P.S.: A cat is a cat, an alley is an alley, and rain is rain; there's no other meaning.
People in this era generally go to bed early.
Most of the time, after finishing a meal, I would simply take a walk in the yard.
Of course, that was in summer. Now it's winter, and everyone's already snuggled under the covers, either playing a little game of "you clap, I clap" or just fast asleep.
At night, when all is quiet.
Qin Huairu tiptoed through the moon gate and arrived at the backyard.
He reached out and pushed Wang Shouren's door; it opened easily.
Suppressing her surprise, she went inside. The outer room was empty. Remembering what had happened earlier, she considered turning back. But then, thinking of the Jia family's current situation, she gritted her teeth and went into the inner room.
Inside the inner room, Wang Shouren was already fast asleep on the bed.
Seeing this, Qin Huairu couldn't help but feel annoyed.
This wicked person gave the idea and then did it himself. How can he sleep now, looking like this?
I walked to the bedside, reached out, and was about to pinch this bastard.
She saw Wang Shouren's handsome face, looking at her with a half-smile.
Before you know it, he's dragged you and your shoes into the bed.
"You...you let me go."
"Don't move, let me warm you up. It's cold outside, and I knew you'd come. What if you catch a cold?"
It sounded quite touching, but when she sensed something behind her, she couldn't help but spit out a curse, her voice unconsciously taking on a hint of coquettishness: "Then tell me, what are we going to do about today's events?"
"You don't really need to worry about this. Did you see Director Ma today?"
"Hmm, wasn't it said to be a newcomer?"
"Smack!"
A slapping sound rang out, and Qin Huairu's face instantly turned red.
"That's it! A new broom sweeps clean, and this will benefit you. Tomorrow morning, talk to that old man and go to the Women's Federation at the factory. Next, Director Ma will probably publicize Jia Zhangshi's problems extensively, and then praise you everywhere. The current strategy is 'Women can hold up half the sky.' You, a woman who is always thinking about self-improvement but is constantly suppressed by your mother-in-law, are a perfect example to set an example for."
"Then, can I properly learn the skills of a fitter in the future?"
"Hmm...it's up to you."
"Look at me?"
"Yes, I think Director Ma will probably give you two choices tomorrow: one is to continue working as a fitter, and the other is to go directly to the Women's Federation."
"Go straight to the Women's Federation?!"
"Yes, because you are their typical representative. Joining the Women's Federation won't be a problem."
"Then...then what should I choose?" Qin Huairu was somewhat at a loss, even wanting to ask Wang Shouren for his opinion on such an important matter. She herself was completely unaware that Wang Shouren was 11 years younger than her.
"I suggest choosing the fitter."
"Why?" Qin Huairu asked, somewhat puzzled. The Women's Federation—wouldn't that be a one-step solution?
"The main reason is the subsequent impact. If you continue to choose to be a fitter, then Director Ma's propaganda will be fine. But if you choose to join the Women's Federation, then Director Ma's propaganda will still be fine, and you will probably face a lot of rumors, including vicious rumors such as 'sending your mother-in-law in to get a position in the Women's Federation' or 'killing your own husband to get a position in the Women's Federation.'" Wang Shouren understood this matter very clearly.
He could even clearly see what Director Ma was going to do next.
For Director Ma, being new to this position, she needs to achieve results. The exemplary role has already been established, and her achievements are not currently in question. Therefore, she needs to stabilize the existing group of older women in the factory. At this point, she should generously offer Qin Huairu a choice, such as making an exception and recruiting her into the Women's Federation, in order to liberate more people like herself.
As for what happens next, that's not important. That's Qin Huairu's problem to deal with. It has little to do with Director Ma.
In his previous life, Wang Shouren had seen and used this kind of tactic many times.
Qin Huairu shook her head.
Wang Shouren was a little aroused by her plump body.
His voice was slightly hoarse: "Don't move around too much, it's hard to keep up."
Qin Huairu gave Wang Shouren a charmingly disdainful look, her eyes seeming to ask, "Who exactly dragged her into this?"
"Don't do anything rash. Starting tomorrow, Jia Zhangshi's days probably won't be easy. But don't go too far either. Know when to stop. It would be best to make a deal with Jia Zhangshi. She should do her job around the house and not let her act like a king. She's not even fifty yet, and she's supposed to stay at home and retire. Even a king isn't living as comfortably as her."
Wang Shouren held Qin Huairu in his arms and talked about what might happen tomorrow.
Suddenly he realized that the beauty in his arms had stopped moving. Looking down, he saw Qin Huairu staring at him with bright, open eyes.
For a moment, he was stunned.
After a while, my mouth was sealed with something warm.
The dark clouds in the sky, like a giant hand, covered the bright moon. Perhaps the moon was being temperamental, for a light drizzle began to fall, gradually soaking the land that had been dry for so long. A cat darted out from the alleyway, letting out a soft meow, slightly suppressed, as if afraid of being targeted by other animals nearby.
It weaved through the alleyways. From the cat's perspective, perhaps because the rain was too heavy, or perhaps because the road was too slippery, the alleyways, reflected in the red brick walls, seemed to shrink. The cat grew anxious; its meows became noticeably more rapid. It ran quickly towards the alleyway entrance, but halfway there, it seemed to remember something it had left behind, or perhaps it hadn't. It rushed back.
The cat's meows could be heard continuously as it went back and forth.
It evokes the imagery of "The monkeys' cries on both banks could not stop the light boat from passing through ten thousand mountains."
Eventually, the rain intensified, eventually becoming so heavy that the cat's cries could no longer be suppressed, flooding the entire alley. Reluctantly, the cat left its food at the entrance of the flooded alley. Standing there, it rubbed against the wall, trying to leave its mark.
Qin Huairu left, her face flushed, walking with a limp, as if she had tripped and bumped her ankle while leaving. Before leaving, she glared fiercely at Wang Shouren. Wang Shouren responded with a silly grin, and then, as if remembering something, her face turned even redder.
Wang Shouren stretched, let out a soft sigh, touched the slightly damp quilt, got up, and tidied it up. The weather outside wasn't suitable for drying clothes; they'd been sitting out for a few days anyway. He took a spare set of bedding from inside and put it on. Just as he was about to lie down again, he felt something was missing.
"Oh!" Wang Shouren clapped his hands, and one of his cigarettes was gone.
