Chapter 13
Shen Li's villa is located near the airport in the city center, about a 40-minute drive from the dinner venue.
On the way back, she was so sleepy that her eyelids were drooping, but she didn't dare to actually fall asleep, so she chatted to pass the time.
"How is Aunt Luo doing now? I heard she started a company?"
"Yes, she started a housekeeping company and has now trained a general manager to be a hands-off boss, who often travels around with her sisters."
“That’s great. After working hard for most of your life, you should enjoy it. Health and happiness are the most important things,” Shen Li yawned and continued, “So she’s settled in City C? Take me to visit her after this movie is finished. It’s been so long since I’ve seen Aunt Luo…”
"good."
With no movement beside him, Luo Mingxiu glanced to the side and saw that Shen Li had fallen asleep with her head tilted to the side. He stopped the car and gently straightened her up. She hummed softly and turned back over, breathing evenly, sleeping soundly.
Luo Mingxiu smiled, took out his phone, turned it on silent, and secretly pressed the shutter button to take a picture of her using the dim light of the streetlights at night.
Upon arriving at the villa area, security guards at the outermost exit conducted a check, so Luo Mingxiu had to wake up Shen Li to verify her identity.
This area is inhabited by wealthy families, high-ranking officials, and celebrities. The property boasts top-notch security and privacy, and strict checks are mandatory for entry and exit.
Once inside, Chen Li took over driving because it involved several turns and was quite winding, and she was familiar with the road conditions.
The car drove into the underground garage of the detached villa. After getting out of the car, Luo Mingxiu's gaze fell on three other sports cars of different colors.
“Oh, I bought this for a drive when I was on vacation, but I haven’t driven it much since. It’s probably been driven by Cheng Qingqing more times than I have.” Shen Li walked towards the elevator.
"You can open whatever you like. I keep the keys in the cabinet in the study. When you come in later, I'll record your fingerprints and face. If you have business to do here during breaks from filming, or if you want to have fun, you can stay here. You don't need to book a hotel."
Stepping out of the elevator and arriving at the apartment door, Luo Mingxiu leaned against the wall, waiting for the door to open. One side of his face was hidden in shadow. "Why are you so good to me?" he asked.
Shen Li laughed: "I'm your older sister. What, am I being nice to you for the first time? Didn't I treat you well when we were kids?"
Luo Mingxiu lowered his eyes: "I don't need it."
"ah?"
"I don't need a car, and I don't have time to play."
The door opened, and Shen Li walked in: "Whatever you want, but we still need to set up access control. What if you go out and lock yourself out? I won't open the door for you."
Luo Mingxiu hummed in agreement, stepped forward to register his fingerprint and facial recognition, and after exiting, he saw that besides Shen Li and himself, Fang Wei was also on the interface.
He swiped his finger to the left, paused when the delete option appeared, and asked, "Should we delete that person's record?"
"Please delete it for me, it's useless now," Shen Li said.
With permission granted, Luo Ming swiped to delete, feeling a surge of exhilaration.
The next day, Shen Li got up early, dressed and went outside. She looked down from the railing. Luo Mingxiu seemed to be in the small restaurant. She went downstairs to find him and saw that he had just put down his bowl. Breakfast was prepared on the table.
A steaming bowl of dumpling soup with vegetable pancakes—the tomato dumpling soup alone is enough to whet your appetite.
"Did you make this?" Shen Li walked over and served herself a bowl.
"I saw there were ingredients in the refrigerator, so I made something simple."
"That must have been prepared by Cheng Qingqing. She didn't know how long I would be staying back to handle some business, and she was probably worried that I would eat something unhealthy, so she wanted me to make it myself."
"What time did you get up?" Shen Li took a sip of soup, feeling a warm sensation in her stomach.
"Six-thirty." Luo Mingxiu looked at her.
"You've worked hard, eat more," Shen Li said, taking a pancake. There were two left on the plate. "The rest are yours."
The vegetable pancakes were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, very crunchy and delicious. I didn't expect the pears to be so tasty; after finishing one, I kept staring at the rest on the plate.
"You eat it," Luo Mingxiu said, moving the plate closer to her. "These pancakes are small; I've already eaten two."
Shen Li smiled, then quickly rolled up two more pancakes and said, "I didn't expect you could cook. I always saw you helping out at Aunt Luo's place, but I've never seen you actually cook."
Luo Mingxiu: "It's just breakfast, nothing special. If you want something fancy for lunch, then you can have it."
Shen Li raised an eyebrow: "Oh, then I'll have to have a good taste when I get back, and see if you've learned Aunt Luo's cooking skills."
Tianshui Garden is far from here, so they set off without much delay after breakfast and arrived at nine o'clock in the morning.
Shen Li contacted Fang Wei on WeChat, and he said he had already gotten up and could come in as soon as he arrived.
So when she arrived, she entered the password to open the door, but the moment the door opened, she felt something was wrong.
A pair of women's shoes appeared in the entryway; they weren't hers. A woman walked over from the dark hallway, her hair slightly disheveled.
Shen Li's hand, gripping the doorknob, trembled uncontrollably.
"Sister Li," the woman called out, biting her lip.
Fang Wei did not get up. A woman in a nightgown came out to open the door, the meaning of which was self-evident.
After she returned to City B, the person who responded to her and contacted her was no longer Fang Wei, but the woman in front of her.
Shen Li even felt that the face looked familiar. After searching her memory, she finally remembered that it was the host at Fang Wei's company annual meeting last year, and he was one of his employees.
She just filed for divorce and already found someone new?
No... it's impossible for things to develop to this extent even at the fastest pace, unless, long ago...
The bedroom door turned, and Fang Wei came out shirtless. Shen Li couldn't believe that marital infidelity would happen to her.
She stared blankly ahead, speechless for a moment.
Behind him, Luo Mingxiu stepped forward like a gust of wind, knocking the man to the ground with a single punch. Before Fang Wei could react, he cried out in pain.
Luo Mingxiu's punches were brutal and realistic.
The woman screamed in fright and dared not step forward to stop him. She knelt down before Chen Li and said, "Sister Li, please stop hitting me. It's all my fault. President Fang is very sad because you want a divorce. He's been going to bars after get off work lately. Last night, he got drunk and called me by mistake, mistaking me for you. It was all wishful thinking on my part. I'm sorry."
Does she think she's stupid? This kind of thing doesn't have any prior signs. How could it have developed like this? Who drugged her? How disgusting!
Shen Li didn't cry, but the woman next to her cried incessantly, kowtowing and begging Fang Wei for mercy.
She suppressed the discomfort in her stomach and suddenly wanted to laugh, and in fact, she did. The sound echoed in the room, adding a touch of strangeness and desolation.
Luo Mingxiu stopped what he was doing, walked over, and covered her eyes to prevent her from seeing: "Sister, let's not have those things anymore, let's go."
He wanted to take her hand and leave.
Shen Li didn't move. Fang Wei was beaten to the ground and couldn't speak. She walked straight over to the drawer of the wardrobe in the room and packed up her valuables.
When he came out, he said to the person on the ground, "I don't want the rest. You can handle it as you see fit. I'll transfer the medical expenses to you. Tomorrow is Monday. Let's get a divorce."
Fang Wei, holding his injured right cheek, crawled to Shen Li's side: "There's really nothing between us. We've been together for so long and we're about to have a child. Why do we have to come to the point of divorce?"
"Now that things have come to this, what's the point of you still dragging this out? Don't you know your little lover can't stand it anymore? Use your phone to contact me and let me come over and catch you in the act." Shen Li tried her best to keep her tone calm, using coldness to hide her pain.
"Who told you to touch my things!" Fang Wei stood up and scolded the woman. After scolding her, he turned to Shen Li and cried.
"Lili, I admit I haven't been paying attention to your thoughts for a while, and I haven't been managing our relationship well, which has caused too many misunderstandings between us. Please give me another chance, okay? I can handle everything..."
"It's impossible." Shen Li said coldly.
Fang Wei swayed for a moment, then looked at Luo Mingxiu beside her, and then at her: "Have you ever asked yourself if you've been innocent these past few years?"
Luo Mingxiu mustered his courage and was about to step forward again.
Shen Li grabbed him and slapped Fang Wei hard across the face, tears streaming down her face.
"Don't hit him, hit me instead!" the woman cried. Fang Wei frowned, opening his mouth as if to curse, but the woman cried even louder.
"I will never agree to a divorce," Fang Wei roared.
The two started arguing again, accompanied by the woman's shrill voice. It was impossible to make out what they were arguing about; all that could be heard was a jumble of words.
Shen Li walked to the table, raised her hand and knocked over a cup, and the room fell silent.
"I will hire a lawyer and file for divorce." She left with those words as she stomped away in her high heels.
A farce.
It's completely over.
After coming down from the building, Shen Li looked up at the sky, and when she looked ahead again, her eyes were blurred with tears.
.
Inside the car, Luo Mingxiu's lips were pursed. Faced with the woman's sobbing beside him, he couldn't utter a word. His hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his heart aching.
He wasn't good at comforting people; when he tried to soothe her, his hand hovered in mid-air on her back, unable to go down.
Sunlight streamed through the car window, casting shadows on the ornaments hanging on the car. Luo Mingxiu leaned over, stretched out his hand, and gestured in the light, making the shape of a puppy, opening its mouth and bending its ears.
Shen Li laughed, her shoulders trembling. She looked up and said, "What's wrong? You're making me both laugh and cry."
Luo Mingxiu looked at her reddened eyes, and gently touched them with his fingertips to wipe away the tears on her eyelashes.
The car started, and after passing two intersections, Shen Li calmed down and said, "After all these years, you still only know the same old tricks."
When she was little, he would always use hand shadows to make her laugh when she was angry or sad.
He didn't know that he didn't laugh because the little animals he compared were so cute, but because she thought that no matter how sad she was, her little brother would be listless for a long time.
He kept staring at her longingly, but didn't dare to talk to her.
That's why she smiled, so as not to affect their relationship.
"This is the last time. Don't cry for that person again." Luo Mingxiu turned the steering wheel and looked ahead.
"Mm." Shen Li nodded.
