Wang Shouren always adopted a policy of persuasion when it came to his women.
For factories, things are not so easy.
Right now, he's receiving two students he poached from Old Man Zhuge.
This is Zhuge Liang's prized student.
After being misled by Wang Shouren, they inexplicably came over.
One was named Feng Xian, and the other was named Song Qiao.
It's said that these two were a couple while in school, and this year they're graduating with their master's degrees. They were already students in the college before, but due to circumstances, they didn't receive their diplomas. Now, they've finally passed the school's assessment.
"Welcome to the team, both of you," Wang Shouren said with a smile. "Your joining us has given me much more confidence."
"Director Wang, you're too kind." Feng Xian wore glasses and appeared polite and refined.
Actually, he had no choice but to come to this place.
With his educational background, he could be assigned a decent job.
However, there is a fatal problem: he may not be able to stay in Beijing.
Song Qiao is from Beijing, but he isn't. Normally, people would be assigned back to their place of household registration.
If the two people separate, many problems will arise.
Just when he was having a headache over this, he heard that a factory was recruiting at the school.
This was quite unusual. These days, it was rare for factories to come to schools to recruit; most people would report to higher authorities and then wait for job assignments. Before he could even find out more, Wang Shouren came knocking on his door.
With just one offer, he said he'd be earning 1,500 a month.
He was stunned by the salary and benefits.
One...one thousand and five?
What is that?
Even the dean wouldn't charge that much, right?
This kind of treatment was unheard of, not only by Feng Xian, but even by Song Qiao.
Fortunately, Song Qiao's family had some connections, so she went home and inquired. When her family heard that it was Wang Shouren's factory, they immediately gave her the order to go without saying a word.
If things had gone according to the usual pattern, Wang Shouren estimated he would have had to wait for these two to complete their internships, gauge the factory's resolve, and put in some effort before they could stay. Unexpectedly, these two timid lambs had walked right into the lion's den, acting as if they wouldn't go to any other factory than his. This was a two-way street.
"Director Wang, when can we start work?" Feng Xian was a technician, a straightforward guy. Since Wang Shouren was offering him such good pay, he was naturally going to work his butt off. He was joking; at 1,500 yuan a month, he could buy a courtyard house in a year.
"Don't worry, the situation at the workshop hasn't been resolved yet. Also, are you planning to stay in the dormitory or move out? It's quite far from the city center. To be honest, the situation in the tenement buildings isn't very good."
The two exchanged a glance.
I hesitated.
They had actually seen what a tenement building looked like on their way here. As soon as they entered, looking east, that was the tenement building. It was called a tenement building because it was cramped and crowded. But going outside to work was a bit rushed.
"In that case, you can consider staying in the tenement building for now. In a few months, we will build new dormitories," Wang Shouren promised them.
"Really?" Mr. Feng was somewhat incredulous.
These days, working in a factory isn't just about working in a factory; it encompasses a wide range of things. There are schools, daycare centers, and even accommodations—basically any facility people need. That's why many people are reluctant to quit. The pay isn't high, but it's stable, and since they've been there their whole lives, they don't want to leave.
Even provincial-level units like steel rolling mills are equipped with hospitals.
Everything is available.
However, building these things requires approval from higher authorities. Although Wang Shouren's motorcycle factory is now a joint public-private enterprise, whether it can expand its workforce is another matter.
Song Qiao shook Feng Xian's hand and said, "Factory Director, let's stay in the dormitory building for now."
Feng Xian paused for a moment, then looked at Wang Shouren and nodded: "Then, Factory Director, let's stay in the dormitory building for now."
To be honest, as a man, he doesn't really care where he lives. Since Song Qiao next to him said so, he has no objections.
"Alright, then go to the logistics department and get the supplies from the head of the logistics section. Move in now, and you should be able to move into the new house around next year. You have two days to move in, is that enough?"
"That's enough, that's enough." Feng Xian nodded repeatedly. Most of their things were at the academy, and if it weren't already so late, they could have finished dealing with it today.
"Alright, the day after tomorrow is the official start of work. Remember to register while you're at it."
"good!"
Having resolved the engineer's issue, Wang Shouren moved on to looking into other problems at the factory.
First, there were the basic workers, who were watching when there was a rapid knocking on the door.
Kui Datou and Dai Wu rushed in.
"Factory manager, something terrible has happened! A commotion has broken out!"
"A commotion has started?" Wang Shouren glanced at them. "Don't rush, tell me slowly."
"Your new workshop has been built, and it's only been a few hours since it was put into operation today, and the workers are already making a fuss! They're heading this way to you."
"Let's go." Wang Shouren stood up, grabbed his things, and walked outside.
Kui Datou and Dai Wu exchanged a glance.
Both of them looked bewildered.
“Why isn’t he afraid?” Dai Wu asked.
A worker riot is a huge blow to a factory. But Wang Shouren appears quite calm.
"That's my boss, of course I'm not afraid!" Kui Datou didn't know what Wang Shouren was up to, but that didn't stop him from bragging.
What did he just take?
"Don't know? It looks like a loudspeaker?"
Wang Shouren calmly went downstairs. When he reached the building entrance, a group of workers were walking towards him aggressively.
As they walked, they kept shouting things like "Down with capitalism!"
Upon seeing Wang Shouren, they all stopped, and several of them were carrying weapons.
They all started pointing at Wang Shouren and cursing him.
Wang Shouren calmly watched them, then reached behind him and started rummaging around.
The menacing-looking man standing before him immediately shuddered and retreated, fearing Wang Shouren might pull out a large weapon. (Fun fact: my country banned guns in 1996. These days, ruthless criminals on the streets are armed with real weapons. Shootings are not uncommon.)
Wang Shouren reached behind him and pulled out a large red megaphone.
Aim at it, and then unleash a barrage of "Hey! Hey! Hey!"
The sound was so loud that it made the workers' heads buzz.
Kui Datou and Dai Wu, who were following behind, were both dumbfounded.
"What brand is that thing? Why is it so loud?" Dai Wu asked Kui Datou.
Kui Datou; ...
Is it something to talk about now?
