Miao Guifeng's mother-in-law also said that she sold the child to pay off the debts of Miao Guifeng's husband, and said that the family was poor and sent the child to another family so that the child could have a better life.
It was clearly her brother-in-law who owed the debt, but her mother-in-law said it was her husband who owed the debt. Miao Guifeng didn't know whether her husband knew about the child selling, she just knew that she couldn't let her mother-in-law and the others have an easy time.
"Isn't it to pay off your husband's debt?" said Old Mrs. Yang.
"Are you paying off my husband's debt? You're clearly paying off your youngest son's debt!" Miao Guifeng said, "Your youngest son spent the money, yet you asked my husband to borrow it. Your youngest son owes so much money, and you're selling my son to pay off the debt. Are you even human?"
"My youngest son is your husband's younger brother!" Old Mrs. Yang had a stern face. She didn't think she was wrong.
Old Mrs. Yang thinks that Miao Guifeng is mentally ill. Just because she has lost one child doesn't mean she can't have another one. Isn't it okay for Miao Guifeng to just treat the child as dead?
After Miao Guifeng called the police, the child was found. Since Mrs. Yang was old, the police simply criticized her. Others saw it as a private matter for the Yang family, and since some staff members preferred to smooth things over, the matter was settled. Miao Guifeng's husband also didn't want her to make a big deal out of it; he couldn't possibly send Mrs. Yang to jail.
"Who should I marry, my brother or my son?" Miao Guifeng turned to look at her man, Yang Bingrong. "You tell me, you tell me!"
"It's enough to find the child." Yang Bingrong said helplessly.
"Did you know this a long time ago?" Miao Guifeng was very angry.
"I don't know, I don't know." Yang Bingrong explained.
"Fine, I'll just pretend you don't know." Miao Guifeng said with a cold face, "I'll give you two choices. Either we get divorced, or we separate from your parents. If your parents want to subsidize your brother, they can do it. Don't drag us into it!"
In their previous life, Miao Guifeng and her husband had helped Yang Bingrong's younger brother a lot. But when Miao Guifeng's biological son returned, those people treated him very badly, each and every one of them thinking that he would side with others. It was clear that his adoptive parents hadn't treated him very well, yet those people still said that a biological son couldn't possibly side with his biological mother.
Miao Guifeng felt deeply sorry for these people. After losing her eldest son, she later gave birth to three daughters. Having only daughters, she was ridiculed by those around her. Her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law looked down on her. Miao Guifeng, a country girl herself, felt she had married above her station and that she hadn't borne him a son. All she could do was do more housework and be nicer to her husband's family.
"Go ahead, tell me, what's your choice?" Miao Guifeng asked. "Do I have to let you think about it for two days before you can answer?"
Of course, Yang Bingrong didn't want a divorce. If he wanted to, he would have done it long ago. Why wait until now? The only option was to separate the family. Yang Bingrong looked at Old Lady Yang.
"Split the family." said Mr. Yang.
"What's the point of dividing the family?" Old Madam Yang asked, "Bingrong's brother hasn't even gotten married yet..."
"Let's divide it." Old Master Yang was smoking a pipe. If they didn't divide the family, it would fall apart.
Things have come to this point and we have no choice but to split up.
I can't really let my eldest son get a divorce. Marrying a wife nowadays costs a lot of money. My youngest son hasn't married yet, so of course it's better to separate the family.
"You can split up the family, but they have to provide us with pension money." There was no way Old Mrs. Yang would let her eldest son and daughter-in-law split up the family so easily. She just wanted to tear off a layer of skin from her eldest son and daughter-in-law.
"How dare you ask for retirement money?" Miao Guifeng's eyes widened. She didn't want to give these people retirement money, not a single cent. Whenever Miao Guifeng thought about her past life, the hardships her son endured outside, and the grievances she had suffered in her husband's family, she didn't want to support her parents-in-law anymore.
These people always said that it was Old Lady Yang who made the decision to sell the child alone. Miao Guifeng didn't quite believe it, at least Old Lady Yang's youngest son knew about it.
"Of course I have to give me pension money. Your husband came out of my belly. If he doesn't give me pension money, who will?" Old Mrs. Yang snorted coldly.
"You sold out his own son, and you still have the nerve to ask for pension money?" Miao Guifeng was so angry that her eyes turned red.
"I'm sorry, why should I be embarrassed?" Old Mrs. Yang said, "There are no perfect parents in the world. Even if I made a mistake, I was criticized. This matter is over. You still have to give me the pension money you should give me. Not a penny less!"
"Yang Bingrong, please say something." Miao Guifeng looked at her husband. "Do you still want a divorce?"
