Chapter 49 After the Meeting

His anger reached its peak, and Sha Zhu took a step forward.

However, it seemed he had gone too far. He felt a sudden dizziness and collapsed to the ground after taking his first step.

Now, the courtyard became even more lively.

"Quick, quick! Grandson! Grandson! What's wrong with you!" the deaf old lady cried out in a panic.

She glared at Wang Shouren: "It's all your fault! It's all your fault! If anything happens to my grandson, I'll make you pay with your life!"

"Grandma, it's alright." Wang Shouren said with a smile, walked over, and tapped Sha Zhu a few times.

He immediately sat up.

He looked around somewhat bewildered, as if trying to recall something.

The surrounding noise made him feel somewhat lost.

"Silly Zhuzi, silly Zhuzi..."

He heard the deaf old woman's voice and turned around to see her concerned eyes.

He jolted awake, as if remembering something, clenched his fist, and seemed about to say something.

"Silly Zhuzi, help me back, I'm tired..." The deaf old lady tapped the floor with her cane.

"Oh... okay." Sha Zhu didn't refuse.

However, Wang Shouren spoke up.

"Grandma, you have a long life ahead of you."

The old lady's body, which was being supported by Sha Zhu, suddenly trembled.

Only now did she understand why Wang Shouren hadn't reacted or shown any anger three years ago.

Yes, when Sha Zhu fainted this time, not a single person stood up, not even to lend a helping hand. If it were anyone else in the hospital, most would have readily helped him up and taken him to the hospital without a problem. But what happened now?

Even though he was the oldest person in the courtyard, everyone else would avoid him if possible.

The old lady understood that perhaps, in Wang Shouren's heart, Sha Zhu wasn't even considered a person.

He didn't need to do anything to Sha Zhu himself; Sha Zhu could ruin himself. He just needed to watch from the sidelines and give him a push now and then, and Sha Zhu would fall into that abyss. Today's events proved that Sha Zhu was unpopular in this courtyard.

Don't be fooled by how others talk to him and joke around with him; they just treat him as a joke.

Wang Shouren's statement, "There's still a long way to go," was even more infuriating.

Sha Zhu didn't understand, but the deaf old lady did: no one would like a guy who bullies or is jealous of others for no reason.

The deaf old lady understood even more clearly just how powerful Wang Shouren's push was.

She didn't say anything more and let Sha Zhu lead her to the backyard. She seemed to have aged a bit more.

"Alright, that's enough for today. I'm here to give you all a heads-up." Director Wang glanced around. "Don't spread everything around. What will it all become in the end? And you, Xu Damao, remember your self-criticism!"

"Director, I'm truly innocent! I just heard Sha Zhu say that." Xu Damao was very clever; he knew he couldn't pin this on himself. Who would want to associate with someone who spread rumors? A written apology was a minor matter; a ruined reputation would be truly disastrous.

Yes, Xu Damao had a bad reputation in the courtyard; people said he was incredibly selfish. But he wasn't completely heartless.

"Shut up! If you didn't know all this, do you think a simple self-criticism would solve everything? Don't believe everything you hear next time!" Director Wang glared fiercely at Xu Damao, effectively exonerating him. At most, it was just a matter of not paying attention to the veracity of the rumors. But who cares about the veracity of such things?

“Okay, okay… Director, I’ll go back and write it right away.” Xu Damao chuckled.

“And you, Yi Zhonghai, Liu Haizhong, Yan Bugui, the three of you, keep an eye on things when you’re managing the yard…” Director Wang was silent for a while, then sighed. How could she not know what was going on in this yard? This matter really couldn’t be blamed on the three old men: “Alright, that’s it. I came here to tell you that nothing of the sort happened. You can all go home now.”

The conference ended.

Everyone went home, but the discussion about Wang Shouren did not stop.

Third Uncle's House

"Hey, Dad, did you see that? He just touched him a few times, and Sha Zhu woke up. When did that kid learn medicine?" Yan Jiecheng asked mysteriously.

"Medical skills? That's not medical skills. Have you forgotten the previous martial arts competition?" The old man calmly picked up his teacup, took a sip, and spat twice.

"Alright, Dad, stop being so mysterious. You can't even spare a drop of tea, so what are you spitting out for?" Yan Jiefang teased from the side.

This kid is really interested in Wang Shouren's skills.

“What do you know? This is called passion.” Yan Bugui glanced at his son with dissatisfaction and continued, “I know about Wang Shouren now, about four years ago. His health wasn’t good back then. That kid probably thought he could practice on his own. He’s smart, so he went to the library to find something. I reckon he never expected to be able to practice to this level.”

"Hey Dad, do you think he'll teach me if I go to him?"

"Yes, I do. One of the older men even said he would teach me, but I didn't practice." The third older man glanced at his youngest son.

"Why? Why are you so amazing?"

"Ha, impressive? Impressive can put food on the table. You know that old lady, right? Her health has improved a lot in recent years, all thanks to training with that kid. But I've heard that practicing this kind of kung fu has side effects."

"What side effects?" Yan Jiecheng immediately pictured the physical disabilities and other side effects of heroes in novels, and his expression turned somewhat gloating. Sure enough, no one can become stronger without paying a price. However, Yan Bugui's next words made him lose his composure.

"You just need to eat more."

Yan Jiecheng: ...

Yan Jiefang: ...

"No, Dad, what kind of side effect is this!"

"What are you yelling about? What are you yelling about?" Yan Bugui took another sip of water. "How can it not count? Your father isn't sick or injured, why would I practice that stuff? Besides, I heard that you have to eat a lot of white flour buns to practice it. Where would I get the money to eat those things? If you don't care about the money, then you can practice it. Just follow Uncle Yi."

Yan Jiefang and Yan Jiecheng both fell silent.

Where do they get the money for white flour buns? You can eat that occasionally, but who can stand eating it every meal?

An old man's house.

An elderly man and woman coaxed Yi Xiaochuan to sleep, and then the two began to discuss the day's events.

"Tell me, tell me, this old lady, sigh..." an old man sighed.

"I don't know what she was thinking. Sha Zhu is honest, but he's just too stupid..." An older woman sighed as well.

Neither of them are ordinary people; they see this whole situation clearly.
